So Harry flew for 11 hours and then spoke to his father for 45 minutes ? Charles then bobbed to Sandringham by helicopter and Harry checked into a hotel. I mean wouldn't you think Harry would have gone to Sandringham with Charles maybe ?

I suspect Harry’s getting a tad worried about what will happen should his father be unable to bail him out/subsidise his lifestyle because I imagine William won’t be as indulgent

I read a comment about Diana that she had an almost Sicilian taste for revenge on people who had upset her. I'm getting the feeling that PW might be the same - piss him off and you know it.

Yes H won't get through the gates once KC has gone. All very sad.

There's an article in the Mail today about Meghan 'breaking cover'. She's getting loads of abuse, and readers are saying she paid the paps to photograph her. Surely that can't be true? It's more a case of the paps are stalking around and she can't leave the house without being targeted?

The days when 'paps' hung around celebrities' homes on the off chance of getting a snap of them driving through the gate are long gone. With the ubiquity of camera phones and social media, there's no money in that sort of thing anymore. Montecito is also more than an hour's drive from LA, so would involve a special trip away from the celebrity heartland.

Most of the photos of celebrities who just happen to be strolling down sipping their coffee the road have been 'arranged' to at least some degree.

Whether or not you like or care about the royals his dash across the ocean was extremely weird. No other family I have ever come across would behave like this. You would come with your wife and kids for a few days, see friends and extended family and see your dad as much as he has time for. You wouldn't come over on your own for a 45 minute visit then home again the next day. Just very very odd.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 08/02/2024 09:56

Wasn't the last time William tried to "build a bridge" after Philip's funeral? The talk in the garden with their father. When William asked Harry why he hadn't told him what he was feeling. And Harry rejected the overture. And Charles asked them to stop fighting and making his last years miserable.

And the reason we know this? Because Harry made it the opening passage of Spare.

Build bridges my arse.

I would have thought. Or, even if you come on your own, you have a few days catching up with friends. It's a long way to come, especially for someone with his openly expressed concern about the environment, otherwise.

boomingaround · 08/02/2024 10:07

@wildernesssw totally agree. He's spent the majority of his life in the UK so presumably has friends and family here who may wish to see him. I just can't make sense of why anyone would fly such a long way for a 45 minute meeting after an early stage cancer diagnosis. It's baffling.

That, and the joint walkabout at Windsor after the Queen had died.

I always took that as an olive branch from W&C.

And again, it ended up spun negatively against them in a book.

Viviennemary · 08/02/2024 10:15

I must say I haven't read Spare. An absolute disgrace that Harry revealed private conversations. No wonder William wants no more to do with him.

reclaimmyboobs · 08/02/2024 10:15

PinkTonic · 08/02/2024 09:18

Of course if you loved your father and found out he had cancer you would rush to see him

No, you might fly across the world for a chance to say goodbye, and ordinary people might fly to a parent who had no one else on hand to make sure everything was in place for their care. It isn’t normal to make a transatlantic round trip to see someone for 30 minutes, especially when that person has just begun immunosuppressive treatment and you are 100% confident that they have the best possible medical and aftercare in place and other family members close at hand to keep an eye on things. AND your visit will incite press speculation including that the person is sicker than they currently are. It was performative and highly dramatic.

The royal family aren’t normal, though. We can’t judge them by the normal rules of the game because their lives are fucking nuts, so the way they conduct themselves is fucking nuts.

crumblingschools · 08/02/2024 10:16

I thought Harry was close to both of Andrew’s daughters. I’m surprised he didn’t catch up with them, if they are in this country

SallyWD · 08/02/2024 10:18

They're really not like a normal family, are they?

Inkanta · 08/02/2024 10:21

So she went out did she - in her car.

By the way has anyone seen Kate since Christmas Day?

Laiste · 08/02/2024 10:21

Oh he (they) are just so bloody crass aren't they? They can't do anything with any grace or dignity.

And thick, really, to think announcing Harry Is On His Way is going to look anything other that exactly what it is. An Opportunity. It's so transparent. Did they really believe we'd all go ''ah bless Harry, he's such a good boy isn't he?''

🙄

You really must. Even if it's just for the 'dog bowl' incident 😂

goodbyestranger · 08/02/2024 10:27

Yes and was callous enough to smile.

mrsmingleton · 08/02/2024 10:34

Maybe she is happy in the Land of Nod when Harry is away - gets a bit of a break.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/02/2024 10:39

It's well known that attention seeking famous people will inform who they need to, to get papped getting into the car or wherever

Of course it is, and since this was about Meghan for a change people forget the pap agency (Spike, I think?) being on hand for her walk in the woods and boat boarding when in Canada

Ironicallly these were the very people who Harry sued for snatching pics of their country hideaway, but then IIRC he awas away when the Canadian images were taken

I sometimes wondered if he'd been told, or if it was presented to him as "Oops, horrible paps!!"

Kate has had signficant abdominal surgery? I’m surprised anyone is not aware.

Inkanta · 08/02/2024 10:41

Yes Meghan breaks cover from her hideout and is smiling .. callously.

Inkanta · 08/02/2024 10:52

Kate has had signficant abdominal surgery

Yes so we are told - she could have been hiding out too (like Meghan) .. since Christmas Day. No one knows if she’s dead or alive or if she will break cover. The UK media haven't got a photo of her yet.

NotTerfNorCis · 08/02/2024 10:53

Janetime · 08/02/2024 08:29

Well I think one person said she paid. You don’t pay for paps. You call their umbrella agency and say Megan is leaving at x time if you wish a photo.

in this instance they were likely hanging round though as they will know harry is on his way back So it’s likely she saw them and took the opp to go out and get photographed.

Yeah I think that's the case. Harry is in the news because of Charles, so it'd be logical for the paps to hang around Meghan. The Mail have proved that papers are happy to buy photos!

I'm not a fan of Meghan but I don't like the hate being stirred up against her either.

reclaimmyboobs · 08/02/2024 11:01

I pretend not to read the Mail for morality but it does get the best gossip so whatever; I enjoyed the caption on a pic in the Meghan story “Meghan kept one hand on the wheel while with the other she sipped coffee”. Yes it’s called driving, generally advised to keep a hand on the wheel. She was “all smiles” which is one of two modes you’re allowed to be in pap photos: all smiles, or in a sombre mood. No in-between or nuance.

Haha 😬. So does most of mn ;

What papers @Brumbies ?
Have I missed something again?
I'm always late to the party!!😭

A theory of mine that maybe he came across to sign the papers which remove him from the line of succession.

It's a long way to come for a half hour visit!

Was she "showing Harry what he was missing?
