So Harry flew for 11 hours and then spoke to his father for 45 minutes ? Charles then bobbed to Sandringham by helicopter and Harry checked into a hotel. I mean wouldn't you think Harry would have gone to Sandringham with Charles maybe ?

@Bookmark1111 because he owes his son.

WonderingWanda · 07/02/2024 17:42

I drove 4 hours to see a parent who had been in hospital I stayed for less than an hour before leaving them to rest.

None of us know what conversations have gone on behind the scenes.

@Bookmark1111 because he owes his son.

Any apology owed – and I'm not disputing there might've been one due – was pretty much cancelled out by Harry's tell-all book Spite. Sorry, I mean Spare. Two wrongs don't make a right, etc.

Charles may have asked Harry to come. None of us know if that's the case.

This is what the news said. They spoke on the phone. Chuck asked him to come and he flew over. Then he went back home to his family . People are desperate for it to be negative.

Where did the 'news' say that 'Chuck' wanted him to come?

" chuck" ?
Where does the steak come into it?

Mmm, I'll bet your parent hadn't slated your entire family on global media or by best selling tell all book though...

DrasticAction · 07/02/2024 18:01

Chuck?

@Bookmark1111 perhaps but whilst no one can ever be a perfect parent I think Charles, whilst I like him (and hope he survives longer to be king) is also clearly a naval gazing difficult character and Harry has had a rough time as the child to those parents.

Charles definitely owes it to Harry to do all he can to make it up to him.

I suppose Harry really does take after his father then if that’s the case.

The “news” said he had told his sons about his diagnosis on the telephone. I never saw it mentioned that Harry had been asked to come. Can you give us a link, please?

I haven’t heard or read that Charles requested his presence at all. Charles called up both his sons to inform them of his cancer, not requesting their presence, are you getting confused?

Vespanest · 07/02/2024 18:06

Harry is a 39 year old man , can’t stand the infantilisation of a married father of 2, Charles also seemed to have a coldish upbringing does he get a pass to.

Does he naval gaze because of his time at sea? 😆

I agree that Charles is likely a difficult man to live with and that Harry, and William, had difficult childhoods in some ways, although by no means all of that is due to Charles.

But Harry is a middle aged man with his own children now. How long does Charles 'owe him' for? Maybe Harry should just send him the bill, and get it over with?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 07/02/2024 18:10

And there comes a point - say, around age 40 - when you come to terms with it and realise that you can't keep blaming your parents all your life, you have to take responsibility for the person you are.

What about what Harry needs to do to make things up to his father? Charles might not have been the most present or empathetic father but the public slagging off of him, his wife, his other son and DIL by Harry has been disproportionately harsh.

GreekDogRescue · 07/02/2024 18:13

Bunker Harry is a horrible horrible man.
Not only the way he exploits his family but even worse the abuse he dishes out to his polo ponies 😱

Well said. I also think he has reached that point, based on the news reports saying he wasn't after an apology any longer and the fact he's flown over now. But he's naïve if he thinks his family will just roll over and forget too.

MaturingCheeseball · 07/02/2024 18:17

Dh is not interested in rf goings on, and in fact is rather inclined if pushed to feel sympathy for Harry.

BUT he said that the announcement by the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex that Harry was heading to London was insensitive and self-regarding - it gave the impression that Charles is on his last legs as well as making the story Harry’s Mercy Dash. He could easily have sneaked onto a flight and as for that motorcade in London…

It's quite amusing. PH loudly demands apology and nothing can happen until he gets it. RF ignores him. PH publishes an expose of family secrets. RF ignores him. PH then says no apology needed and he and the OH are 'minded' to accept an invitation to Sandringham for Christmas, implying that he's open to a reconciliation. RF ignores him. At what point does it occur to him that as far as they're concerned he's overstepped so many lines that he's wasting his time?

I have watched quite a bit of News in the last few days and read lots of items and nowhere have I seen that . Also googled and nothing so wondering where you saw/ read that ?
It seems highly unlikely that Charles would have said “ please fly 11,000 miles so that we can chat for half an hour face to face .

It just seems this unseemly rush over, making it all about Harry was totally unnecessary and he’s just gagging to get his feet back under the table.

how can they trust him, know he isn’t flying over so it looks like he’s in with them and help his brand or to get the dirt so they can speak about it in their next interview. Or Harry pretend, like he did the queen that he was there to make sure Charles had the right people round him

the family did the right thing. This was not an opportunity for Harry.

Totally agree. Not the time for Harry to be dashing over. I feel sure we will read something about his visit, either how magnanimous it was of Harry to go all that way just to see his father or how badly he was treated that he was only allowed a small piece of time to visit. I am more worried that Harry sat on a plane for all of those hours, surrounded by germs, and then saw his dad.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 07/02/2024 18:38

Who knows? None of our business.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/02/2024 18:40

Did he book with Travalyst?

I imagine you were being ironic, @IcedPurple, but just checked and saw that no accounts have been filed for Travalyst since June 2022, so I have to wonder if, after delivering a few headlines for Harry, it's moribund now

Anyway he's gone back, and as far as we know didn't follow Charles to Sandringham (even if he'd gone by helicopter someone would have seen another one land) so god knows why he bothered instead of just videocalling his dad
