Does anyone know where Prince William is?

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

Harry couldn’t do that though. He would need to close the county and have sniffy dogs and everything.

pilates · 11/04/2024 17:09

I think how people react when the chips are down shows great strength of character. William has definitely shown this.

Reminds me of this quote by the former mayor of DC.

People have criticised me because my security detail is larger than the president's. But you must ask yourself: are there more people who want to kill me than who want to kill the president? I can assure you there are.

I'm the one who said that and not taking it back.

Let's not try to rewrite history, I wrote this before Kate, who I've been defending non-stop during KateGate, announced her cancer diagnosis.

The word from tha Palace was that Kate had her surgery, is recovering but is doing well and will be back after Easter.

William was practically a no-show for weeks, In that time, we saw more of the King, who has cancer, than William.

And there's nothing wrong with saying that William wants a rich, privileged and quiet life. (the RF are one of, if not the richest and most privileged family in the country)

I don't know that for a fact but that's what a lot of people have been saying for years and clearly with good reason. The numbers don't lie. People who were far lower on the line of succession worked more. That Worshy nickname didn't come out of nowhere.
It took him almost 10 years after marriage to start a solo project.

William's closest friends are mostly aristocrats coming from rich and privileged families. Just stating a facts.

I do feel bad for him for what he's been going through these past couple of months but that doesn't mean he's now above criticism

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 11/04/2024 17:31

Yeah, but @Nono22972 OJ Simpson has died.

ArcaneWireless · 11/04/2024 17:37

Defending non stop?

Nope.

AliceOlive · 11/04/2024 17:43

Above criticism? FFS he has been nothing but a target.

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 11/04/2024 17:31

Yeah, but @Nono22972 OJ Simpson has died.

Maybe someone will come along to claim he died months ago but it’s just now being announced to cover up for something nefarious in the RF.

jeffgoldblum · 11/04/2024 18:29

By all accounts it appears that William was out and about paying visits, he just didn't publicise it !

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 11/04/2024 18:32

HRH Prince William is often out and about carrying out his duties.
NB: Most of his hard work is not published in the national press, media but just locally.

ArcaneWireless · 11/04/2024 18:50

Perhaps If Kate started patting at him with her milking claw they’d get more exposure.

Or if they gave him an aviation award.

ArcaneWireless · 11/04/2024 18:51

And if all else fails?

Photoshopped hair and a pigeon frock.

Sorted.

People talking about his work ethic is justified criticism

But yes, I think because W&K are more reserved and quiet, people think they don't go through anything but some journalists in the past did admit that some of the bad press he and Kate were getting in the early-mid 2010s is because he "wouldn't play the media game". William always kept the press at arm's length, it's been reported several times unlike Harry who was the one cozying up to journalists. Harry was just as lazy as William but he had better PR

People don't want to admit it but people talk about Harry but I feel like out of the 2 brothers, there's been a lot more spread propaganda about William than Harry and, of course, I can't speak for the entire country but I feel like it affected his public image a bit

-First, there was the still unproven affair
-Then the pegging rumour that started on a fan blog and became mainstream which generated a lot of homophobia online
-Then, the illegitimate child
-People being desperate for his marriage to end, which is very weird
-Now, crazy conspiracy theories about murder, domestic violence

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 11/04/2024 21:12

Yeah. And OJ.

ArcaneWireless · 11/04/2024 21:26

Those who choose to repeat rumours - in whatever context - are no better than those who chose to spread them in the first place.

ArcaneWireless · 11/04/2024 21:30

As For a dented image?

Only by those who ran with the rumours.

And I don’t care for the opinions of fools.

It only affects his public image for those who choose to believe the rumours, which is more a reflection on them than it is on William. Personally I think that the crazy heights now reached by the conspiracy theories totally undermines any other rumours as it seems the nonsense being spread is only becoming more far fetched

Nice to see a royal drinking something other than a kale smoothie. Very relatable.

I am glad you know what’s up. I got a little confused about which thread we were on just now.

AliceOlive · 12/04/2024 02:34

As for Harry, I know even those of us that don’t think much of his recent behaviour have worked to actively shut down the worst rumors and prevent them from being given a platform here on MN.

I feel really good about that and am glad I’m in good company.

IsoldeWagner · 12/04/2024 08:41

Those rumours are vile, @Nono22972 .
That William rose above them and continued with his commitments speaks to me of someone with dignity and integrity.
No, the paps don't always catch him at a homeless shelter, or taking his kids out or helping his Dad. Just because he fulfills commitments off camera, or Netflix don't make a programme about what he does, doesn't mean that the work doesn't happen.

IsoldeWagner · 12/04/2024 08:43

AliceOlive · 11/04/2024 17:44

It's the "ToxicBritishMedia" (sic) again!

IsoldeWagner · 12/04/2024 08:45

@Nono22972 of course William isn't above criticism. No-one is, and I haven't seen anyone claim that on here.
There is a difference between justified criticism and unfounded, vile rumours being repeated just to be nasty and besmirch a character.
