Would he be Henry IX? Henry the ninth?

He would need to amass many wives.

2Old2Tango · 05/02/2024 19:54

I've actually found myself feeling sorry for Charles. I've never been his biggest fan, especially after the Diana years, but this man was born to be King and he spent 70 years waiting to fulfil that role. Longest apprenticeship ever! No sooner had he finally got the job and he's been diagnosed with cancer and has to step back a bit. Since he became King I've liked him more. He seems less stuffy and is less formal than his late mother. I personally hope they've caught the cancer early and he recovers quickly.

Would he be Henry IX? Henry the ninth?

In theory, yes

But I think we're going to see William V and George VII, rather than Charlotte, Louis or Henry IX

Belindabelle · 05/02/2024 19:56

@IloveAslan If that is directed at me, I am so full of doom and gloom as you so eloquently put it, as that is my lived experience. Losing two grandfathers, my father and father in law to cancer in their 70’s.

I am genuinely happy that you and others have a different experience to draw on.

2Old2Tango · 05/02/2024 19:57

Charlingspont · 05/02/2024 19:52

Would he be Henry IX? Henry the ninth?

Not necessarily. The monarch can choose what name they wish to use and William (or Harry if there was some unforeseen disaster) could use one of their other names if they preferred.

CurrentHun · 05/02/2024 19:58

I really hope he’s OK. Nice that the BBCsays that princes are speaking to him and seeing him in person. Maybe they can all put all the infighting behind them and live and let live a bit as a family now. I’m sure there’s been many wrongs on all sides but ultimately things might have been brought into perspective by ill health.

Also I hope Kate is OK, poor thing.

Thunderbird7 · 05/02/2024 19:59

Oh gosh ☹️ that’s horrible hope he gets well soon

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/02/2024 19:59

I wouldn’t be surprised if all the stress over the Harry/Meghan business, especially coupled with the Queen dying, has brought it on.

I certainly know of two people who’d suffered extreme stress or grief shortly before developing cancer.

Don't tempt fate, would only take one helicopter crash then here come King Harold and Queen Rachel.

Isn't that what Meghan is supposed to have said to someone? I bet William and George have been travelling separately for some time already.

RememberingItAll · 05/02/2024 19:50

In what universe is this possible without the deaths of 2 adults and 3 children???

Bring it on? Really?

It was a lighthearted comment based on a pp comment. Chill the fuck out.

You’ll notice I also said I hope Charles recovers....in not 1 but 2 posts.

Now go and be offended by someone else BM. 🙄

Bring it on made me snort

PP, it was a joke. RememberingItAll isn't transporting the family, they'll be absolutely fineSmile

Stepping back for now from royal duties. Guess William and the others will have to step up. Treatment has been started today.

Whilst I wish him well it does irritate that his diagnosis was yesterday and his treatment started today. My DH had to wait 5 long, painful weeks

mrsmingleton · 05/02/2024 20:01

As usual the news programmes are going to town on all of this.

Yes - at one time it was thought that Charles would adopt the regnal name of George.

this is sad and I wish him a good recovery.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/02/2024 20:02

Those posters talking about H and M reigning ……why on earth would they want anything to do with the family and institution that they have spent the last 4 years criticising?

mids2019 · 05/02/2024 20:03

I think something isn't quite being told here

The monarchy have traditionally been right lipped about their health so an announcement of cancer is a little strange. I don't think making men aware of cancer fully covers this as it apparently isn't prostate cancer and the symptoms of cancer are linked to the type so if really conscious of awareness you would announce the type .

With abdominal surgery a metastases from a distant site may have been found or cancer of the bowel or bladder which are quite serious

Could the public be slowly wing prepared for a diagnosis of terminal illness so an abdication becomes possible or at least the potential of a regency?

The visits from relatives, the vague mention of the cancer type and the question about why mention this at all to my mind sets the scene for maybe a sorry few months.

I think Prince William will be very much becoming more King in all but name

OhmygodDont · 05/02/2024 20:03

I mean despite being off topic they only hated the institution when they didn’t get their half in half out. Before that they seemed to want to be a part of it still.

Didn’t Nostradamus predict this (and also predicted there will be King Harry)!

Nostradamus predictions, like horoscopes in newspapers, can usually be made to fit any situation.

But yes, I have seen that someone translated one of his quatrains like this.

Sorry to hear that, how is your DH now?

Cancer waiting times are woeful especially after the pandemic…

That said I also would not like to be in a queue for free NHS treatment behind wealthy people who could just as easily pay for it themselves and get out of the way of people who can’t!

mrsmingleton · 05/02/2024 20:04

@Mylovelygreendress it's all a load of nonsense and people being ghoulish and nasty while using a person's ill health to promote their own agenda.

Emotionalsupportviper · 05/02/2024 20:05

Mylovelygreendress · 05/02/2024 20:02

Those posters talking about H and M reigning ……why on earth would they want anything to do with the family and institution that they have spent the last 4 years criticising?

Oh, they'll want it alright1

They are greedy for power and for money.

Roussette · 05/02/2024 20:05

Bingo. I was waiting for this. It took quite a while.

OhmygodDont · 05/02/2024 20:05

The speculation on the king is still early yet high Risk cancer of a type. Easily found via the nhs website. Im not saying which type.

mrsmingleton · 05/02/2024 20:05

I think Nostradamus is as relevant as Paul the Octopus.
