Oh no, I’m so very sorry to hear this 😢. It must have come as such a shock. I hope he makes a full recovery soon.

If the BBC said that they're massively wrong and have forgotten the update.

They've even missed that the Queen is CoS.

It's Camilla, William, Anne and Edward since the amendments

Not according to the RF's own website. That says it's Camilla, William, Harry, Andrew and Beatrice.

I thought it was worse than it turned out to be when Mary Nightingale on ITV news was seemingly very emotional about it. They were also wearing black which made me think of a death announcement!

Yes that was really weird. She seemed to be crying. Is she close to Charles or something?

elprup · 05/02/2024 19:44

At 75 he's never going to be doing the job for that long

He could be doing it for 20-25 years - which is a really long time!

notthatthis · 05/02/2024 19:37

Wow why are you so angry. Hardly the end of the world.

Wishing the deaths of 3 children is vomit inducing frankly. Perhaps not the end of your world, but your lack of human empathy speaks volumes.

inks10 · 05/02/2024 19:44

Why wouldn't they say what type of cancer it is? Would it really make any difference? Surely better for them to be open and honest to avoid further speculation.

Maybe it was triggering for her in some way.

Oh come on, he’s over this way anyway for the envictous games so only making a short detour. He is a man of means so this isn’t a big deal to him. I also wonder if he wants to appear caring given the way most people think of him at the moment.

I thought it was Canada they were travelling to for the Invictus event ?

RememberingItAll · 05/02/2024 18:11

King Harry and Queen Meghan, can you imagine? Bring it on.

No thanks

What’s going to happen to George in 8 years 🧐

He turns 18 and could therefore also abdicate.

He cannot do this as a minor. So if William stepped down (which was the scenario in the post I was answering), George will be king at least until he is 18 - and he's 10 right now. He could of course carry on if so minded, but if not it's 8 years until he can quit.

Don't tempt fate, would only take one helicopter crash then here come King Harold and Queen Rachel.

Wonder how the DM and all the royalist Harry bashers would respond to that!

perhaps they got the wrong end of the stick, probably a coincidence

mrsmingleton · 05/02/2024 19:47

Just been watching the ITV news on delay and Catherine Mayer was on it , one of his biographers. You could hear the distress in her voice. I think part of it is that his coronation was so recent and that as she said we are accustomed to the longevity genes of his parents .

blackpanth · 05/02/2024 19:47

I hope he makes a full recovery

frostyfeet · 05/02/2024 19:47

blackpanth · 05/02/2024 19:45

No thanks

I’d love it. The whole thing is an expensive soap opera anyway, and the two of them have such main character energy

AInightingale · 05/02/2024 19:47

Poor man. Don't think it's inconceivable that we might see a Regency if he really struggles to regain full fitness. William is young and fit and a safe enough pair of hands, his father shouldn't feel forced to crucify himself out of a sense of duty.

MrsLeonFarrell · 05/02/2024 19:47

EdithWeston · 05/02/2024 19:39

Counsellors of State usually act in pairs (I think it is possible for the direct heir to go solo)

This is for the formal stuff, such as signing Acts of Parliament into law, opening and dissolving Parliament, kissing hands, Privy Council matters, certain diplomatic duties, signing off certain appointments and honours etc. Charles has indicated that he will still be doing these sorts of duties - it's just public facing duties he's suspended.
(Which to me is suggestive of chemotherapy that will seriously deplete his immune system, putting him at greater risk from covid)

Anyone can represent the monarch for visits and other formal occasions.

There have to be 2 of them and they have to be authorised by the monarch in writing.

If anyone remembers the State Opening of Parliament when the Queen was too ill to attend Charles and William were there as Counsellors of State (Camilla was there as Charles' wife she had no official need to be there). I remember there was quite a lot of explanation in the TV coverage about how the Queen had to officially appoint them and they had to both be there. It was a bit of a performance and IIRC they have to be authorised for each event.

Incidentally and in reply to another poster , I don't read anything sinister into Harry flying over soon, why wouldn't he when they are saying the king will be out of action for a few weeks. Not sure why Harry had to announce his visit but I assume that is so that the tabloids don't play Where's Wally and make it into a big thing whilst the king is sick.

Acatdance · 05/02/2024 19:48

It's hardly remarkable that Harry is flying over to see his dad.

OhmygodDont · 05/02/2024 19:48

I mean I wouldn’t call William young his in his 40’s.

frostyfeet · 05/02/2024 19:49

themessygarden · 05/02/2024 18:42

On the other hand, something like this can also add even more resentment about all the unnecessary stress caused, I expect Charles will be forgiving, but maybe the rest of the family won't feel the same..

What about his brother the disgusting Andrew ? Why not blame him instead ?

Charlieradioalphapapa · 05/02/2024 19:50

Poor KC. I hope whatever type he has, it’s not one with a poor outcome.

I hope Harry’s visit is due to him realising there needs to be an end to the estrangement and not because it’s far more serious than the announcement suggests .

Blimey, give the doctors a chance! My nan had cancer in her seventies and lived to 93. Bear in mind he'll have world class treatment too.

My late DM did also, and made a full recovery. Why do some people have to be so full of doom and gloom?

OhmygodDont · 05/02/2024 19:50

Imagine back in the old war days of taking over the world. A king or queen of pension age would be quite laughable as a show of power really. Just would have shown they had good close guards but hardly put fear into other nations. A young king in his 20’s maybe not a 70 or 40 year old.

good job it’s not the old days 😅

RememberingItAll · 05/02/2024 19:50

In what universe is this possible without the deaths of 2 adults and 3 children???

Bring it on? Really?

It was a lighthearted comment based on a pp comment. Chill the fuck out.

You’ll notice I also said I hope Charles recovers....in not 1 but 2 posts.

Now go and be offended by someone else BM. 🙄

King Henry not Harold

Would he be Henry IX? Henry the ninth?
