@YetMoreNewBeginnings this is what they said, that is all I said in response to pp saying no one had mentioned Beatrice.

noideamate · 05/02/2024 19:25

@BeachSideSurfShack assuming Catherine is well and recovering, then William can work. If Catherine was suddenly seriously ill then he would want to be by her side. But hopefully Catherine's recovery will be smooth.

OhmygodDont · 05/02/2024 19:26

William will do what he needs publicly and manage the paperwork from home at a guess. Kate has a good family, a good nanny and I’d guess even if not regularly currently they have a cook and cleaner / house keeper.

The children all attend school now so the house is pretty quiet 9-3pm regardless for Kate’s recovery.

Though let’s face it the queen was signing up new prime ministers and dealing with Brexit issues. Andrew being a slimy slug and Harry leaving the fold all during her final years / moments.

BlackLabradors · 05/02/2024 19:26

@Angrycat2768 i wonder if they need 4 to form a quorum since they wouldn’t wish to give any of them the actual authority a monarch has?

smilesy · 05/02/2024 19:27

Oh dear! Hopefully whatever cancer it is they have caught it early enough to treat it successfully 🤞🏻

All those talking about King Harry. He's pretty far from the throne now. Something would have to go spectacularly wrong to the 4 ahead of him (William, and the 3 kids) to put him inline. As well, he's no longer a working royal. Neither is Andrew, so the counsellors of state who will need to step in during the Kings absence will be Camilla, William, Anne and Edward.

Edited

Don't tempt fate, would only take one helicopter crash then here come King Harold and Queen Rachel.

noideamate · 05/02/2024 19:28

The news said Charles will still do the paperwork and meet with the Prime Minister. So William will presumably be covering the public appearances.

I think given his age, 75, we have to be realistic about the situation.

Don't be ridiculous. A relative was treated for prostate cancer and bladder cancer in quick succession in his late 70s, made a full recovery from both and remained in excellent health throughout. My 21 year old cousin wasn't so lucky. Type and staging is more important than age.

BlackLabradors · 05/02/2024 19:18

BBC said if needed William, Harry, Andrew and Beatrice are the people who would step up to cover.

What about Camilla ?

Angrycat2768 · 05/02/2024 19:23

Why would it require 4 people to do the job? Surely The Queen would step up, and maybe William. Even Charles's job as Head if State makes no material difference to anything.

I think it’s four so that they have cover if one or more also goes down sick etc and if there are two head of state issues which need taking care of at the same time - eg opening parliament / dealing with a domestic public tragedy / paying respects to a foreign head of state etc.

They don’t need all four at once - just helps that they are named to stop arguments about who should be doing what.

King Henry not Harold

FluffyFanny · 05/02/2024 19:32

Actually, cancer is often a less aggressive form in older people and advances slower because their cells are not dividing as rapidly.

JaceLancs · 05/02/2024 19:34

My Dad went in for prostate op and was found to have cancer of the bladder when he was in his 70s - it was successfully treated he then developed cancer of the colon in his mid 80s - lived to 95 and eventually went from other causes entirely

Wittow · 05/02/2024 19:34

I thought it was worse than it turned out to be when Mary Nightingale on ITV news was seemingly very emotional about it. They were also wearing black which made me think of a death announcement!

GuinnessBird · 05/02/2024 19:23

I wonder if they know more than they're letting on, particularly as Harry is flying over pretty much immediately.

Though this had occurred to me I imagine they won't welcome speculation, and if there's any further real news we'll doubtless be told in due course

Just like Kate really - except of course she's not in the top job

TerriPie · 05/02/2024 19:35

Lizzieregina · 05/02/2024 19:30

King Henry not Harold

I was making a subtle reference to Prince of Wales' nickname for Harry when they were still on speaking terms.

BMW6 · 05/02/2024 19:36

Why The Fuck are posters talking about "King Harry"?????

5 people need to die before that is a prospect. 3 of those are children.

WTF is wrong with you and why are you so badly educated?

Same with mine. The NHS move incredibly fast and effectively when you're in the system.

Stepping back for now from royal duties. Guess William and the others will have to step up. Treatment has been started today.

What others? Kate's signed off til Easter, Harry and Meghan have been banished from the kingdom, Andrew's in disgrace. That leaves erm: Anne and Edward - the royals are a bit thin on the ground these days.

Wow why are you so angry. Hardly the end of the world.

Oh come on, he’s over this way anyway for the envictous games so only making a short detour. He is a man of means so this isn’t a big deal to him. I also wonder if he wants to appear caring given the way most people think of him at the moment.

EdithWeston · 05/02/2024 19:39

Counsellors of State usually act in pairs (I think it is possible for the direct heir to go solo)

This is for the formal stuff, such as signing Acts of Parliament into law, opening and dissolving Parliament, kissing hands, Privy Council matters, certain diplomatic duties, signing off certain appointments and honours etc. Charles has indicated that he will still be doing these sorts of duties - it's just public facing duties he's suspended.
(Which to me is suggestive of chemotherapy that will seriously deplete his immune system, putting him at greater risk from covid)

Anyone can represent the monarch for visits and other formal occasions.

Wouldn't you get on a plane if your dad was suddenly diagnosed with cancer?

BMW6 · 05/02/2024 19:40

RememberingItAll · 05/02/2024 18:11

King Harry and Queen Meghan, can you imagine? Bring it on.

In what universe is this possible without the deaths of 2 adults and 3 children???

Bring it on? Really?

My MiL exactly the same.
