Indifference to PoW?

FaiIureToLunch · 28/01/2024 08:51

I find it strange that there’s no real interest or concern from the public about POW being in hospital. Nobody seems to be that bothered. If you compare it to the circus if Diana had been in the same situation….. I just find it odd. I always thought she was relatively popular because we’re constantly told she is but actually…. Tumbleweed.

I know it’s her own business etc but it just feels quite odd that somebody can disappear and there is no interest in why. I don’t really know or care what’s happened or why, but the silence is really intriguing. It reminds me of when the brexit referendum happened and I had no idea that there was such strong feeling about the EU…. I had no idea that there was such apathy about the PoW until now. It’s been a real eye opener for me.

I reckon the next generation or two, the monarchy will be gone.

@goodbyestranger . I am Scottish . I live in Scotland . I can assure you that neither I nor anyone else I know what to ditch the RF . When The Queen died , thousands of people lined the route when her coffin was transported. Thousands more were in Edinburgh for her arrival at St Giles . Thousands watched KC’s “ Scottish coronation”.

Another Scot, living in Scotland.

I would completely agree - there is no real movement to "ditch" the Royal Family here. It's the same noisy bubble that repeat this, similar to nationalists who clamour for Independence. There's no real appetite for it. They don't impact people's daily lives, but when it comes down to it - there is some deep affection there - as shown by the crowds who came out to see her coffin and also when Charles received the honours of Scotland.

The polls say otherwise Mylovelygreendress, and the vibe does too.

In your own mind maybe.

But you have several Scots here telling you what the feeling is locally to them.

The Nats have been touting a pro-independence poll the last week showing majority support for Independence - unfortunately for them it was an online poll run by a pro-independence group.

I'm very sure polls done by Republican groups would say what they wanted them to say.

StaunchMomma · 28/01/2024 15:13

I'd offer the same amount of empathy I'd give to any of you, I just don't think she's special in any way at all.

Any interest in/respect for the monarchy died with the Queen, for me.

I could not care less and I know very few people who do.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 15:16

Several Scots indeed MrsF who are very vocal MN supporters of the rf. As opposed to dozens and dozens of people living in my immediate vicinity who represent a wide range of professions and occupations.

(Whaddya mean Kate doesn't leak? KP is like a sieve and her mother has been thanked for gossip)

The fact that KP does not, in fact, leak like a sieve is rather proven by the fact that the Princess of Wales’ serious health issue was completely unknown to anyone other than her closest circle until after she’d been admitted to hospital and actually had surgery.

As for visitors - you can either believe that the Princess has had no visits from her husband, her mother, father, sister or brother at all, or they have not been photographed, or photographs have not been published. Which is more likely?

I think that possibly proves that KP ' leaks like a seive' with the permission of W &K. So if they don't want something to get out, it won't.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 15:20

If you look at polls done by independent organisations, you’ll see just how stark the divide is between the old and the young. The days of the rf are numbered, if only because of the demographics. The rf won’t be able to change that anytime soon, indeed they’re doing an excellent job currently of alienating the young even more.

Serenster · 28/01/2024 15:27

The days of the rf are numbered, if only because of the demographics.

Since they started doing polls in the 1990s, the royal family had always had more support among older people than younger people. Amazingly though, young people age into older people, and often their views on many topics change as they do. That’s how demographics work. And census reports show the population of England and Wales has continued to age since 2011. The number of people aged 65 years and over increased from 9.2 million in 2011 to over 11 million in 2021 and the proportion of people aged 65 years and over rose from 16.4% to 18.6%

Mischance · 28/01/2024 15:29

We know why - she has had an operation. What more do any of us need to know?

thepressoutside · 28/01/2024 15:32

I think it's true, if it were Meghan there would be no less than 15 unnecessary articles PER DAY.

Also I think some reporters went over the top and turned people off with the "World is ending the world got a little dimmer". It was embarrassing to be frank

I don't know that the monarchy will end in one or 2 generation ls, but there is definitely a generational divide, and it's most ardent supporters won't be around in the next generation or 2

And very well it seems!! 😂

I saw a report which says he has been there daily but is going via a private entrance not the front door. He agreed with the press after the initial coverage that they'd give him privacy.

Usually they go via the front door for the benefit of the press but there's clearly other entrances that other patients and staff use.

Just because he's not arriving with a fanfare doesn't mean he's not going or not taking the children.

There's no way her parents won't have been visiting regularly too but we haven't seen them either.

I read that too. That he has visited everyday.

I read somewhere the surgery didn't go as planned. Further complications. Could be something very serious. I'm glad she's not on the front of every tabloid. Wishing her well x

Source??

A total stranger is in hospital. Why ought we to be interested?

I’m not particularly against having a monarchy but this

Why am I being asked to care about this exactly

Who exactly is asking you to care? By no constantly issuing updates they are doing exactly the opposite.

This thread asking why no one cares

Bar that no one

stillavid · 28/01/2024 15:40

I think people are quite interested and hope she is doing well. I had a minor procedure at a private hospital on Monday, both the consultant and nurse were wondering how she was as both agreed it was a long stay and therefore quite serious.

I hope it does remain private.

I think most older people -even middle age one are less enamoured and more if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality.

Plus I think many people want to feel involved in national events - so even people not keen on royals watched coronation - they want to be part of something even if not that keen on RF.

I think if they vaguely do good, keep their heads down and don't make political waves they will last next 2 generations and possibly longer.

With POW I think there a strong lead from palace it's serious and private and people are following that lead.

ALonelyPerson · 28/01/2024 16:01

Its obvious what's happened. Kate Middleton went into hospital and will come out as Kevin Middleton.

mitogoshi · 28/01/2024 16:03

Medical privacy. I suspect that national newspapers have agreed to not publish, maybe in return for a press release once she is discharged. She's obviously had major complicated surgery

I agree with this. The silly ' pray for Kate and Charles' nonsense embarrassed us on the world stage. Not to mention the whole rubbish about William juggling the kids snd work.

Ap24 · 28/01/2024 16:29

I saw this on treading and thought it about prisoners of war.

I've seen plenty of speculation on here, I wouldn't have known she was in hospital if it wasn't for all the threads about it a week or so ago. For the rest of us who don't follow the gossip what else is there to say about it?

RokaandRoll · 28/01/2024 16:41

I don't think people are talking about it because it would be unseemly to gossip about it when she's specifically asked for privacy - not because nobody cares. I'm not a royalist but I care slightly just because she's a human being.

Diana leaked to the press

Yes this. I liked Diana but she used to play with the press, Catherine doesn’t. Let her have her privacy, we’re not all fame wh*res posting selfies while attached to IVs and wearing a sad face.
