Indifference to PoW?

I find it strange that there’s no real interest or concern from the public about POW being in hospital. Nobody seems to be that bothered. If you compare it to the circus if Diana had been in the same situation….. I just find it odd. I always thought she was relatively popular because we’re constantly told she is but actually…. Tumbleweed.

I know it’s her own business etc but it just feels quite odd that somebody can disappear and there is no interest in why. I don’t really know or care what’s happened or why, but the silence is really intriguing. It reminds me of when the brexit referendum happened and I had no idea that there was such strong feeling about the EU…. I had no idea that there was such apathy about the PoW until now. It’s been a real eye opener for me.

I reckon the next generation or two, the monarchy will be gone.

With Diana we weren’t living in a world of 24/7 news. If something happens today we will hear via the internet rather than the tv news.

I think there's some serious control being exerted over the media to enforce that she has privacy after what sounds like major surgery. Not an unreasonable request imo.

I read in an article the other day that the press have not been allowed to stand outside the hospital other than the first day when they photographed William visiting. Presumably the police have been moving them on.

I wonder if the same has been done with any members of the public standing around - and if flowers etc have either been refused or swiftly removed. I'd expect the hospital would want anything like that removed quickly, piles of rotting flowers, teddies and God knows what else don't exactly give the quiet and discreet vibe they're presumably going for.

I know what you mean. I actually feel quite bad for KM that her husband doesn't bother visiting and hasn't taken the kids in either. I saw Charles went to see her when he was admitted and his wife obviously cares enough or is dutiful enough to visit him. It's not nice, nor are the stories implying rifts and downright nastiness like the Yahoo one today.

How do you know PW hasn’t bothered visiting @Alltheprettyseahorses ? You don't, and you won't either. That is the point of privacy. For all we know it has been a revolving door of PW in the morning, parents at lunchtime and kids after school. Or no one at all. We don’t know, and we shouldn't need to know. None of our business.

How do we know they haven’t visited?

Because they haven’t been seen going in the front door in front of cameras?

I’m more interested to know why POW needs a 14 day stay in hospital for abdominal surgery, when most people are shunted out within a day or two.

My mother has had two major abdominal surgeries within 2 weeks of each other, having been sent home 24 hours after the first in excruciating pain after the first. The main concern after the first surgery was to get her out as they “needed the bed”.

I’m sure POW will be just fine, and can recuperate comfortably in her Grace and favour home, without worrying whether she can turn up the heating or not.

Of course she’s had visitors. Don’t be so ridiculous.

She hasn't disappeared, everyone knows where she is. Do you expect daily bulletins or something?

I would say there's been loads of interest and speculation. It has only died down because there's been no new information.

Announcement made she is in hospital for surgery. Not cancer won't be available for royal duties until after Easter.

@Witchbitch20 I had abdominal surgery (on the NHS) last year and was told I'd be in for 10-14 days afterwards. I had a surgical drain for a week, for a start!

I was off work for 4 months afterwards.

I bet she's rather glad that people haven't tried to hold a vigil outside the hospital for her with candles and communal singing.

There was a day or two of furious speculation about her condition and then because no further info has come out there's nothing more to say. They very successfully cut off the oxygen supply and fair play to them.

I'm sure she has plenty of visitors if she wants them, just because they aren't photographed doesn't mean they aren't there.

Or maybe she doesn't want visitors, if she's getting used to a stoma or something she may just prefer to be left in peace and stick to facetime. My dad had many abdominal surgeries with similar recovery time over the years and hated having visitors, some people prefer to be alone when sick.

Catherine has played the media game extremely well since joining the RF. She and William give the media a limited amount of exposure to them and the kids and are left well alone as a courtesy for this. She doesn't give anything of herself away, and she is a bit of an enigma in many ways. I salute her for it - she may be the most photographed woman in the country but we actually know very little about her. Hence situations like this where she's largely left alone.

Unless William teleports in or there are secret tunnels under the hospital where he can sneak in unseen, he hasn't been since his initial visit where he went in the back entrance. It's not a secret that he isn't going. At the very least, a little logic would tell you if he was visiting frequently the press releases would be about how devoted he is.

Camilla has been photographed 3 times visiting Charles in the same hospital. So the press is definitely there and William has not been seen. Unless camilla is taking the paps along on her visits which i would expect her to do.

I’m assuming the first visit was photographed and allowed for media purposes but they have removed the photographers from around the hospital now.

There was huge speculation when the news was first announced but luckily that has died down. Assume there will be huge speculation again on the day she leaves hospital

If William is visiting with the children there is probably an agreement with the press to not show them visiting, it’s not like when they visit the birth of a new sibling

I am surprised as well that the usual royalists haven't left flowers or cards outside the hospital like they would have had it been Diana.

It’s a working hospital on a busy road. If any have been left, I imagine they would be swiftly gathered up. And, in any event:

There has also been a lot of posts on X from users asking how they can send a card with their best wishes, and the Prince and Princess of Wales’ postal address (which is at Clarence House) being circulated. A search will quickly show you that.

Top Tip: just because something is not shown in a picture in the press does not mean it hasn’t happened.

Alltheprettyseahorses PW was seen visiting at least twice in the papers! They cant show him every day !He was said to go in and out through the back entrance for minimal exposure I think

Ever heard of private entrances and cars with blacked out windows? He was seen driving himself the first time so that the press could get their photo, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t managed to get in quietly since then. Do you not think that Special Protection may possibly have some experience in this sort of thing? I’m sure they are perfectly capable of managing discreet visits. There are some very vivid and salacious imaginings on here

And as for there being “no interest”, I think this is at least the fourth thread on here alone

The fact that KP does not, in fact, leak like a sieve is rather proven by the fact that the Princess of Wales’ serious health issue was completely unknown to anyone other than her closest circle until after she’d been admitted to hospital and actually had surgery.

As for visitors - you can either believe that the Princess has had no visits from her husband, her mother, father, sister or brother at all, or they have not been photographed, or photographs have not been published. Which is more likely?

She could be out of hospital for all we know. The projection in that press release might have been a worse case scenario or a bit of misdirection to ensure privacy. Alternatively (unless you have insider information from those at the hospital which would be a sad reflection on their attitude towards patient confidentiality) he could have been visiting in unmarked vehicles to avoid the press interest that came from that early visit. Combined with photographers probably being moved on at this stage, we’re hardly likely to see any evidence he’s been. Do you honestly think her kids, siblings or parents haven’t been to see her? There would be interest in those images (if they existed), but there’s been nothing. People may have been leaving flowers but they’ve likely been cleaned up fairly quickly to avoid encouraging others and creating a mawkish display.

I agree that the Wales’ have played a good game with the press and understood there’s a bit of quid pro quo required if you want privacy when it really counts. The lack of reporting and speculation here after the initial natural flurry is evidence of this.

Why would I care? I don't know her.

William hasn't been at the entrance and time pre agreed for Camilla to be photographed. She's shown up in her "royal" clothes for the visits - it's work and a cheerful queen turning up looking unworried reassures the public about the king and continues to shore up the now positive public view of their marriage.

William and Kate have different concerns and if she has wanted him to visit then I'm sure he has.
