Indifference to PoW?

I find it strange that there’s no real interest or concern from the public about POW being in hospital. Nobody seems to be that bothered. If you compare it to the circus if Diana had been in the same situation….. I just find it odd. I always thought she was relatively popular because we’re constantly told she is but actually…. Tumbleweed.

I know it’s her own business etc but it just feels quite odd that somebody can disappear and there is no interest in why. I don’t really know or care what’s happened or why, but the silence is really intriguing. It reminds me of when the brexit referendum happened and I had no idea that there was such strong feeling about the EU…. I had no idea that there was such apathy about the PoW until now. It’s been a real eye opener for me.

I reckon the next generation or two, the monarchy will be gone.

I read somewhere the surgery didn't go as planned. Further complications. Could be something very serious. I'm glad she's not on the front of every tabloid. Wishing her well x

I've heard she's had a head amputation. Very serious. They've transplanted The Hair onto her shoulders in the hopes no one will notice.

Or perhaps no one knows anything and that's the way it should be as it's what she wants.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 28/01/2024 12:03

If there were other members of the RF asking for a 'private' visit to somewhere and then tipping off the press that they were going to be there to as to get coverage, I'm sure you can tell us who they are. This was a well known tactic during the war of the Waleses to get her sympathy and press coverage.

madeinmanc · 28/01/2024 12:04

Loads of people care but she's always been so private and that is being respected (for once!).

I am surprised as well that the usual royalists haven't left flowers or cards outside the hospital like they would have had it been Diana.

She's had surgery, she isn't dead.
If the usual royalists have been turning up with flowers, no doubt the staff have been bringing them inside very quickly to avoid providing a photo opp for the paparazzi.

2024andsobegins · 28/01/2024 12:13

I expect she has been home for days - the 10-14 days will be a screen to cover any unexpected complications

Just like all the other members of the RF.

No, the relationship Diana had with the public and with the Press was unique at the time, and remains so now.

Both William and Harry have been much more reluctant to engage in many ways. William more pragmatically (& therefore more successfully), Harry much more emotionally (& less successfully).

Both as a result of Diana's relationship with the Press.

tara66 · 28/01/2024 12:34

What more can be said at the moment that isn't a repeat? It is not known what the medical problem is and she has asked for privacy. However there are loads of clips on FB of various media channels rehashing the situation.

It seems that however belatedly that they've learned what their mother never did - that you can't switch press attention on and off to suit and it's a two edged weapon that can turn on you.

No I’m not taking about scummy headlines at all. The world of far better off without that obviously, just the general lack of …. Interest.

for me the silence is the most interesting part.

A total stranger is in hospital. Why ought we to be interested?

Mumsnut · 28/01/2024 13:04

The press have behaved well, I think

MrsLeonFarrell · 28/01/2024 13:42

I read that she has had her feet removed and extra hands fitted so she can shake more hands on a walkabout.

I read it somewhere so it must be true. The Mail even did a mock up of her new look.

Seriously though why do people assume that things aren't true unless they are in the paper whilst simultaneously stating they don't believe anything from the tabloids?

I'm delighted that they are able to negotiate this season of their lives in privacy.

I’m more interested to know why POW needs a 14 day stay in hospital for abdominal surgery, when most people are shunted out within a day or two.

My mother has had two major abdominal surgeries within 2 weeks of each other, having been sent home 24 hours after the first in excruciating pain after the first. The main concern after the first surgery was to get her out as they “needed the bed”.

I’m sure POW will be just fine, and can recuperate comfortably in her Grace and favour home, without worrying whether she can turn up the heating or not.

Yep to all of that. Now let's get rid of this bloody circus once and for all.

Mylovelygreendress · 28/01/2024 13:47

@FaiIureToLunch do you not read columnists ? Have you seen the front pages of magazines such as Hello? ( caught a glimpse of several magazines as I waited for a checkout in the supermarket yesterday ) The RF board on MN ? There has been endless speculation. Even at the Foodbank where I volunteer I heard a group of people talking about it as they had a cup of tea .
I don’t know any more than the next person however I assume there has been an agreement with the media to not report meantime .
Surely we all want her to recover and be home with her DH and DC ?

Viviennemary · 28/01/2024 14:07

I don 't know her. I assume it isn't life threatening so why be concerned about a stranger. Fergie's situation is more worrying.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 14:15

Mylovelygreendress I've been out and about a lot recently: in Glasgow last week, London last weekend, flying back to Scotland after a long wait at Heathrow on Sunday - where there were thousands of people in T5 departures with not much to do except chat - and busy locally since I finally made it home on Wednesday. I can honestly say that I've overheard nobody at all talking about Kate either in Glasgow or London or on my much delayed journey, and no-one I've had conversations with at home since has mentioned Kate either. But then the Scots are mercifully much saner than the rest of the UK and want to ditch the rf asap. I can honestly say that on the occasions that the subject of the rf has cropped up prior to the news of the hospital admission, the unanimous opinion in my part of Scotland at least is that they're on borrowed time. Andrew's nickname locally is the Loch Ness nonster (or possibly nonceter - I haven't seen it written down, only referred to in speech so apologies for any wrong sp :)).

DancingFerret · 28/01/2024 14:38

With the advent of social media, online newsfeeds, and the constant "news" blasted across the pond from California, it seems the royal family and decorum no longer appear in the same sentence. I'm actually pleased at the lack of information about the PoW's condition; while she is a public figure, when it comes to her health, she has as much right to privacy as any one of us.

I'm also hoping the King remembers his position and doesn't become the poster boy for prostate problems in older men. He's chosen to disclose why he's in hospital and that's all we need to know. TMI is never a good thing for high-profile individuals.

Mylovelygreendress · 28/01/2024 14:40

@goodbyestranger . I am Scottish . I live in Scotland . I can assure you that neither I nor anyone else I know what to ditch the RF . When The Queen died , thousands of people lined the route when her coffin was transported. Thousands more were in Edinburgh for her arrival at St Giles . Thousands watched KC’s “ Scottish coronation”.

I'm Scottish too and totally agree @Mylovelygreendress

The polls say otherwise Mylovelygreendress, and the vibe does too.

CurlewKate · 28/01/2024 14:48

"The DM are currently dragging Prince Albert through the mud to keep themselves busy."

What are they dragging him by?

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 14:49

They'll always manage a few thousand at any staged event. No-one who wants to ditch this morally bankrupt family will turn up to pay 'respects'. Far more of the Scottish population did not turn up than did.

Maybe the vibe where you are but not in my neck of the woods !

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 14:53

It's certainly the overwhelming sentiment in my part of Scotland Mylovelygreendress and cuts right across all professions and occupations.

If the best you can do is say that a fraction of the local population between Balmoral and Edinburgh pitched up to see a car with a coffin possibly containing QE2 then you might need to up your evidential offering a bit.

goodbyestranger · 28/01/2024 14:54

I see that you're conceding the poll point in what I said. Mind you, pretty hard not to :)

What are they dragging him by?

Hopefully not his prostate.
