Meghan, Duchess of Sussex spotted out and about, part 3

Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

I'm not saying it is second rate but I am saying that it is not Grauman's and you would therefore dress in a more suitable way. Maybe you need to read the whole thread.

Take a look at photos of the style normally seen at Grauman's and compare to what the Duchess of Sussex wore to the premiere.

Then give your head a wobble.

AliceOlive · 26/01/2024 19:48

I understood about the venue. You def wouldn’t wear a skirt like that to my local theater - where they had an outbreak of bedbugs or lice or something.

I just like the skirt and thought it all looked good. And I thought that’s wheat this thread was about. The clothes.

thepressoutside · 26/01/2024 19:49

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 19:45

Gee whizz that's exactly what I said. To correct you though I didn't say it was for different countries but different venues. I would say the same thing if it was some poky little cinema in Wigan. Not the place for extravagant clothing LA premiere style.

I am saying it is not your typical Hollywood or London premiere location.

That's what you said.

The movie theatre venue that the premiere was at is apparently the largest in the country.

You are suggesting that the venue is not good enough

If you have an issue report it but please do get the words right.

What I actually said : it was at one time the largest building in the country NOT that it is the largest movie theatre venue in the country.

It was also the first building to have air conditioning in Jamaica.

thepressoutside · 26/01/2024 19:53

unbelieveable22 · 26/01/2024 19:47

Happens all the time. Those undertones are there regularly. Those doing the baiting know what they are doing and don't care. Best ignored most of the time. Watching the frenzy as they try to outdo each other can be amusing in a pathetic sense at times. Then you get the name changes and the cycle starts again.

Agreed.

I just find it rather gross and insulting to continuously insinuate that people attending the premiere are "too overdone" and the subject and venue are unworthy of the "Hollywood treatment" because you know.... They are the standard
🙄

AliceOlive · 26/01/2024 19:53

@thepressoutside so because it’s the largest in Jamaica it’s comparable to Graumans and you’d expect people to be dressed as they are in the link attached by @mathanxiety

I am just trying to understand the argument here. I like her ensemble but understand that some think she was overdressed for various reasons.

Your last two sentences are what some people are saying.

wildernesssw · 26/01/2024 19:55

Different cultures have different dress codes. That doesn't make one 'better' than the other. It is no insult to Jamaica to say that there is a different dress code to Hollywood.

"Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread"

As soon as I saw that in the title of a thread about Meghan I thought yeah right 😂

And in true miserable Mumsnet housewife fashion, the comments don't disappoint 😂

AliceOlive · 26/01/2024 19:55

What a tempest in a teapot. My home state doesn’t have a venue that matches up with anything in LA. That’s not a dig on Jamaica. It’s not LA and surely no one there would want it to be.

wildernesssw · 26/01/2024 19:57

Exactly! LA is hardly the ideal!

I quoted your post from

mrsmingleton · Today 18:59

So my quote and your words are 100% right about the Hollywood and London locations thanks vey much.

(I didn't quote your other words about it being the largest venue and air conditioning, so you have confused yourself there).

If as producers chose that venue as where they wanted to have the premiere for their film, in the capital of the country, I think it's quite rude to have a go at the infrastructure and "standards" as a way to criticise Harry and Meghan. As other posters have noted

crossculturalwedding24234 · 26/01/2024 19:58

I had no idea that the top and skirt were separate! Makees sense was wondering why it was so odd.
Could've done with something more colourful, bit drab for an event like this.

I do like her from her Tig days, shame she hasn't restarted the blog

What is wrong with saying that? It is a fact the same as the Troxy in Wigan is not a typical premiere location. So what?

The comments that were added to my post were by locals commenting on the venue for that specific event on the FB coverage of it.

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 20:07

Was it a good choice venue ? Yes imo as it is in Kingston. Is it like Graumans? No. Did Meghan wear a suitable outfit ? You and some others - Yes. Me and some others - No. That is how it goes.

There's no need for me to report it, we can have a grown up discussion. You introduced it, so you don't need to use the suggestion of reporting as a way to shut down the conversation really

Yep… surprise not
The Sussexes detractors descend like vultures on any thread linked to Meghan.
So many ridiculous comments made in this thread.

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 20:09

Nothing was twisted or quoted incorrect mrsmingleton. Your words are there for everyone to see.

However stating that I am to give that false impression is not in the spirit

Ah, and I thought the endless dedicated Endgame threads would have been enough. Quite sad really

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 20:13

Yes you did misquote. I'm not going to say it all again what I said and what you said but you did. Perhaps you need to reread the posts again. It's all far too boring for others though so as I said report me for saying the venue was once the biggest building in Jamaica or not. Just move on.

Lampzade · 26/01/2024 19:38

Totally agree. I thought it was just me who felt uncomfortable with some of the comments.
Some posters need to be really careful about the way they are coming across.

Ditto. I feel very uncomfortable comparisons with high end premieres in Hollywood compared to Jamaica with 'grubby floors'. WTAF am I reading, and sensing here

I’m not sure they are separate. Someone posted a photo of the back and it looks like the same material to me and possibly even attached.

I like the all black look. Love the casual appearance of the top against the glamorous look of the skirt. It’s simple and elegant but all kind of funky at the same time. The earrings are perfect.

The skirt is the star.

I also wondered about her choice to have her hair styled this way. My hair frizzes in even slight humidity so I’d love to wear it like that, but don’t know if I could ever pull that off but I love it on Meghan and think she looks great.

If talk of grubby floors offend you’d not be comfortable at most movie theaters in america where all the floors are grubby and our mothers told us so repeatedly before we went to them. I think it’s a bit “white savior” to keep making the implications you are making.
