The royal family

Why does the interview with H&M cause more anger and upset than the interview with Prince Andrew?

To preface - Im not a fan of Harry. Meghan I can give or take i think she mostly a victim to a husband who perhaps didn’t paint a full picture of what royal life is like and with her being American that way an easy thing to do.

Yes the Harry and Meghan interview contained porkie pies (about ‘getting married properly’, meh so what) and pretty shocking claims about racism and was full of total misunderstandings of royal protocol - such as going to HR for mental health help and then being confused when they point out you aren’t an employer. But I do feel it was their truth as to what they believe happened. I believe their behaviour is absolutely entitled and grotesque (Harry moaning about daddy cutting him off, mate your a 40yo millionaire read the room) but their anger stems from feeling genuinely wronged by people they love.

The Prince Andrew interview - he told great big fat barefaced lies that a 5yo would make up (“Oh well that can’t be true because I Erm…don’t sweat?”). All to cover up the fact he had sex with trafficked teenagers. He lied about his dodgy friendships, about medical conditions, about meeting women whose silence he later paid for. It’s absolutely outrageous that this interview as barely ever spoken about, he’s a TERRIBLE liar and I like H&M it’s not his truth it’s just a great big stonking fat lie from a nasty little pervert with an enormous sense of entitlement who has been treated pretty well and protected by mummy

Why do people get angrier about the interview if a (admittedly a bit of a tone deaf and stonking rich) couple who were actually just a bit sick of being harassed by the press and having their baby’s looks critiqued, than they do about an actual sex offender lying in his?

Yes, there are (many?) people who are republican as a principle, but see the RF as a symptom of an unfair system and don't blame them personally and individually, and then there are those who seem to have a visceral hatred for them as individuals and justify it as being republican.

They're the ones using that hyperbolic language.

Yes, and blaming Kate for the appalling state of the NHS! Instead of asking why so many people have voted for a government committed to tax cuts for the wealthy rather than decent public services.

Tax cuts for the wealthy? We currently have the highest tax burden on record. Interestingly Rachel Reeves has raised the possibility of cutting the 45p tax rate when they take office.

mixed race Meghan
That's a bit racist

Being sarcastic obviously 🙄

I agree that, in certain circles, there’s an element of racism involved but I also think the hypocrisy of fleeing the UK for a low key life whilst taking every opportunity to self promote has alienated many former fans. for me it was the moment in their Netflix “documentary” where she emphasises that she just calls him Hazzer - utterly cringe. All part of their insistence that they are relatable- so deluded. And the horror of Harry’s book 😫

Andrew is detestable but overtly detestable and would never consider himself a man of the people. And he has become a bit part in the royal show compared to the profile of Harry and Megan.

I’m always more wary of those who do great harm believing they are worthy altruistic individuals. I’m not a massive royalist but also not a fan of public shaming your own family whilst insisting that there’s a happy reconciliation ahead.

There’s a lot of rubbish and distraction on this thread.

The point that matters is that Andrew was protected and continues to be protected by the ‘royal’ family . Not only is he protected from even answering the questions the police have ( btw he swore on the BBC interview to help in any way ) , he is allowed to parade, often in ‘honourable ‘ regalia ‘. Elizabeth made sure he was right beside her and photographed on several occasions.Charles and William are continuing to do the same .We saw this again only days ago .

The Windsors DGAF about what he did
And they DGAF about what we think

Oh but they jump to act when their precious facade is criticised.
THAT is the difference OP
