I’m anti-monarchy for reasons which are regularly debated on Mumsnet and which I won’t bore everyone with now.
I am on this board because I’m also an advocate for women’s rights which is why I’ve been interested in the events of the last few weeks wrt Kate.
I have a problem with the way non-hereditary female royals are treated within the British royal setup, and with how many have had mental health issues, maybe eating disorders. Meghan, Diana, Sarah. And lower profile women like Katharine Worsley and Marie-Christine too. I can only think of Sophie as an example of a married-in senior woman who has not, as far as is known, suffered. I don't know what the exact issue is, just that there is clearly one.
In terms of Kate, I have no links to the family and no inside info, but I genuinely think that Kate is being treated for mental health issues at a location that is not, and never has been, the London Hospital or wherever it’s called. I’m not a tinfoil hat type btw. I just don’t buy it. And if I’m right, which of course I mightn’t be, I’m upset for her.
If I’m right (and of course it’s a big if) I don’t give a damn that the public has been misled into believing that Kate and her security team were teleported from Greater London to Windsor last week without being noticed by a single papp or member of the public. I don’t give a damn about the handful of official statements issued to the credulous public which may be misleading in order (appropriately) to protect her medical privacy and her children’s feelings. I don’t give a damn that she’s effectively disappeared from public life for forty days without a wellbeing update because as a republican, I’d rather that her role did not exist in the first place. But…I very much give a damn that if (and again, it’s a big if) I’m correct about her mental health crisis, she’s yet another woman like Meghan and Diana who hasn’t been looked after by The Firm and is struggling. And that’s a problem that everyone who gives a toss about women’s rights should care about.
