Wishing, Princess Kate a speedy and full recovery from me and my family.
Looking forward to Kate and William doing their bit for the UK soon.
A great family that is adored around the world.

She could have explained without explicitly referring to the derogatory nick name for the Princess though as several of us have said.

Well, yes. I'd have thought that was the kinder thing to do.
But maybe the interview was on the spur of the moment and Meghan hadn't had chance to consider what she'd say and what effect it may have.
She probably feels badly that she put the slur back into the public domain.
I hope someone has asked if she feels okay.

themessygarden · 04/02/2024 14:44

should have learnt not to hold such staunch opinions based on tabloid gossip.

not from tabloid gossip at all, it all came from Meghan's interview in front of a huge global audience, I formed my perspective and impression of her then.

OrangesLemonsLimes · 04/02/2024 14:59

I’m anti-monarchy for reasons which are regularly debated on Mumsnet and which I won’t bore everyone with now.

I am on this board because I’m also an advocate for women’s rights which is why I’ve been interested in the events of the last few weeks wrt Kate.

I have a problem with the way non-hereditary female royals are treated within the British royal setup, and with how many have had mental health issues, maybe eating disorders. Meghan, Diana, Sarah. And lower profile women like Katharine Worsley and Marie-Christine too. I can only think of Sophie as an example of a married-in senior woman who has not, as far as is known, suffered. I don't know what the exact issue is, just that there is clearly one.

In terms of Kate, I have no links to the family and no inside info, but I genuinely think that Kate is being treated for mental health issues at a location that is not, and never has been, the London Hospital or wherever it’s called. I’m not a tinfoil hat type btw. I just don’t buy it. And if I’m right, which of course I mightn’t be, I’m upset for her.

If I’m right (and of course it’s a big if) I don’t give a damn that the public has been misled into believing that Kate and her security team were teleported from Greater London to Windsor last week without being noticed by a single papp or member of the public. I don’t give a damn about the handful of official statements issued to the credulous public which may be misleading in order (appropriately) to protect her medical privacy and her children’s feelings. I don’t give a damn that she’s effectively disappeared from public life for forty days without a wellbeing update because as a republican, I’d rather that her role did not exist in the first place. But…I very much give a damn that if (and again, it’s a big if) I’m correct about her mental health crisis, she’s yet another woman like Meghan and Diana who hasn’t been looked after by The Firm and is struggling. And that’s a problem that everyone who gives a toss about women’s rights should care about.

I’m curious to know why you think they would not be open about the Princess having a MH issue, given the Heads Together project and the strong focus that the Wales’ have always put on MH issues?

I agree with this point. We have heard Meghan's take on things and seen and read her views on a number of platforms. She's been free to express them.

We haven't heard Catherine's. She can only be seen in public doing her job, and not expressing personal opinions or recounting her feelings about her life-experience.

This is a crucial difference. People aren't just forming opinions about Meghan based on tabloid journalism - she's put herself out there at great length and we hear things from her own lips.

CoffeeCantata · 04/02/2024 15:19

I understand why people might like Meghan. I understand why people might dislike her (see above - she has shown us who she is, for better or worse depending on your view).

But what I just can't understand is why people hate Catherine. I'm not suggesting anyone currently on this thread hates her, but some people do, and that puzzles me. She's not shown us anything other than her professional role, and I can't remember her ever uttering anything controversial or nasty which might justify the antagonism she seems to provoke.

Samcro · 04/02/2024 15:25

who hates Catherine ?
so you understand why some people dislike Meghan. but not why some people might not like Catherine......
that is an odd thing to say.
(I don't dislike either of them)

Mylovelygreendress · 04/02/2024 15:29

@OrangesLemonsLimes you really think there would have been police stationed outside the London Clinic for days on end if Catherine wasn’t there ?

Jealousy. Pure and simple.

Roussette · 04/02/2024 15:41

Who is jealous? Time and time again posters have said they wouldn't trade places with Kate for all the money in the world.
Not one person on MN is jealous of her position and her life in what is, in essence, a gilded cage.
I am jealous of her hair however!

And agree with @Samcro I don't hate either of them, neither of them deserve hate. We don't know them.

Deja vu....here we go again. Please read my post.

My point is that we can hear Meghan's voice directly expressing her views.

We can't hear Catherine's. We only see her at work, as it were.

Can you not see the difference?

I have also said that I don't think there are C-haters on this thread, but they do exist (yes, even on MN), and I'm curious as to what, considering C has not expressed any controversial views or even particularly personal views, this dislike is based on.

I sometimes wonder if I'm speaking the same language as you, Samcro!

CoffeeCantata · 04/02/2024 15:48

Roussette - they do not deserve hate and I would hope that no-one on here hates either of them. People may warm to one more than the other, that's human nature, but hating would be weird.

But there IS a difference: you say we don't know either of them, but we do know Meghan, surely, because she has appeared in a series about her personal life and experiences, had them recounted by her husband in his book and appeared in a very explicit interview on global TV. If we're not supposed to know anything about her personally after all that, then what was the point of it?

And I'm not including Omid Scobie's contributions here.

goodbyestranger · 04/02/2024 15:54

@OrangesLemonsLimes you really think there would have been police stationed outside the London Clinic for days on end if Catherine wasn’t there?

Mylovelygreendress it's entirely possible that police would be posted there, if only because the Palace feeds the public bullshit a lot of the time. It's only a skip and a hop to telling an outright lie.

That has nothing to do with whatever it is that's the health issue with Kate. There are only limited possibilities and OrangesLemonsLimes could have called it correctly or might not have done.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/02/2024 15:55

@Roussette who is jealous ? Well , Meghan for a start ! Probably due to Harry not explaining protocol to her , she clearly didn’t understand that she would always walk behind Catherine , always be behind her in terms of tiaras etc , the issue with titles for Archie .
Once reality struck things went downhill .

We don't know her personally. Yes, she gave an interview with Harry to OW and the NF series, but that is not knowing someone.

If that's the case, I know anyone who has been on a chat show, talk show, ... but I don't.

OK... so you don't like what she has said, and you can base your opinion of her on that, but we still don't know her.

Bear in mind.. on MN, she has been diagnosed as a narcissist time and time again. Unpleasant coming from armchair psychiatrists. Along with plenty of other insults... gold digger, selfish, nasty, unpleasant, manipulative, hateful, and far far more.

I don't know Kate either. Or Camilla who everyone wants to drink gin with despite not knowing her!

Some people are just weird with their celebrity crushes or hates though - the internet lets them congregate together so sometimes makes the number of people like this seem greater than it is. They are also more vocal.

There’s another forum which focuses on the Danish and other European royals and they HATE Queen Mary - have spent years saying really horrible things about her as soon as she married into the family. Oddly many of the Mary haters also hate Kate - so I guess they don’t like attractive, slim, uncontroversial brunettes who marry Princes? Shows there’s a niche for everyone!

On MN you have to bear in mind that there are some active and outspoken posters (on both ends of the love hate spectrum with the royal family) who name change A LOT. So feel like there are a lot of people saying the same extreme things but really it’s just a handful.

Feels like the most moderate posters (👋 @Roussette @Serenster for example) don’t name change so it’s easier to track their opinions across the different issues.

Excellent response Mylovelygreendress.

Yes, given the bullshit and obfuscation dealt to the public for so many years, I am being completely serious. It's a perfectly plausible idea and my post was in response to the idea not being plausible.

The rf in effect lies a great deal of the time.

Mylovelygreendress · 04/02/2024 16:00

@Roussette don’t be so rude . Sneering isn’t becoming .

goodbyestranger · 04/02/2024 16:01

It seems very dishonest to name change, unless it's done purely to prevent rl identification.

I'm afraid I was given exactly the same reaction when I exxpressed an opinion on Kate last week. (no idea who said it by the way)

I wondered if she had had her op two weeks previous to when the Palace gave out details of it, and had since been convalescing in private.

I got the same reaction about the Police being outside, it was called rubbish, nonsense and was ridiculed!

Roussette · 04/02/2024 16:05

goodbyestranger · 04/02/2024 16:06

Well I certainly wouldn't be impressed by the waste of public money but then Charles does seems to have been banged up in the same hospital for his op for at least a part of the same period. The dates did seem to co-incide with some felicity.
