From what I gather, I don't think Mario Max is a reeeeaaaaal Prince/aristocrat as we would understand it, by any stretch of the imagination. It all appears incredibly labyrinthian and involves him being adopted aged 24 and then again at 30. It looks very much like he's using a title that he's not entitled to.

I can see why M-M was so keen on cosying up to Harry, but what Harry gets from it is debatable.

Oh yeah - Max-Mario is a pretend Prince - but is the King of the US TV shopping networks where he flogs a "wealth elixir" 🙄🙄The thing is that the crowd at the dinner probably don't know or care that he is fake.

It shows just how far Harry has fallen. From glamourous red carpet events and mixing with real royalty, A++ listers and people of power, to the back tables of an LA hotel, for a rubber chicken dinner and the chance to rub shoulders with aviation industry geeks, Miss California and the Princely snake-oil salesman.

Uricon2 · 21/01/2024 15:34

Harry needs to get (and follow) much, much better advice about what he undertakes and with whom. He sees the need for "physical" protection but not that for someone reliable to steer him away from characters like M-M, who will exploit him to the nth degree given the opportunity.

notimagain · 21/01/2024 16:05

It would be interesting to see the list of attendees and seating plan..a lot of the attendees won't be household names but they're not geeks either.

If some of the previous Honorees turned up, the likes of Steven Udvar-Hazy or Clay Lacey, you're looking at hard headed business people who are well connected inside and outside aviation and (certainly in Steven Udvar-Hazy's case) utterly loaded...maybe useful people to know if you're trying to move in certain circles.

Absolutely.

Who was on Table 12 f'rinstance?

At the awards Harry gave a really nice speech.

Some posters seem to have gotten the wrong end of the stick regarding an exchange between Harry and John Travolta. I’ve seen 3 videos now of the night. Actually, I’ve seen 4 videos.

The first cell phone video, when John Travolta was at the podium addressing the audience, he address Harry directly in the audience, and Harry stood up and answered him. Harry did say his first flight was ‘classified’ when asked by John about it, but then said he remembered his first helicopter flight when he was 6 or 7. He told a funny short story regarding it, and the audience laughed. I’ve also read a bit more about what was said between John and Harry in that exchange and there was no animosity or ill feeling between them.

When Harry accepted his award he did rib John Travolta about the dancing and dining out etc., (that’s the short video supplied by an eager poster that some people on here were exercised about). Really, all it amounted to was that it wasn’t a great joke and felt a bit flat. The audience laughed again. The third video I saw was of Harry’s speech, and it was a very nice speech. Lots of applause and cheers followed.

The 4th video was taken outside the building and of the paparazzi and media. I did read there were quite a few British ‘journalists’ there, and photographers, but they wouldn’t have got much, because the big names mostly went in and out via a back entrance.

I think it was a successful night by the look of it. And the place looked to be packed.

I hope that whichever child of H&M’s was unwell is now feeling better.

So, much more occurred than the one very short video posted on here of the night, which was taken out of context.

@BrittleVeneers, your absence was noted over the weekend. Are you back in the office now 😂

BrittleVeneers · 22/01/2024 10:00

According to X/Twitter , the award was originally offered to William but he politely declined .
No idea if that is true but interesting if it is .

Why bring made up Twitter stuff here? Posters get upset when the rubbish on there about William and Kate is brought here - understandably upset imo.

So let’s not go Twitter-low.

Springcleaninginsummer · 22/01/2024 10:04

Yes, clear the inbox, dear.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 22/01/2024 10:22

@BrittleVeneers Please can you provide a link for the videos you've mentioned. Thank you.

If you could supply me with a list of places I can quote from I would appreciate it . TIA .
PS it’s not just on Twitter .

wildernesssw · 22/01/2024 10:33

it wasn’t a great joke and felt a bit flat.

I think we're all agreed on that. My conclusion after listening to a couple of times is that there was some bitterness in Harry's voice of the sort when someone has a dig dressed up as 'just a joke' - but of course other interpretations are available.

CoffeeCantata · 22/01/2024 10:45

I think Harry's comment was awkward at best and it fell very flat.

It just reinforces my belief that not many of us are gifted comedians - it's a rare thing. So many people who are called on to give speeches (especially 'Best' Men) try to do a comedy act and it ends up being excruciating.

Unless you're a brilliant, rapier-sharp wit, just thank the relevant people, appear suitably humble, possibly reminisce a bit if that's what's expected and go and sit down. So many awful situations result from people who think they can tell a joke etc.

MaturingCheeseball · 22/01/2024 10:57

I have to say that I think it was a joke. But jokes today are problematic as people will dissect them and written down most do not come across as funny at all.

Interesting the pro-Sussex crowd seized upon Sophie Wessex telling Frank Skinner “Don’t give up the day job” which, again, was a joke which landed badly. Any of the usual culprits defending Harry might do well to see if their names (or former names) were on that thread…

JSMill · 22/01/2024 11:01

I suppose you could argue it was a joke which fell flat but H then went on to dismiss JT. What did he say? 'You can go now' or something like that and made some hand gesture. That was so rude. My dh is from a well off Middle Eastern family and this reminded me how his arrogant entitled relatives speak to 'servants' (their words not mine).

Oh did he, eek. That’s not good.

@GlacindaTheTroll @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar sorry to leap back to Bruce Dickinson but I have more on this magnificent man… I was briefly at the same fencing club. Because of the advantage of being left handed as a fencer, he took his coach on tour to learn to fence left handed! He fights lefties with his right hand and vice versa. Very committed and very good (I think he changed weapon too now)

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 22/01/2024 18:17

@Vermin That's amazing! What a talented man he is.

@BrittleVeneers I can't see the videos you have described posted online. Please can you link them or let us know where to find them. Thank you.

Harry Living Legends Speech

Heres Harry’s speech. The other two videos I’m afraid you’ll have to find yourselves. ( They’re all on Twitter - do a search and you will eventually find them. I still had his speech open in a window - I normally don’t keep links to this sort of thing).

@Springcleaninginsummer

Posters ‘taking notice of my absence’ from here is a bit creepy. Especially when I don’t even recognise your name, nor have we ever exchanged posts or DM’d.
