A continuing civilised and enjoyable discussion of all things relating to Endgame. Please keep posts on topic - I do not want to have to invoke Ross Gellar again!

Thanks for the new thread, lovely to see some (on the whole) reasonable, informative and civilised debate, even when posters sometimes disagree. You wouldn’t think there would be so much to say on this topic, but the contradictions from H, M and OS are just astonishing and keep on giving…..

RedRosesPinkLilies · 11/12/2023 11:24

Very interesting thread. Not posting, just enjoying

cocolocopocos · 11/12/2023 11:24

Does anyone have a copy of the dreaded book? Perhaps they could upload some excerpts for our consideration?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/12/2023 11:25

I posted this last night on the previous thread, but it got a bit lost in the Time Warp. There's been a bit of this on the news today, so thought I'd pop it back into the discussion.

Just changing tack a bit, about a topic I mentioned upthread. One of Scobie's criticisms of William in Endgame is that he effectively has "silenced" Diana for asking for the now disgraced Diana/Martin Bashir interview to never be shown again. Conversely, he praised H&M for using clips of the interview in their Netflix series, saying they were "giving her a voice".

Journalist, Andy Webb, has been investigating Bashir, and how he induced Diana to agree to the interview. He used falsified bank statements to dupe both Diana and her brother, Charles, into believing that staff were taking bribes to betray her.

William has stated that the actions of Bashir made his mother extremely paranoid, and led to her letting go of her (hitherto) trusted security - a move that may have resulted in her death. Scobie has accused William of stigmatising his mother with paranoia; and doing the same to Harry - because Harry must always be aligned to Diana, and somehow William is to blame for Harry's mental health issues becoming public, when it was Harry himself who first spoke of this publicly.

Mr Webb, with Charles Spencer's support, had been trying to get the BBC to respond to Freedom of Information requests pertaining to Bashir and the now disgraced documentary. He has now received a judgment from the court order for the release of emails, which may reveal a more recent cover up over Bashir's activities all those years ago.

The chain of events that this interview ignited are not to be under-estimated, imo. I wonder how different things would be today if Diana had not been lied to.

Susan Hussey has been a royal aide for decades. She was even asked by the Queen to support the young Princess Anne when she started royal duties - that'show experienced and trusted she is. Who the hell goes into a new job in a wholly unfamiliar environment and turns down that sort of help?

This was from the previous thread @MrsDanversGlidesAgain, and while we can't know if the Susan Hussey story's true I'd suggest a possible answer to "Who'd turn down help?" is anyone who never intended hanging around in the first place

As I've said before it's no more than a personal opinion, but seen from that POV why bother learning the ropes if the real aim was to secure the connection, title and whatever inside info was available and then create a narrative which made leaving "the only option"?

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 11/12/2023 11:28

It is truly awful what was allowed to go on at the BBC. I wonder who knew.

cauliflowerwaterfall · 11/12/2023 11:28

I looked it up and Finding Freedom sold 31k in the first week so Endgame is a fraction of that

Sorry to be a Pain but what does invoking Ross Keller mean? I have googled but it's not clear.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 11/12/2023 11:32

@Puzzledandpissedoff

I'm not convinced that was her aim in the beginning. Rather I think she thought (had been told?) that she would be able to run in and modernise everything and everyone would be so thankful and immediately change everything she didn't like.

I think leaving was a flounce.

Hughs · 11/12/2023 11:35

Responding quickly so you don't need to report anyone 😅

Ross Geller - he is a character in a sitcom called Friends, played by David Schwimmer. There is a funny scene where three characters are trying to manoeuvre a sofa up a staircase and Ross keeps shouting pivot. A PP posted a gif of that moment previously, indicating that the discussion had gone off track and people should "pivot" back to the topic.

Hughs · 11/12/2023 11:36

Sorry that explanation was for @Rockybooboo
Forgot to tag 🤦‍♀️

I wonder what the fall out will be once these emails are revealed, and whether Harry will back his brother. To be clear, I am not wholly sure where I stand on the interview and whether it should never again be shown. But Scobie using it as a stick to beat William - as if his mother didn't also die, is a nasty way of seeking to completely annex the memory and spirit of Diana for Harry, and by extension, Meghan, imo.

@ArcaneWireless I was trying to be cryptic

I agree with your points in that post, but in a thread, as in life, if someone continues to try and make it all about them (agree @mrsmingleton) then silence is the best option.

Mylovelygreendress · 11/12/2023 11:45

This thread is so interesting and - mostly- good natured .
On thread 4 someone asked about Tom Bower’s Revenge . I am sure I read that it sold over 30,000 copies in the first couple of weeks .
An excellent book and he challenged H and M to sue him . They didn’t.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/12/2023 11:46

You could be right, @RecoIIectionsMayVary; after all personal views can be mistaken

It's just that, for me, so much points that way with someone who seems pretty narcissistic, lacks loyalty and has a long record of ploughing in and then abandoning people/causes fairly quickly

I’m torn.

Both make sense.

I do think if it was the latter, then whatever stirring or entitled gobshite who chose to put that notion in their head, needs telt.

A few folk need telt. I have no doubt they were - in a myriad of ways. It doesn’t always sink in though if you think the world should revolve around you. 🌱

cauliflowerwaterfall · 11/12/2023 11:46

I didn’t report it but to be fair I also thought the plant thing was some kind of coded insult when I first saw it
