William's Life's Work Is To End Homelessness.

Just seen this post about an article in the Daily Mail.
William say's life's work is to end homelessness. His father is (and soon enough himself) the largest land owner in the country.
Instead of posing with the same homeless guy year in and year out asking commoners to end homelessness surely he can carve out some of that land to build low rent flats and studios for the poorest. He never gives up any of his money for anything but is always asking. His expenses are paid for - holidays, children's fees, accommodation etc.
Or even use all the money that comes to them from people who died intestate. It's unhealthy to accumulate so much wealth without doing any work. Even doctors who study for years and save lives do not get anything close to this. It makes no sense.

If it’s his life’s work he’s doing a piss poor job

The partners in Homewards a far from "a bit stupid"

He's got all the people who matter round a table in a way that doesn't seem to have happened before. And is aimed at tackling all angles of homelessness, which is significantly more complex than just building some homes in remote, semi-rural locations (where they happen to own land that would be OK to release)

That's somewhat delusional. The people have been "around the table" for decades. The thing that got in the way is the lack of £millions. Let's see, do we know any families with £millions?

Wahtnow · 06/12/2023 21:08

Blimey, I'm doing one shift a week at the shelter this winter and feeling like it's not enough.

I haven't told a soul (IRL) let alone the DM.

Thread here, rather than diverting this one

Duchy of Lancaster Theft | Mumsnet

But missing your input 🙁

I think the royal family hammered the nail in their coffin when they treated M&H so badly and failed to stand up for them. The younger generation wanted a more diverse, representative RF, they’ve lost their best chance of survival. It’s over; just a matter of time now.

Nobody really cares about anything William does, if he cared about continuation of the firm he’d have stood up for his brother.

LastChristmasIgaveyoumyTart · 06/12/2023 21:15

@Mincepiesrus i disagree, I think M&H only have themselves to blame.

Really?

In what fora? - genuine question, because when you have the likes of Shelter saying that this collaboration is unprecedented, I tend to believe it

(For avoidance of doubt, I'm not saying no-body works together, ever. Rather what I meant from the start, which is that the scale and scope doesn't seem to have happened before).

Williams's Life Work is Generating Half-Hearted Low-Effort Good PR for his Family of Grifters.

Alt headline.

Perfect

https://www.republic.org.uk/

It’s an insulting and clueless campaign - but then his dad has managed to convince millions that he gives a fuck about the environment while flying millions of miles in private jets and living in multiple homes. He’s learnt from the best 🙄

Republic

We want to see the monarchy abolished and the King replaced with an elected, democratic head of state. In place of the King we want someone chosen by the people, not running the government but representing the nation independently of our politicians. A...

Where do you get the idea that people on this thread don't understand the complexity of homelessness?

Of course it is complex. Which makes it all the more despicable that the RF, with its untold millions, do so very little to tackle the issue.

Because of the number of people saying to just build on his own land.

and your comment here is more evidence. You think it’s all about money.

coxesorangepippin · 07/12/2023 01:26

If I was so shit at my job I'd have been fired by now

cocolocopocos · 07/12/2023 05:19

I applaud William's efforts, as do many many others. Sitting around muttering nasty things to like-minded grumps isn't going to help anyone. William is looking outward and trying to make a difference.

pilates · 07/12/2023 07:05

Polly Neate, chief executive of Shelter, seems to be proud to be working with POW.

I applaud POW efforts too but if you’re part of the ‘not my king brigade’ nothing will ever be good enough.

FuckHonestlyKnows · 07/12/2023 07:52

@AliceOlive I realty really don't, but it would certainly help! And that's the thing he could most usefully offer.

LimeCheesecake · 07/12/2023 08:02

Oh look it’s nearly Christmas, when the right wing press stop viewing homeless people as having a lifestyle choice and temporarily care, so William is talking about homelessness being his passion. When there’s a football tournament (men only), it’s his passion and he’s really keen. In between it’s the environment- but not enough to take the train over a helicopter/private jet.

it’s too cynical, clearly timetabled and he needs better PR.

Theunamedcat · 07/12/2023 08:21

a1234567 · 06/12/2023 21:01

He could start by stopping the automatic right of people who have not made a will on their house, assuming it would go to their NOK going straight to the Crown Estate, if that is indeed the case, as was reported in the last few weeks!

It's only if no NOK can be found it usually goes to the government

ANightingale · 07/12/2023 08:21

I don't see him using any of his own wealth to fund housing initiatives. Rank hypocrisy cosying up to a photogenic homeless person and then going home to one of his multiple, vast properties where millions has been spent on refurbishment.

Samcro · 07/12/2023 08:27

well we need more social housing.
doubt he will be building them. between this and saving the planet his hypocrisy is out standing.

Yep, and I don't see many people here (not the UK) who have anything good to say about them either.

Why bother with better PR? They're so far from honestly caring what we think of them, they should just save the money.

a1234567 · 07/12/2023 08:47

Yes, but that money actually goes to the Duchy as was reported a few weeks ago and many people were rightly outraged about this as had not been common knowledge before this, and I certainly wouldn't put it past them!

a1234567 · 07/12/2023 08:50

It is indeed rank hypocrisy for them to do this!

Threewheeler1 · 07/12/2023 08:52

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/12/2023 10:53

How many houses do they own? How many bedrooms?

6000 rooms apparently.
Obscene!
