Today is December 6th! If you haven't yet made plans, I guess you will be having a quiet Christmas! Does anyone remember when QEII went against etiquette and invited M for Christmas as otherwise she'd be on her own and H made some comment about how M didn't really have any family. (Happy to be corrected on this quote). M looked chuffed to bits in her little brown hat to be at church that day (undoubtedly her first trip to church at Christmas). Fast forward to Christmas 2019 and they were too good for Sandringham. God knows if they actually want an invite or are just playing games through the media.

Same could be said of many of their wedding guests. At the time, I naively thought that MM knew the Clooneys, Oprah etc through being an actress. Of course, one could say the same in reverse - 'Tell me, Ms Winfrey, why did you accept an invitation from a minor actress you didn't know, to attend a wedding in a castle in the presence of royalty?'

They got on famously well with ER II.

Apparently, once when Michelle Obama was in London with her daughters on a private visit, the Queen heard they were in town and invited them to tea at BP. This was when Obama was no longer president, so no diplomatic courtesies involved, and absolutely no reason why the Queen should have done this if she hadn't genuinely wanted to.

The story, as I recall, came from Michelle herself after the Queen died, so presume it's true.

The Obamas are both lawyers to trade and incredibly smart and accomplished people. They know hard work and would likely be able to make anything they turned their hands to successful.

H and M - maybe not so much. Not without skills but it's really a whole different level isn't it.

I remember Reece Witherspoon saying she got an invite to the wedding of Harry and Meghan, if my recollection is correct she said why would she go to a wedding if someone she doesn't know.

I've just read a summary of 'Meet Me At The Lake' which is presumably hot-footing it into production now the writer's strike is dust.

Apparently it explores the gap between plans and reality.

I am about halfway through the presidential memoir Book 1 and I am very impressed by both the Obama’s . They are clearly hard workers who want to make a difference and to give back. They are loyal and fair to those they met and worked with. I can see that anything they do is well thought through.

I wish the Obamas were still in the White House so much.

Meghan could do worse than write her story of a mixed race Californian girl who married a British Prince. I bet it would be snapped up, as long as it had a happy ending....

Mmmnnn....not sure. Obama started the whole trans garbage and his chef died in mysterious circumstances...there have been some questions around these two.

Yes! Yes! They had so much class, dignity, respect, empathy, manners, etc etc. There is no one remotely like them amongst our politicians. I feel sorry for my children growing up with the calibre of politicians these days.

@Abra1t yes he has a sharp mind but he uses it to con people IMO. He is the wolf in sheep's clothing.

I DO remember when QE2 waived the rules for her and Harry said something about her being with the family she never had so far or words to that effect. A friend of a friend apparently sneered about the brown beret but I thought it looked right chic!

@FinallyFinalGirl spend 2-3 minutes looking at sensible news sites and you'll see there is only made-up conspiracy bollocks about Tafari Campbell. Please don't just repeat things as if they're fast.

I genuinely don't understand why some people insist on taking such a negative view of a really positive initiative.

William is very rich, but would they honestly rather he did nothing? His initiative seems very well thought through and he's involved really good partners to work with. It's clearly not going to "end all homelessness", but if it can put a bit of a dent jn the problem then what's the issue?

It's criticism for criticisms sake - just because of who he is.

And I bet if H or M came up with a similar initiative the same people would be applauding it.

It's criticism because he could do so very much, but in fact does so very little. While calling it 'his life's work'. I mean, it's embarrassing for him really.

The initiative was only launched a couple of months ago. How can you say he's done "so little"?

He's in his forties I think. Did he only realise a few months back that he was a) underemployed and b) fucking epically loaded?

Neither Princes are friends with Hugh Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, in the traditional sense. Hugh is 32, so much younger than both Princes. But his family and previous Grosvenors have supported the English monarch for almost 1,000 years. The Grosvenor family came to England from France with William ‘the Conqueror’ and helped put him on the English throne. The Grosvenor family have supported the English monarchs ever since. In return, over the centuries, they have been gifted pieces of land in the UK and overseas, and titles to thank them for their service. As a result the current Duke’s assets stand at approx £10 billion. At one time they owned most of the East coast of the US including Maine and New York. They conceded these vast and valuable lands during the American war of independence, and stayed loyal to the King in the defeat.
The idea that any Duke of Westminster would go against a Monarch or Prince of Wales in favour of a younger brother is absolutely unthinkable and would break an almost 1,000 year tradition. But Prince Harry’s knowledge of his own family history is abysmal. He thought King Henry VI who founded Eton College, his school, was his great great great great great great grandfather. His ignorance absolutely astounds me. I wonder whether he has any idea about his family’s history with the Grosvenors at all.
