LS, yup. Everything you say about the RF welcoming Meghan. They had the world at their feet after the wedding. I do think that once Meghan heard the words “cottage” & “duchess” she was like, eh? What about castle & princess? I don’t she got the memo about senior royalty. She married the spare.

LeggyLegsEleven · 10/12/2023 18:50

I don’t think AW has a relationship with Catherine but I imagine wants to keep on her good side for Vogue covers.

No the royals are not going to the met ball etc. They tend to have their own events rather than attend celeb based ones. I think it’s fairly clear that M&H thought they would be treated like A lister celebs in the US. That’s not happening.

Hughs · 10/12/2023 18:51

Did any of The Royals go to The Oscars or Elton's party?

No, but then they are not trying to make it in the world of Hollywood entertainment, so don't need to be seen at such events.

ArcaneWireless · 10/12/2023 18:52

Quite Hughs.

Serenster · 10/12/2023 18:53

Diana went to the Met ball once, after she had split from Charles. It wasn’t such a big thing then as it now is, either.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 10/12/2023 18:48

Because they are in the entertainment industry now, and the Oscars are the pinnacle.

They didn't get an Emmy nomination for the docuseries. Nor did Harry get a Grammy nomination for Spare (audio version). These are the sorts of awards that make you a major player in the industry.

They've only just started out so why would they be a major player?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 10/12/2023 19:02

You are really reaching. What other new starters get £20m Netflix deals, Spotify deals when they are completely untested in the podcast field, and 5 book publishing deals? What else were they viewed as to get those deals, other than major players? They have not only just started out, they have been at this for several years, and their output is lousy and sparse.

When Meghan guest edited British Vogue, it was claimed it was a nightmare for BV, Edward Enniful and the Vogue staff were left exasperated by her demands. I think it was in Bowers' book. Enniful and MM have never confirmed or denied those rumours, but it seems it is pretty likely considering his lack of response when he was asked about M not attending the coronation.

"But when asked how he feels about Meghan’s decision to stay in California for the Coronation, Enninful, who has been British Vogue’s editor-in-chief since April 2017, froze and refused to answer the question – before a media advisor added: "I think we better leave now."."

So not sure if AW is ready to bring H&M into the fold just yet.

Don't know how that link ended up there.

They've only just started out so why would they be a major player?

Because the production deals that landed in their lap are absolutely not the kind of deals given to someone who is a total novice in producing.

They could have started out with baby steps, but I don’t think they wanted to start at the bottom and work their way up, building a track record as they did so. Unfortunately if you come in straight at the top echelon, the expectations are correspondingly high, and so is the risk if it doesn’t work out.

Spotify is a good example of this - lots of money given to produce one podcast series (28 people were credited on Archetypes - that’s a lot of salaries to pay considering some of the most popular podcasts involve just 3 or 4 people). It had a huge advertising budget. Huge billboards in major cities across the US. And when it didn’t do well enough - the deal is pulled and they get called “F-ing grifters” by the senior management. Harsh - but those are the waters they want to swim in.

How do you know she thought this. It's strange but when it comes to the accusations that Kate is racist, Royals want receipts or it's denied as vicious rumour but Meghan's character is pulled apart and no proof is required.

Also Beatrice and Eugenie went to (what was largely called the British version of the Met Gala) the Vogue World party that was thrown by Anna Wintour this year during London Fashion week https://www.vogue.com/article/princess-eugenie-and-beatrice-vogue-world-london

Well, there's no other evidence Catherine has ever expressed racist thoughts.

Quite a bit of evidence - from her own mouth, filmed by her choice of director - that Meghan was surprised about things such as the size of accommodation she was offered

parksandrecs · 10/12/2023 19:14

'other evidence' - evidence at all, apart from vague insinuations by Meghan. Which seemed to catch Harry by surprise on Oprah.

Not listened to Archetypes as there i don't use Spotify but found Spare interesting and it was a bestseller. They've taken a risk in a new venture which might not work out. They were unhappy in The Royal family so they left . I mean they may fail, it happens and I know you'd be ecstatic. I hope it works out for Archie and Lillie's sake.

How do you know she thought this.

You wrote this about Meghan.

I will write something similar.

How do you know anyone will be ecstatic if they fail?

Hughs · 10/12/2023 19:33

I think they have probably already failed - the podcast did poorly, they lost the Spotify deal, were publicly called grifters, Pearl was cancelled and they haven't made any original content for Netflix beyond documentaries about themselves. It's not great, after this long. They are in a much worse position now than when they started, which I'm sure was not the plan for their new career.

Spare was a best seller, granted. But it was also the most dumped book of the summer and is currently the most sold back book to second hand sellers, at around the £2.50 mark. Sales figures were probably highly inflated in the first place, because they are based on orders placed by retailers, rather than copies sold. The book has been widely derided, and helped make Harry an absolute laughing stock. It's a pyrrhic victory.

OP posts:
cauliflowerwaterfall · 10/12/2023 19:40

They have definitely peaked. Spare was everything on the table. Hard to see how they can top or even match that in future. How do they keep paying for the fleet of blacked out vehicles full of bodyguards. The best they can hope is maybe Meghan will write her a book, and that will do as well as Spare. Maybe. Seems both the haters and the stans are getting bored of the same 18 months rehashed again and again though.

From the horses mouth...... Meg was not too happy with their living quarters (the receipts),

As he watched Meghan walk up the garden path to his home, Prince Harry says he was 'relieved' that she 'gave no indication of disillusionment'.

However, that changed when the duchess stepped inside the cottage - where the ceilings are 'dolls' house low'. He added: 'Then she said something about a frat house.'

Tthe couple revealed how Oprah was stunned by the 'small' size of their home when she 'went round for tea' - and told them 'no one would ever believe' they were living there.

During one episode, Meghan points out that the living space was far from expansive, saying: 'Kensington Palace sounds very regal, of course it does, it says "palace" in the name. But Nottingham Cottage was so small.'

Harry says the Prince and Princess of Wales' lavish apartment left him and his wife feeling 'embarrassed' by their 'cosy' living quarters.

^^

Well ok they've failed. Not much left to talk about them then. We can now concentrate on William's pledges to sort out the middle East conflict and eradicate the UK's homeless crisis.

I thought it was interesting. I don’t listen to podcasts generally. I couldn’t see the longevity in the theme, though and it was hard to see Meghan (beautiful, expensively educated in private schools, famous, rich, married to a prince) as a compelling person to explore these themes. She has a great voice, crisp and clear.

Do you mean the "full commitment to achieving a full and lasting peace"
