It will indeed be interesting to see if the couple can pull any success from all the chaos they have caused. They have very powerful friends, but not much in the way of talent so it will be interesting to see what they can achieve.

One thing this whole mess has shown the wider world is how much manipulation goes on behind the scenes in the whole entertainment industry. How magazine articles are paid for, pap strolls organised and award ceremonies stage managed to achieve what large agencies want for their clients. The string pulling and gaslighting has been a real eye opener and in particular the manipulation exerted via social media.

LaurieStrode · 10/12/2023 12:45

Agree with @Getthethrowonthesofa

Bottom line is that they lack the talent, intellect, work ethic and super-charisma.

And in an incredibly short span of time, they squandered the things that would compensate for those lacks, including mystique, access to the RF and confidence of A-listers & top production companies/publishers.

No one with anything to lose will want them now because they are vapid and untrustworthy. They are South Park laughingstocks.

The issue with end game is there is nothing new in it, you’d have to be some sort of super fan to spend money to read the same again, and this time it’s critiqued as being badly written. It’s just grubby.

im still nauseated by the fact sky news Australia said it calls Megan the new diana, that’s disgusting, and if you need to tell people that’s what you are, it’s clearly not true.

Sadly H & M have been pushing the Diana narrative for a long time. In the Netflix series they used their reception in Australia as a we are much better at this than everyone else in the RF, just like my Mum narrative.

Rockybooboo · 10/12/2023 13:20

Well the British should know about press manipulation and gaslighting. We've been told a load of lies about the RoyAl family. The brainwashing began as a kid, i remember the 1977 jubilee and being primary and having how wonderful the RoyAl family are. There was no mention of the atrocities of The British Empire. Then came the wedding sold as some sort of a fairy tale when all time the devious pair of shits that are now our King and Queen were playing us all along.

LeggyLegsEleven · 10/12/2023 13:22

Unluckily for them most people don’t view them as the new Diana.
Diana’s popularity is wrapped up in her being cheated on/getting divorced and then dying.
Lots of women identified with Diana, especially when she got divorced. I think Catherine gets closer to it than them, with the ‘working mum’ thing.

I think it would be very patronising comparing Catherine to a working mum. She doesn't know what a really hard stressful job is. She doesn't face redundancy, she doesn't struggle with childcare. She's not.keeping on top of housework or having to do the food sho p.

Meghan is probably more relatable to people who have faced bigotry or hate their in laws and there are a lot of them

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 10/12/2023 13:45

I think it is more than that. She was the first tactile member of the RF.

Her time with AIDs patients, touching them at a time of true fear and prejudice must not be overlooked. Her charity work with landmines etc.

It is all such a bloody mess eh @rosyglowcondition ?

I do think they made the best decision - for them - to leave but I don’t think they envisaged how things would turn out.

It could have been so different. I don’t know what possessed them to concentrate on the negatives instead of embracing the positives. It was a definite crossroads and they chose the wrong way.

They may well feel disenchanted and bitter about how events transpired even though it may have felt totally valid to them.

But it might now be time to let it go and prove everyone wrong by knuckling down and doing what will ultimately make them happy. And that will take so much more hard graft now. They not only have to work to achieve the dream but also now they have to turn opinions.

A colleague was always saying how much they hated their job, gave up trying, bitched about this and that (a lot) because they felt they deserved better.

The dream job came up and they had a foot in the door and transferable skills.

And all that folk remembered was the bitching, complaining and the lack of effort. And guess what?

If ever folk want an example of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory…

I will say it until I’m blue in the face. Happy people don’t seek to make others miserable. Happy people spread joy wherever they go.

What a waste of a wonderful opportunity.

Why do you type it RoyAl, @Rockybooboo?

Autocorrect probably? It doesn't matter does it!

Hughs · 10/12/2023 14:10

No I was just curious because you did it both times so it looked like a deliberate choice.

Lunde · 10/12/2023 14:16

I think that they showed very poor judgement in trying to launch a career based on slagging off their family and Royal connections. The money must have been tempting but in the long term they have burnt their bridges with the RF, which was their unique selling point, and Hollywood's A-list have mostly backed away as it is clear, from the way they have treated their family, that absolutely no conversation is confidential - everything and anything is content to them. They will literally sell (his) granny.

They could have had a nice life and done the sort of things that Zara and Mike Tindall do as spokespersons for luxury companies - drinks, cars, watches, clothing etc that are favoured by the polo, country, rugby, sailing, horsey set etc, plus podcasts that are actually fun rather than lecturing. If they had done it this way they would have remained welcome at royal family events, and family members might have done podcast guest spots etc. However their decision was to scorched earth and people are now bored with 2 rich people constantly whining about how hard their privileged royal life was ... and they seem to have nothing else to sell and no new ideas.

ArcaneWireless · 10/12/2023 14:21

I wonder if OS has any regrets?

I don’t think things have quite gone as planned. Inadvertently biting the hand that feeds you for starters.

Is he still in the body of the kirk or has he been cast out in the cold?

I can't imagine.anything worse than hanging out with the horsey and rugby sets. Why would anyone want that? Those sort of people would have not welcomed Meghan.

Prince Harry's whole life has been a commodity and on public display. Why shouldn't he talk about it?

Nothing wrong with that! Just try to avoid marrying Prince Harry, I guess… 😀

parksandrecs · 10/12/2023 14:35

Or the arts and theatre set. Or the luxury lodge in Africa set.

Loads of sets they could have had their pick of!

Maybe he wants to hang out with different peoole?

Not everyone in life shares the same interests as you. It’s very small minded to suggest that because you would not want to pass time with these people, no one else would. Harry was brought up with these people and would have shared in these interest. Meghan obviously didn’t. It doesn’t make the “horsey and rugby sets” wrong. Just different.

themessygarden · 10/12/2023 14:39

Ah, but it looks like Meghan hankered after the Hollywood set.

I'm aware that every person has the same interests as me but I'm responding to a poster who thinks that this would be the ultimate dream.

’Those sort of people’ accepted me.

Sometimes acceptance is down to who you are rather than what you are.

rosyglowcondition · 10/12/2023 14:44

I think the 'Hollywood set' are actors with actual talent?

Hughs · 10/12/2023 14:47

Hollywood's A-list have mostly backed away

I think the ref to Courteney Cox's magic mushrooms was a big mistake. It really does show that anything anyone says or does around Harry is fair game. It's not just about airing his grievances against his family, he'll sell any bit of gossip.

And I think that he may have lost old friends for whom loyalty and discretion are important. Plus for those UK friends who know both William and Harry, surely it's a no brainer, if forced to choose, to go with the brother you bump into now and again, who will be king one day.

I don't know who you are so that meaningless to me.
