Oh the hate, the hate.

Breakfast was an act of love.

As she gazed at him longingly, she absentmindedly ran her fingers along the countertop and realised that she ached for him. Burned for him.

bastard waffle iron

organic mix I eyerolled so hard. I work with someone like this it is exhausting.

That book just looks fantastic, @mrsmingleton ! What an exciting tale!
I bet there's a horrible brother who attacked him and broke his special amulet....

He can write well? No evidence of that that I've seen.

An example of Scobie's sophisticated, erudite prose.

As the morning sun rises over Santa Barbara, bathing the steep Santa Ynez Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean sparkles with California’s trademark glow, the sprawling Sussex compound in the wealthy enclave of Montecito is already popping. With Meghan already preparing a family breakfast in the kitchen, Prince Harry is busy getting the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, ready for nursery school and toddler playgroup, respectively.

That's the type of thing you might expect from a 14 year old at a Creative Writing workshop.

Why is each person referenced by their title except for Meghan here?

Upon reading the extract that's exactly the first thing I wondered! I mean seriously why the need to use Prince and princess for the kids and Harry. The person reading the bloody book knows who it's about so the titles just seems so pointed.

I suspect it’s proximity.

I suppose 'Princess Henry of Wales, Meghan' sounds a tad clunky, when the hauntingly atmospheric imagery is supposed to be one of the incredibly wealthy but humble and happy chic-hippy lifestyle of globally significant feminist humanitarians who escaped an unsafe country full of hereditary monsters [can I stop now?]

ArcaneWireless · 07/12/2023 18:04

Princess Henry of Wales?

IcedPurple · 07/12/2023 18:06

ArcaneWireless · 07/12/2023 18:04

Princess Henry of Wales?

She has never been 'of Wales'. This feminist takes her husband's titles by default, and he ceased to be 'Henry Wales' on the day he married her and became Duke of Sussex. So she would be Princess Henry of Sussex.

ArcaneWireless · 07/12/2023 18:07

It is odd though that Meghan wasn’t given a title in that rambling scene setter.

Rude.

Elvanseshortage · 07/12/2023 18:07

I am half way through listening to it on Audible. He has a pleasant speaking voice but makes so many mistakes in pronunciation and there is some vocabulary and grammar which is plain wrong. These are words I have picked up while half listening doing other things.
Mispronounced words
Machinations
Valet
Despot
Riposte
Swathe
Furore
Soubriquet
Mantel (Hilary)
Escalate
Marquis

Made up/wrong words
Duplexity (supposed to be duplicity?)
Granada (he means Grenada)
Jitterrish (jittery?)
Reluctancy (perhaps this is American English)

Sounds ridiculously verbose. I thought he was British? It reminds me of someone I know who plays Scrabble at a high level. They spend hours learning obscure words that no one ever uses, and couldn’t tell you what they mean anyway.

themessygarden · 07/12/2023 18:11

That Guardian skit is so funny ! he really nailed it. 😀

I googled am channelling Scobie's accuracy levels

Elvanseshortage · 07/12/2023 18:17

@Chouxpastryishard to be fair, the writing as a whole isn’t that verbose. It’s just that he’s clearly not really familiar with some of the words he is saying. It’s like an actor has been asked to read someone else’s words aloud. It’s odd that he doesn’t know how to pronounce the words he has written himself.

MalagaNights · 07/12/2023 18:17

Prince Harry is busy getting the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, ready for nursery school and toddler playgroup, respectively.

This reads like a very twee children's book.

Next page: Princess Lilibet waves bye bye to her daddy as she rushes into nursery to see all her friends.

The children's twee names used with the titles, and the appalling clichéd writing, really creates this picture book style.

That would suggest someone else wrote it? I wonder who? 🤔

MalagaNights · 07/12/2023 18:21

I have seen in the news today that Harry is claiming he and his wife were forced to leave royal service and the UK.

Forced how I wonder? Because they couldn't do the half in half out?
Would they have wanted that with those racist bullying relatives??

I bet Charles and William are very very glad they didn't agree to any halfway compromise now.

Elvanseshortage · 07/12/2023 18:23

@Chouxpastryishard if OS didn’t write it I can’t imagine who did?

Vespanest · 07/12/2023 18:32

The endgame would have been any form of half in and half out. Harry and in the future Charles grandchildren (both sides) swanning off around the world funded by the UK whilst Charles, Anne and William open hospitals in the pissing rain.

Forced? My arse.

Felt forced? Possibly.

Although quite why anyone would feel forced to leave if the family are as awful as claimed?

I’d be running gladly.

Emotive language designed to fuel fires.

A shame.

Forced yet posted grinning selfies toasting his 'flight to freedom' en route to Canada. He lies like a cheap carpet.
