La Pom Pom Girl is doing the Double Dutch. But who is turning the skipping ropes? Part three/trois/drie of the continuing discussion of Endgame by Omid Scobie. Previous thread:

I'm not sure what is the correct etiquette for carrying on a thread, but here we are. Thanks to {mention:BoxedandRibboned} for the original thread....

Chouxpastryishard Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstotheyard As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I once worked with Scobie and he could write. He's a trained journalist. There are many unanswered questions surrounding him but there's no way he didn't write this book.

AliceOlive · 04/12/2023 07:51

Yeah he said other journalists commented snarkiily that Meghan would probably text him when she gave birth. They were annoyed by his proximity. He never explained why they would say something like that. What happened or what did they know?

Oh, I've no doubt about it, but that doesn't mean he hasn't rewritten original source material. He keeps saying he only wrote and edited the English version of the book. I find that turn of phrase odd, as there should be only one version of the book in any language - the foreign language ones are translations, not versions.

Interesting timing for the 'king and future queen consort are racists' to be slipped out given that several Caribbean nations are actively looking to become republics.

I guess he could've sent it to them to do a read-through for approval… which would explain even more why they've stayed quiet. If he's got an email trail showing they received the m/s from him ahead of him submitting it to his agent and publishers... game over. Or Endgame.

The comment about Prince William being 'heartless' over Queen's death was also in that early version.

So much for Scobie swearing on his family's life.

MaturingCheeseball · 04/12/2023 08:08

Interesting thing I read elsewhere, that the letter referred to “Princess of Wales” (I know this has been already discussed).

But the point is that IF it did mean Camilla, then KC will not want to throw her under the bus, and may be arguing with William behind the scenes as William will want Catherine’s name cleared.

So much for Scobie swearing on his family's life.

I think he can just about wriggle out of that one as well. I had to remind myself exactly what he said. From the Sky news account of that inteview with Vic D:

Mr Scobie swore on Thursday that the incident was not part of a publicity stunt.
"On my and my family's life," he said, when quizzed by Newsnight's Victoria Derbyshire.
He added: "It is serious, I feel hurt by some of the conspiracy theories that this is a publicity stunt and that I am in cahoots with my 'pal' - all of this is frustrating." (My underlining.)

Mind you, it could be argued that this potentially drops the Montecito end even further in the shite.

But at least we may all be spared some unedifying godly smiting of bewildered relatives on a wintry Monday morning in cloud cuckoo land.

Bookworm1111 · 04/12/2023 08:12

MaturingCheeseball Camilla has only ever been the Duchess of Cornwall though. No one ever refers to her as Princess of Wales because that's never been her title. Plus according to the extract, the letter mentioned Catherine by first name.

Sisterpita · 04/12/2023 08:15

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain I think the change to republics is well underway in many Caribbean countries. KC attended the Barbados republic celebrations recognising the need for change.

I was fascinated when I visited several Caribbean countries in 2022 and the local guides were so keen to tell us about their education and governance systems. In particular their National Insurance and pension were seen as a positive thing. It was all very recognisably British.

I think that’s sensible tbh. I wouldn’t want a HoS not on ‘home turf’. I’d want someone from my own country that understands mine and my country’s issues.

Another interesting factoid. The CEO of OS's agency, United Talent Agency - currently in the firing line for sending out the wrong manuscript - is Jeremy Zimmer, the same fellow who declared at the Cannes Film Festival this year that MM has no talent.

Given the track record of things he recently swore that were proven to have happened not much later, I'd imagine he thereby confirmed that it was indeed very much a publicity stunt.

Yet again strikes the bad luck of the Sussexes.

Depends. If they put the Dior rumour about themselves, to try to take the shine from Camilla (they have form for doing this with various family members) it's not bad luck, it's what they deserved.

I'd assumed they wouldn't know anything (at the time they parted ways from Spotify) about QC's planned wardrobe for the State Visit to France (end of the summer). But Dior probably did by then

It didn't actually occur to me that they would know, but do it anyway

AllisColm · 04/12/2023 08:34

@WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout if you think these countries are bettered by having leaders from their own turf then sadly that is not the usual case. They usually descend into very personal battles with massive corruption issues. Elections are notorious for warring parties offering a financial inducement to voters house by house. I've been there and lived in it.

This whole tale is starting to parody itself now.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstotheyard · 04/12/2023 08:43

@AutumnCrow , you know in crime dramas, how they have a suspects board and lots of red lines connecting different people and events? It feels like we need one of those.

In the James O’Brien interview Scobie talks about how great it is to work with subjects who “get it” and mentioned Kim Kardashian emailing him info that he then printed as coming from to “sources close to Kim” or whatever.

Isn’t that pretty much admitting it’s Harry and/or Meghan?

I certainly think so, AliceOlive, and that M and H pass him information and statements to be put out on twitter, in articles and now via Endgame. They may well use Archewell employees as intermediaries though, as they did when at the Palace. The “source very close to” wording is just inserted to give both of them plausible deniability.

But of course, because of that wording, others will give him the benefit of the doubt. Given his demonstrable loose relationship with the truth however, I do wonder why he gets that benefit.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 04/12/2023 08:51

That’s sad @AllisColm
Corruption is a terrible thing.

Bookworm1111 · 04/12/2023 08:58

I see the headline has changed from 'agent' to 'publisher'.

I’ve been racking my brains, Crow, as to whether the release of Endgame at this time and particularly the Dutch leak give Harry an angle in that hearing …

wonder if he will appear in person?

The whole of last night's Telegraph article is archived on the archive dot ph website. I can add the link to a subsequent post but sometimes it makes MN go a bit funny. Anyway, it gives a bit more context.

I haven't seen any other news sources report the case resuming today, yet.

Also I noticed that in their original “statement” denying involvement in finding freedom it said that no source “close to the duchess” had passed on any information to Scobie. It didn’t say that the duchess herself hadn’t passed on any information 🤷‍♀️
