La Pom Pom Girl is doing the Double Dutch. But who is turning the skipping ropes? Part three/trois/drie of the continuing discussion of Endgame by Omid Scobie. Previous thread:

I shouldn’t think they approve of how he’s treated William and Kate at all. Let alone all the rest of it.

Meghan and Harry could have been utterly fabulous - and made such a difference on the global stage. But instead they threw it all away, and for what. Total idiots, the pair of them. Given how things are going, I do wonder if they regret it.

That's what I think, too. Had she done the "grunt work" for a while she could have found "her" niche and could have made a real mark.
But, no, it had to be top jobs only from the start.

I wonder if Harry didn't warn her that the job involved a lot of ribbon cutting or whether he did and she ignored him.

Also, the Dior story came out at the same time as they were dropped by Spotify and got called 'grifters'. It was a useful distraction. Simply having Meghan's name associated, however vaguely, with a top Paris couture brand like Dior was a positive change of focus.

Also, around that time (summer into early autumn) Dior were dressing Queen Camilla. She wore Dior on the state visit to France.

My guess is that Dior did not want QC to change her mind about what she would be wearing on a trip that would make headlines, leading to prompt disavowal of the rumours.

Yet again strikes the bad luck of the Sussexes.

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 04/12/2023 00:41

Yet again strikes the bad luck of the Sussexes.

Depends. If they put the Dior rumour about themselves, to try to take the shine from Camilla (they have form for doing this with various family members) it's not bad luck, it's what they deserved.

Its a very sad family breakdown that people are making tons of money out of. Not just Scobie but all the Royal commentators, lip readers, paps, any old person who used to work for any ofvthe Royals over 50 years are all making hay out of this.

As indeed, are Harry and Meghan themselves, between various books, interviews and 'documentaries'. The only financial successes they have had in their post-royal life have involved slagging off Harry's family.

The only financial successes they have had in their post-royal life have involved slagging off Harry's family.

Can you back that statement up?

Do we know how much the book, and OW interview made?

Do we know how much money they have in investments and how much that generated?

Do they have a property portfolio?

Etc...

The Times is now saying that Scobie's agent sent the draft with the names. A final draft of the manuscript without the names was subsequently sent but the translator was working off the old draft

So as predicted. One of the individual foreign language licences went awry. Nothing to do with Harper Collins. Under agency principles, the agent is held to be acting for Scobie, so Scobie is liable if other parties take action, civil or contractual. And Scobie saying he has never written in the names is untrue, clearly there was an early draft with the names and other wording included. If he didn’t write that, who did?

This is what i do not understand about Scobie. Why lie about something that is so so easily disproved**? It means your credibility is shot.

** see saying that you got married 2 days privately before you did in front of the world.... saying you did not collaborate on Finding Freedom- oops sorry Your Honour I forgot .. etc etc etc etc

I can't take anything OS PH or MM say at face value. (I am willing to make an exception for the broken necklace and dog bowl though).

Has it occurred to anyone that the draft wasn't actually written by Scobie at all? If it was written by Meghan and or Harry, then sent to Scobie, or was dictated by them and transcribed by someone else, that might explain the error. It may be Scobie edited it , and sent the original to the Dutch publishers by mistake.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 04/12/2023 06:38

@which is what I wondered @Chouxpastryishard . I cannot see how else a private letter and correspondence between the King and MM ended up being in this blasted book.

Mumsnut · 04/12/2023 06:52

I’ve been racking my brains, Crow, as to whether the release of Endgame at this time and particularly the Dutch leak give Harry an angle in that hearing …

wonder if he will appear in person?

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 04/12/2023 07:01

So the lawyers had read the first version and decided using the names would lead to legal repercussions, I imagine some people are currently quite worried.

pilates · 04/12/2023 07:07

I hope they do pursue it. I know the RF’s policy is to rise above but this needs to be stamped on.

miri1985 · 04/12/2023 07:09

I hope the translators pursue action against him, he really threw them under the bus implying they had written the names off their own back.

Sisterpita · 04/12/2023 07:10

So as suspected the most logical reason is what happened - a draft with the names sent for translation then legal review saw the paragraph and names reviewed.

OS has clearly lied again. The silence from H & M, aside from a never wanted the names out there, is now deafening.

AutumnCrow · 04/12/2023 06:45

Meanwhile, PH’s judicial review of Ravec (security) resumes today, according to the Telegraph?

I wonder will Harry be present at this? I presume Charles is still at COP28

But he swore on his family’s life. I’m a firm believer of Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus.

What a numpty he is. He must've known, like his real age, it might come out, yet he lied and lied and lied. He said he never wrote the names in ANY manuscript.

Bookworm1111 · 04/12/2023 07:26

Sisterpita This is why they can't come out with a statement. The names were inserted from day one and it's obvious who confirmed them to him. PH and MM (or perhaps just MM alone) cannot condemn him if they want to remain a protected source.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 04/12/2023 07:30

So the question for me is, if he lied and he did write the names in the draft, who did he get those names from?

If it’s the Sussexes then that will be hard for the RF to forgive, I think, if there was no malice in any alleged discussion.

I think Charles is back in the UK. No idea where H is right now.

AliceOlive · 04/12/2023 07:34

In the James O’Brien interview Scobie talks about how great it is to work with subjects who “get it” and mentioned Kim Kardashian emailing him info that he then printed as coming from to “sources close to Kim” or whatever.

Isn’t that pretty much admitting it’s Harry and/or Meghan?

Yes absolutely. On an earlier thread, I mentioned that Rick Evers (the Dutch reporter) thought it was interesting that OS (in his Dutch TV interview when the revelation of the names first came out) referred to the "production" of his version. This was Rick Ever's GMB interview - he was hinting heavily. He is a very experienced royal reporter.

I don't know if you ever listen to The To Di For podcast, but the guest for the most recent one (a Hollywood entertainment lawyer who also has a podcast) also is musing about collaboration, and avoiding the paper trail mistakes of Finding Freedom. There have been a few commentators over the last few days talking about "a journalist" hanging around various hotels near Montecito. Also references to phraseology in the Dutch version that sounds quite different to the English version - more emotive.

OS himself contradicts himself all the time, saying he has no direct relationship with them, but then going on about how he hung out with Harry and other royals in clubs, that other journalists were snide about him always having the inside track on MM, that he became their trusted journalist (hence he was one of only 3 journalists at MM's last royal engagement), the comforting phone call from Meghan etc etc. The man can't help but name drop. His James O'Brien interview, though friendly, gives away quite a bit.
