La Pom Pom Girl is doing the Double Dutch. But who is turning the skipping ropes? Part three/trois/drie of the continuing discussion of Endgame by Omid Scobie. Previous thread:

Innit though? 🤔

I’m sure there was never going to be an invite. Even if there has been I don’t believe it would ever have been accepted. I think that’s another ploy. Pretend we are willing to make up and then deal the hammer blow. That way they look innocent.

Andarna · 03/12/2023 05:59

@Mylovelygreendress

"The names were also in the Belgium edition ?"

If you mean the Flemish part of Belgium: Flemish is the same language as Dutch with a couple of different words thrown in. A bit like English people being able to read American books. So it's the same translation/book.

Harry and Hughie Grovesnor are/were best mates for decades. Hughie was one of the few friends Harry kept hold of after meeting Meghan and who came to their wedding. It would be seriously unthinkable of him not to have them on the guest list and this will hurt Harry immensely.

That said, based on the Montecito narrative so far, he’ll probably justify it to himself as Wicked William using dark forces to keep him away.

I wonder if he will ever genuinely regret the rift with his family.

No doubt.

Hugh is the King's godson, a friend of & godfather to two future Kings.

Unless he knew that both KC & POW had done something truly awful, why would he choose Harry over them?

And having decided to invite KC it follows that William rather than Harry would be invited doesn't it?

Wonder if Harry ever thought that things would get to this?

YourNameGoesHere · 03/12/2023 07:41

Most likely, I mean this kindly but I don't think either or them have ever admitted they were in the wrong about anything have they? It always seems to be someone else's fault.

Serenster · 03/12/2023 08:29

I too am baffled however none of the Sussex supporters seem to be able to answer that !

Generally I think the line they adopt is that any statements said to come from “friends of the Sussexes” or “a source close to the Sussexes” that express any kind of interest in reconciliation, or suggest/hope for ongoing contact between the family are completely fake. And leaked by the Palace as they realise that they need to pretend they are still linked to Meghan and Harry to get any kind of interest in their own activities.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 03/12/2023 08:33

MaturingCheeseball · 02/12/2023 11:47

The trouble is if the Palace replies, then the Press (and of course social media) will have a field day.

It’s impossible to disprove vague allegations. The only thing you can do is disprove a lot of what else was said.

And the “Katie Keen” thing is a great start at showing the sentiments behind any attack, ie no one has ever heard of this nickname, but Meghan in her own voice has said she was a major fan of this comic. As others have observed, Omid Scobie is British and would be unfamiliar with this comic.

Archie is a character in that comic too. Surely that isn’t who they named their son after?

FinallyFinalGirl · 03/12/2023 08:38

I must be the only one to have heard of Kate being called 'keen'. The Squaddies use the name to mock her for saying she is keen to know or do something, but not going any further with it. One quick Twitter search will show that it has been used for quite a while.

Serenster · 03/12/2023 08:40

Further to my comment above, I see there was an article last April which reports that Meghan’s letter was sent in response to correspondence from Charles, in which he expressed his sadness over the split within the family.

Yes - the existence of the letters was first revealed in an article Victoria Ward in the Telegraph earlier this year. It was generally taken to have come from he Sussexes as they have often given Victoria stories.

It caused a bit of a furore at the time, and we were told that lawyers on both sides were involved, but the story remained up. So it seems whoever gave Victoria the information had authority to reveal the existence of the letters (if someone, say a staff member, had seen and leaked the contents of private correspondence without permission, I have no doubt the story would have been taken down).

Victoria Ward’s article was also changed quite a lot in the 24 hours or so after it was first published. A sentence in the first version that described the alleged racism incident as something Meghan agreed was an “innocuous comment” and “made without malice” was removed. And a new sentence was added saying how appallingly Meghan and Harry were treated by the Royal family. So it was quite clear who was holding the pen behind the scenes.

Maybe on X that is the case, but Scobie said it was a nick name widely used by palace aides as well. In that case it would surely have got in to the mainstream as well 🤷‍♀️

@BethDuttonsTwin

I am challenging posters on this thread who are throwing pretty wild accusations around, presenting as fact their own notions and opinions.

There are also a lot of really horrible things being hoped for against two people with a young family.

it reads a lot like pure malice. And yes, I will speak up when I have the energy.

@EnoughIsay
’…pure malice..? I am absolutely entitled to give my thoughts on this subject, regardless of what you think.
Malice is the last thing on my mind, unlike yours evidently 🤷🏼‍♀️

My word that Times article!

Meghan 'misremembering ' 'soap Oprah'

The wind is blowing

The Times is being pretty clever here, reminding people that M never 'intended' her letters to be made public (so how and who did OS get them) them reminding people that she's 'forgotten' things before; in court, no less. She denied she'd 'intended' that, as well.

Sources close to the Sussexes have attempted to distance the couple from the book and insisted that the duchess, who named the two royals in a letter to Charles, never intended them to be publicly identified, nor was the letter leaked to Scobie by anyone close to her.
In 2021 <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/plzr8/www.thetimes.co.uk/topic/meghan-markle" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Meghan apologised to a court for not remembering she had authorised an aide to give Scobie information for his Finding Freedom biography of the Sussexes and denied she had intended to mislead the court or the defendant.

Maireas · 03/12/2023 08:51

@FinallyFinalGirl - how cruel that certain people are using that term to mock Kate. It's possible to support Harry and Meghan without lowering yourself to name calling Kate. How juvenile.

Maireas · 03/12/2023 08:53

Thank you for that, @Serenster . How intriguing that key sentence was removed. Interesting too about who they feed information to.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstotheyard · 03/12/2023 08:55

It's that annoying form of misogyny - the uptight, conformist girl versus the earthy, bohemian, mad pixie girl - the trope of a hell of a lot of Hollywood output over the decades.

In another surreal twist, Scobie has attracted the ire of some Swifties on X.

There's a story about it in the Mail Online today. It's one of those formulaic pieces from a show biz journalist that is so bad it's ... just bad.

(Apparently Scobie claims she snubbed Charles's coronation concert and the Swifties are pointing out that Taylor Swift was on tour in the US. This is disrespectful to Swift.)

He's toast if the Swifties are after him!!

A podcaster I watched yesterday said Scobie was the one that said that Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran turned down the Coronation concert - thus fuelling the "Charles is unpopular" narrative and the "they are team H&M" narrative. It turns out neither were asked (Sheeran has confirmed he wasn't) and TS wouldn't have been able to because of the tour. I understand the people who were asked to perform were involved in some way with the (then) Princes Trust. There was a lot of crowing on this board about the lack of big stars iirc.

I have been amusing myself pondering if either of the parties involved in the correspondence would release it. I currently think Charles won’t because he’d consider it private (and Meghan could then sue him for breach of copyright!) and Meghan won’t because it would likely then reveal what the alleged words really were - I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there’s more malice in the speculation than the reality.

These unnamed 'palace aides' are going an awful lot of heavy lifting on Scobie's behalf.

Indeed. Also, how curious that you'd be a "palace aid" yet act and talk like you hate the RF and support the Sussexes. Most odd.

more malice in the speculation than in the reality
That's a very good point, @Serenster .
Speculation can be weaponised.

Scobie's own tweets on the day don't seem to fit into that narrative terribly well.
