La Pom Pom Girl is doing the Double Dutch. But who is turning the skipping ropes? Part three/trois/drie of the continuing discussion of Endgame by Omid Scobie. Previous thread:

I am completely lost with all of this. Why would MM write a letter to Charles exposing the 2 racist people when one of them was him. Maybe it is just the way the press have worded it but it sounds strange.

I thought that too. Wouldn’t she have written to HMQE, the head of the RF, who was still alive at the time of the Oprah interview?

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/12/2023 20:27

Gosh finally caught up on all of these threads. Thanks for starting them @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstotheyard. I read the chapter on QEII linked upthread. Pretty irritating, boring and sycophantic writing style. Idk if I could persuade myself to read the whole book. I’d love to be a fly on the wall in Montecito.

He'll end up in court and backed into a corner I reckon he'd sing like a canary.

i agree. Journalists should protect their sources and most journos would refuse to give evidence on the stand for that exact reason. Many will even rather go to jail than give up a source. This one? No hope

Scoobydoobywho · 02/12/2023 20:35

I'm completely baffled as to no-one seems to be quering as to if the Royal Family were so horrible and allegedly racist towards Meghan, why did Harry and Meghan want to be half in half out. Surely you'd want to be as far away from them as possible.

The Duke of Westminster is George's godfather. Is he Archie's as well?

PH said to James Corden on the bus interview, “It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down.”

He also stressed how he and M had wanted to create new roles for themselves “within” the institution, while continuing to perform some official duties.

I know if they were even half as bad as is described in Spare or Endgame I'd be running a mile from them and incredibly glad to be halfway across the world rather than fishing for invitations.

I can understand Charles wanting to see his Grandkids and extending an invitation because of that, also the cousins were fairly unscathed in the books. But if I was Camilla, William, Kate or even Anne (who was blamed for getting them evicted in Endgame) I don't think I could stomach spending time with them

Crispedia · 02/12/2023 20:47

having the names revealed as two people who had a close and affectionate relationship with Harry at the time (and one being the person who warmly welcomed Meghan and walked her down the aisle) makes me think that the comments were far less likely to have unkind intent.

The Dutch translation with the extra paragraph I believe is said to have said the King in his letter of reply to Meghan expressed his sorrow that she felt upset but stressed there was no 'ill will or casual prejudice' on any part with
according to an 'insider' Charles wanting to 'clear up something he felt strongly about.'

I too am baffled however none of the Sussex supporters seem to be able to answer that !

So not only was Meg's letter to the King leaked to Scobie...but his reply to her was also leaked. It's almost as if she showed him the letters herself Hmm

Wouldn't the Dutch language version also be published there, given that half the country speaks Dutch?

AliceOlive · 02/12/2023 21:14

Wow, that article smarts.

AliceOlive · 02/12/2023 21:20

That’s got to be a shot over the bow. Not invited and revealing Archie’s godparents. In the Times, no less.

My word that Times article!

Meghan 'misremembering ' 'soap Oprah'

The wind is blowing

Right? Laughing at Megs wanting to stay away from the soap opera when she’s the one that created it.

Further to my comment above, I see there was an article last April which reports that Meghan’s letter was sent in response to correspondence from Charles, in which he expressed his sadness over the split within the family.
Their letters are also said to make clear the identity of the senior royal who made the comment, with both Meghan and Charles acknowledging that the remark was not made maliciously, according to the paper.

Innit though? 🤔

snowbird21 · 02/12/2023 23:52

I think the headlines and title for the issue is wrong - using the phrase "royal racists" is not accurate. It makes the assumption that something was said that was racist - in the Queen's statement she said "recollections may vary." No one knows what was said unless they were there - we don't know the spouse or context - in fact it appears that there was two people I the conversation so only those two know. It was a private conversation, people remember and reshape things differently at times. I do not believe there are racist comments made and I don't think the RF need to do anything about this, I think it is good the fact that the names of individuals are in the open as there no sword of Damocles hanging over them.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/12/2023 00:01

I am coming round to the theory that we have heard nothing from the Sussexes because they are embarrassed by such a book being written by their cheerleader and have finally learnt that silence makes the story go away faster

Let's hope so, @MrsLeonFarrell; as I said earlier, presumably even they're capable of learning and if they really haven't colluded this time they're hardly to blame for what the ghastly Scobie chooses to do

Tezza1 · 03/12/2023 01:04

@BethDuttonsTwin Actually, I think one would be quite Justified living one's life by many of Raylan G's classic quotes.
