So who are the 2 royals who commented on Archie's skin now that Piers Morgan has named them on live tv

M&H already said in the first place that comments weren’t racist, the comments were never described as “concerns” either. The media has done a top job of making something out of nothing in this case.

There were also plenty of articles at the time covering cultural differences between UK/US on this type of thing as well eg I wonder if baby will have lighter skin like Harry or darker skin like Meghan. In the UK this is an absolutely normal and non racist question, like wondering if a baby will have curly hair or blue eyes.

flowerchild2000 · 29/11/2023 22:12

Helloooo they are all racist. Everyone knows that!

You can't possibly know that.

Karmakamelion · 29/11/2023 22:48

Trust me if a woman of colour perceives something as racist it generally is. I find it hilarious (!) when a white person tries to tell me what is and isn't racist.
Racists don't all walk around with white pointy hats and burning crosses you know

GrazingSheep · 29/11/2023 22:48

@Yekaterinap
Also Princess Michael of Kent.

Okay so Philip, Harry and Princess Michael of Kent. Anyone else?

tachetastic · 29/11/2023 22:49

People have different skin colours. Fact of life. This should be celebrated, surely?

Why should recognising this be seen as a bad thing, unless the context is to expressly make it a negative?

Let's assume the best until we're proved wrong, rather than the opposite.

I don't believe for a second that Kate said something racist.

Someone clearly has it out for Kate...

Actually it seems a few people have it out for Kate.

Harry seems to have his own issue with her as well. My own theory is he had a crush on her, and hoped to find a similar wife. That hasn't really worked out.

do you know her personally? Is she your friend? You only see picture and videos from them where they are working and following royal protocol , you don't know how they are in real life.. she might not be racist but she might be one.

FreshWinterMorning · 29/11/2023 22:49

Choux · 29/11/2023 22:11

Thanks for saving me a Google.

Not sure how big a deal that is. Context is everything. If it was the only comment that's very different to saying ' I wonder if he'll have red hair like H or dark hair like M? I wonder if he'll be pasty like H or darker skinned like M?' Or were the exact words published?

100% guarantee this is something like what was said. Of course, it has been wildly blown out of proportion. 🙄 As it always is!

That's if anything was actually said! Wink

MoreStormyWeather · 29/11/2023 22:50

None of us know what was said as we were not there. I find taking either side ridiculous.

If there was any conversation showing ‘concern’ (which I think was how Harry/Meghan said it seemed to be) about a child’s skin colour, then that is racist and awful. We will probably never know the truth so it’s pointless. I know they’re not worrying about any issues in my family tonight and they’re irrelevant to most people’s lives at this point, so it’s nothing more than something for us to gossip over.

RoseAndRose · 29/11/2023 22:51

Lacoutine · 29/11/2023 22:44

Why is everyone believing that (a) OS knows who the two were (if there were two) and (b) that the “leak” in the Netherlands was based on something OS actually wrote?
Soon after the Oprah interview I was talking to someone who is friends with the William and Harry set from when they were running around London in their twenties - they said who they had heard it was (just one person at that point 🤔) and it wasn’t the King or Kate.
And as many PPs have said already it was just idle chit chat as to would the baby have red hair or dark hair.

a) well if it's wrong, then will H&M (M in particular as the letter was to her, and the comments about Kate avoiding the subject can only come from her) set the record straight?

b) if it's not based on what OS wrote, who the hell did write the version that was passed to the Dutch for translation? Because even if you insist that the first bit naming Charles was a "translation error" (highly unlikely, IMO because even though the English prose is a bit tortuous it's not that unclear), then you still have the snag about naming Catherine as she is not mentioned at all in that passage in the English version.

Yekaterinap · 29/11/2023 22:43

Have they gone on record saying something racist? I thought the only blatant racist was harry!😂

Maybe you should expand your horizons, read something other than gossip.

FlowerBarrow · 29/11/2023 22:51

I think the original M & H comments specifically said it wasn’t expressed as a “concern”

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2023 22:51

StuartSheehyisBack · 29/11/2023 22:43

Exactly the same in mine. Especially the Jamaican in-laws, they were very vocal they hoped the children would not have ginger afros

Kate was worried her nephew would have ginger afro?

Don't worry Kate, he'll grow out of it by the time he's 25 and can either ask Dad who he recommends for a hair transplant or he can be a proud slap head like his Uncle.

What was all the drama about?

How so?

Stresa22 · 29/11/2023 22:52

I think Kate is so insanely jealous of Duchess Megan that she started dressing like her and spread false rumours about her.

GrazingSheep · 29/11/2023 22:53

@Yekaterinap
I suppose if you look at the issues around the ‘Colonials and Natives’ party at which Harry wore the infamous Nazi costume, then you would have to wonder what Prince William was thinking to also go, albeit dressed as a leopard

I agree with this too although I'm very, very cautious to verbalise this because of the "one drop rule". But I am BAME myself and my daughter mixed race (DH white). I can categorically say that the racism half-white kids get is not comparable to what fully ethnic kids get. It's often the reverse...people love to fetishise and put mixed race children on a pedestal, especially if they are physically beautiful. Everywhere they go, they constantly hear people, often complete strangers, telling them how gorgeous they look. It's very bizarre. I absolutely believe that mixed race kids can perceive racist experiences and be affected on a deep level by those. However this would also depend a lot on socio-economic factors. Meghan's white-passing appearance, wealth and the elite circles she moves in makes it hard to believe that she is truly subject to racist abuse and slurs in the same way an economically disadvantaged African-american girl would be.

NewFriendlyLadybird · 29/11/2023 22:53

Time4the · 29/11/2023 22:19

I think Meghan is so insanely jealous of Kate she’d say anything.

Really? I’ve seen this narrative but I don’t understand it. Why would Meghan be jealous of Kate? I mean, why?

Palmolive22 · 29/11/2023 22:54

Interesting . Racist to believe that whites don’t suffer racism. Racist to jump on something innocent (will the baby have ginger hair? Brown eyes? Pinky white skin or darker skin? Innocent questions) and say it’s racist. Sow divisions, where there were none, that’s racist too. L

WobblyCat · 29/11/2023 22:54

If it's true, I'm not surprised things will never be repaired or that they've not been able to bury the hatchet. It is insanely obvious that KC and PC will never see how wrong they are.

Context is NOT everything. You don't comment on someone else's child's skintone at all. It isn't anyone else's place. Any time I've been in that position, the diplomatic response is "I'm sure they will be perfect regardless." They are royals, surely they know that?!

seenisambol · 29/11/2023 22:55

I've spent quite a bit of time among the aristocracy and believe me the racism would make your hair curl. The younger generations are better but I've heard racial slurs used by them too. It's hardly surprising as the whole thing is based on bloodlines. When Kate and William got engaged I overheard plenty of horrible conversations about her breeding (or lack of).

BethDuttonsTwin · 29/11/2023 22:55

Boomboom22 · 29/11/2023 22:47

Ok my theory.
When they met Harry told Megan how great Kate is and how much she'll love her, how alike they are. Then when k and m do meet k os reserved and British and m is overly eager and open in that American way, like Jamie on I'm a celebrity comes across weird to British. M is hurt. H is confused. The feud starts. W backs k obviously and h doesn't get it. W is well aware h loves k too but has no sympathy. Thinks m is a gold digger.

This!

Because Kate Is top dog and she was never going to be seeing as she married the spare.

mantyzer · 29/11/2023 22:56

I knew MN would be full of white people saying there was no racism.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 29/11/2023 22:56

when I first saw a pic of of Megan Markle I had no idea that she was mixed race.

CantFigureItOut · 29/11/2023 22:57

I do think it's normal to wonder just as you might say, is the baby going to be ginger? Which, by the way, I find it weird how people are happy to denigrate ginger hair when obviously doing same for skin colour is not ok.

I did wonder aloud how my dc has dark brown eyes when mine are blue and dh green. Gcse science failed me there!
