Helloooo they are all racist. Everyone knows that!

Really ? What is your evidence ? The only confirmed royal racist is Harry but you may know different !?

Izzy54321 · 29/11/2023 22:57

According to MM there was 2 conversations PH said there was 1. Harry said no racism MM said said there was. They cannot even get their stories straight.

The conversation apparently took place before they were even engaged, so how could they be talking about Archie a child no where near being in existence.

Also we have zero context or even proof the conversation even took place.

As a mixed heritage person I’ve had all kinds of conversations about who my children may look like. My Grandchildren are all different too did I think it was racist absolutely not, no matter who you are we all talk about how any children may look more like one parent over another.

I feel bad for King Charles and Princess Catherine they will be tarred with the racism brush without proof or evidence.

I wish we had context for the actual discussion that happened.

My cousin has mixed race children. It was a running thing in the family (on all sides) as to what the children would look like when they were born and who's skin tone and features they would inherit. They were first grandkids for the dads family, who are not Caucasian. There was absolutely nothing racist about these chats or comments.

100% This

I knew MN would be full of white people saying there was no racism.

It depends what you define as racism. The word is being thrown around too often now, people are sick of it.

I personally think Meghan is conflating a few different things that she will have experienced - class expectations, social expectations, xenophobia (which would have impacted a white American too) and actual racism.

I’m not saying she didn’t experience racism. She clearly did from some newspapers. But I think many of the major issues between her and the royal family are to do with the former things rather than racism. I’d be very surprised if Kate would say anything racist even in private. But I’m sure she will have strong expectations around politeness, class, social behaviour and British cultural norms that would feel very ‘othering’ for someone from a different country and culture.

The simpletons are out already!
Every family expecting a baby discuss the baby's possible characteristics, ginger hair, grandfather's big ears and in every mixed race family skin tone has been discussed. Who's speaking out for the gingers and the big-eared people, don't their great sensitivities matter?

FlowerBarrow · 29/11/2023 22:48

M&H already said in the first place that comments weren’t racist, the comments were never described as “concerns” either. The media has done a top job of making something out of nothing in this case.

There were also plenty of articles at the time covering cultural differences between UK/US on this type of thing as well eg I wonder if baby will have lighter skin like Harry or darker skin like Meghan. In the UK this is an absolutely normal and non racist question, like wondering if a baby will have curly hair or blue eyes.

Meghan said there were concerns.

@Yekaterinap MN is full of racism anyway. I know many here do not recognise even obvious racism.

the whole thread made me laugh tyvm

This is the most sensible and I feel accurate analysis I have seen of this whole mess.

What people? The people lacking in empathy and emotional intelligence? Yes, I’d agree with you on that one.

Exactly. It's thrown around so much now, and often for very little, that when someone yells 'racism!' to a white person, it's like white noise. People are being accused of being racists right now for not liking Nella off I'm A Celebrity. She is a pampered princess and a goady trouble maker, who refuses to listen to anyone's viewpoint but her own, and she is lazy and annoying. But noooo, if you don't like her - it's because of her skin colour. 🙄

Calgo · 29/11/2023 23:02

DH’s aunt literally said your kids will be gorgeous the first time I met her (on account of being mixed race - can’t say I fully get why this was assumed). I mean she wasn’t wrong.

TheUsualChaos · 29/11/2023 23:02

Taking any of this sort of thing with a massive pinch of salt. Feel like they could have simply said something complementary like "oh his skin tone is beautiful" and H&M would have still taken it the wrong way. Equally W&C probably do the same with everything H&M say. The difference is that they don't reveal any of it publicly. Just feels like one of situations where the brothers don't get on anymore, parent is stuck in the middle and probably very disappointed at some of the behaviour and no one can say anything without winding the others up. Best H&M just get on with their life and stop stirring but a quiet life doesn't make money.

It was Meghan who raised the conversations as concerns in the Oprah interview and then dragged Harry into the conversation. They couldn't even agree between them what was said or when. She absolutely encouraged Oprah to understand it as racism. Both she and Harry then said they would never reveal the names as it would be 'devastating' for the people involved.

Harry has since dialled it back to 'not racism but unconscious bias'. Scobie has been describing the second person as 'not a member of the Royal family but a member of the Royal household and close to the RF' Not sure how that fits with Charles and Catherine.

There's no way this has been released in error- the names have to have been in the text for them to have been printed. He claims he wrote and edited only the English version. The foreign versions were translated from the English version so the names were in whatever edit of the English version they were translated from. It's a deliberate attempt to discredit Charles and Catherine even further.

I think it's vile really. For Harry to go along with this is disgusting. The only reason is to discredit his father and sister-in-law and hurt William. Very sad. He and Meghan have no credibility at all in my view and I'll leave it at that. Scobie is not worth commenting on.

PM is especially needy, naming on tv for attention. OS is one of those vile PR types who also seek validation and love through likes. Just grow the fuck up, everyone.

Trust me if a woman of colour perceives something as racist it generally is. I find it hilarious (!) when a white person tries to tell me what is and isn't racist.
Racists don't all walk around with white pointy hats and burning crosses you know

As a woman of colour, my personal experience is that it's not always that easy to determine what truly motivates someone's behaviour towards you. Occasionally the rudeness is clear cut so that's not difficult. But other times something just feels "off" and you can't put your finger on it. I've experienced people being less friendly towards me compared to others, or dismissing me out of their circle of interaction for inexplicable reasons. I know that neurodivergent people often feel this too, for some reason you can tell someone doesn't like you even though you have done nothing to trigger them.

For those less blatant forms of animosity, I often tell myself "it's probably racism" as a lazy fallback. When in truth I honestly don't know. Maybe they don't click with my personality, maybe they are extremely busy with their own lives, maybe they are jealous of something I have, I have no idea. So I don't really subscribe to the idea that POC can immediately sense that actions against them are 100% racially motivated. Especially if we're talking social interactions with acquaintances, colleagues, basically people who know much more about you than just your physical appearance. There are hundreds of factors that could come into play, and bar someone calling you a racist slur to your face, you genuinely can never know for sure.

Calgo · 29/11/2023 23:04

Surely there is no coming back from this for H and M. Exposing Kate to this level of scrutiny (warranted or not) I assume is unforgivable for Wills.

stemmedroses · 29/11/2023 23:05

Why are people presuming the conversation was a general interest chat about who the baby might look like. Maybe Charles or Kate said they hoped the baby wasn't "too" black.
Why automatically jump to the defence of the Royal Family?

FreshWinterMorning · 29/11/2023 23:05

@Stresa22 · Today 22:52

I think Kate is so insanely jealous of Duchess Megan that she started dressing like her and spread false rumours about her.

😂 You're funny! 😆 As if Kate is jealous of Meghan. Meghan has literally NOTHING that Kate wants.

Oh but Kate has everything Meghan wants. Oh yes! Grin

mantyzer · 29/11/2023 23:05

So in summary racism does not exist and is all that brown woman's fault Meghan who we all thought was white anyway?

This thread is such a mess and so much racism.
