It depends what you define as racism. The word is being thrown around too often now, people are sick of it.

What people? The people lacking in empathy and emotional intelligence? Yes, I’d agree with you on that one.

No love, lots of people 'of colour' are sick of being used to push certain agendas and are also sick of being described as 'of colour'.

MoreStormyWeather · 29/11/2023 23:05

the comments were never described as “concerns” either.

They were in the Oprah interview.

I think Kate is so insanely jealous of Duchess Megan that she started dressing like her and spread false rumours about her.

😂 You're funny! 😆 As if Kate is jealous of Meghan. Meghan has literally NOTHING that Kate wants.

Oh but Kate has everything Meghan wants. Oh yes! Grin

what does kate have? 😂

@Yekaterinap MN is full of racism anyway. I know many here do not recognise even obvious racism.

It's like pulling teeth.

OhNoOhNo · 29/11/2023 23:07

User5442525 · 29/11/2023 22:10

It's Charles and Kate!!! Quick Twitter search reveals that.
Quite unexpected...always thought the second one could have been Prince Philipp or a more minor Royal.

There is literally no going back for M&H now. Basically told the world that the current King and future Queen of England are racists. It seems to imply that Charles made the comment about skin colour. I really wonder what Kate did or said that was racist, or perceived to be racist by Meghan. It would be a stretch to assume she used slurs, as that would have been insinuated a long time ago on some TV interview.

Only on MN could Kate making a potentially racist comment about a baby's skin colour be twisted into 'no going back for Megan and Harry now'.

drowninginjelly · 29/11/2023 23:07

caringcarer · 29/11/2023 22:14

I don't believe either King Charles or Princess Catherine are racists. I think Meghan hated Princess Catherine so much she'd say anything to get her discredited if she could.

I have a gut feeling that Kate who had her eye on the prize from the start and who was never going to give an inch slyly says lots of micro aggressions about a lot of people. Plants little seeds of negative thoughts. I don't think she's very nice. Calculating people rarely are.

I suspect the bridesmaids' tights row was the nail.in the coffin for Kate and Meghan. We don't know exactly what happened, but we know from Meghan on Oprah that Kate brought her flowers afterwards and we know from Harry that he came home to find Meghan sobbing on the floor. Not sure if the flowers preceded the sobbing or vice versa.

She’s an actress, I imagine she sat on the floor as soon as she heard the car on the drive, and the key in the door.

Its all vindictive nonsense, and there is no coming back from this for the ex’s

Calgo · 29/11/2023 23:08

I agree with a PP who noticed Kate upped her style after Meghan joined the family. She doesn’t dress solely in coat dresses anymore. And Kate now wears bags with handles not just clutches.

Sadly they were always going to be pitted against each other.

Palmolive22 · 29/11/2023 22:54

Interesting . Racist to believe that whites don’t suffer racism. Racist to jump on something innocent (will the baby have ginger hair? Brown eyes? Pinky white skin or darker skin? Innocent questions) and say it’s racist. Sow divisions, where there were none, that’s racist too. L

When was the last time you asked/discussed with a white, pregnant woman or their partner what their unborn child's potential skin tone might be?

@User5442525 You don't think a well known UK presenter refering to her baby as a monkey because she's mixed race was actually racist? Or Twitter suggesting she was "ghetto"? Do you not feel that's on par with racism a famous black mother might receive? I don't think we can compare apples with oranges though and bring socio-economic backgrounds into it.

No one would know I had the hard racial slurs thrown at me as a child either. I still lived it in an area you wouldn't have thought that I did, even if I don't experience it often now. When I do, it is not always so direct. You are going to need to prepare your children if they are not completely white passing that they will be in spaces where they are treated differently/not accepted for their skin colour, whether they do experience the racism the same as you or not.

Outofmydepthnow · 29/11/2023 23:08

I can't get why this is so strange ... Isa's married to a Malaysian .. my mum mused about what colour her grandchildren would be.,as did I ... their very white mother !!

drowninginjelly · 29/11/2023 23:08

Josette77 · 29/11/2023 22:24

I don't believe for a second that Kate said something racist.

Someone clearly has it out for Kate...

Actually it seems a few people have it out for Kate.

Harry seems to have his own issue with her as well. My own theory is he had a crush on her, and hoped to find a similar wife. That hasn't really worked out.

That's such a weird overinvested theory you have there

Changednayme · 29/11/2023 23:09

Yeah I doubt it was racism more just a comment

rowanrome · 29/11/2023 23:09

I'm in a mixed race marriage, my husband is white and Asian heritage and I'm very fair. We discussed what our children would look like all the time when I was pregnant with our children as did our families. Does that make us racist or just me because I'm white? It's all ridiculous.

As has been said, context is everything.

This. I wonder if it was said but twisted to fit a racist vibe. My daughter's father and I are both Hispanic. I'm olive skinned and he is very very pale skinned. We and family often wondered will she be darker like me or whiter like him.

mantyzer · 29/11/2023 23:10

@rowanrome so you didn't express concern over how brown your child might be?
That is the allegation.

How did Meghan end up feeling so much hatred towards these people, whose family she was in for all of five minutes? She just seems so vengeful. At some point in the not too distant future their children will become very aware of their parents being no-contact with BOTH sides of the family and that they make their living publicly criticising them. That’s a strange way to live.

You may well ask what they did for her to dislike them so much hmm?

Why are people presuming the conversation was a general interest chat about who the baby might look like.
Maybe Charles or Kate said they hoped the baby wasn't "too" black.
Why automatically jump to the defence of the Royal Family?
To be fair, whilst some have defended the RF, a lot of people haven't so much defended the royal family as said that context is key.
It's sensible to reserve judgement until someone actually comes out with a clear set of allegations, instead of drip drip dripping suggestions that allow people (especially those with a strong sense of loyalty to "their side") to create their own narrative.

I'm very cynical and think that this drip drip dripping of half allegations is being done deliberately and I'd have more respect for them if they clearly and simply made their claims instead of doing lots of insinuating followed by clarification ls about what they did/didn't mean, did/didn't technically say.

mantyzer · 29/11/2023 23:12

@Myfabby you are probably right.
Anyway I am going to bed. I haven't the patience for all the faux naive racism. See you on the next thread of a golly is just a doll.

TeenLifeMum · 29/11/2023 23:12

When my ginger, freckle faced best friend’s Nigerian black wife got pregnant with their baby one of our early conversations was around the baby’s likely skin and hair colour. None of the conversation was routed in racism just pure fascination of genetics. The couple were as fascinated as I was. She’s utterly gorgeous. None of us mentioned a preference just curiosity similar to when we spoke about whether my own dc would get dh’s striking blue eyes.

from what Harry said, I got the impression that was the angle of the conversation about Archie’s potential skin colour. But then I’ve not read Scoobie’s book. Why is anyone giving him airtime?
