The pretty outright targetting of Kate is not a good look, is it?

The online SussexSquad types are loud, but I'm not sure how numerous they are. Are they enough of a target market to make the book sell well? Maybe.

But from what has been revealed so far it looks like this is just going to generate sympathy for the Royals.

Piers Morgan saying in The Sun that he did not have the conversation La Pom Pom alleges he had with Camilla.

Had to laugh this morning at the review which describes the book as "a hit job reading like a Mumsnet post about the world's worst in-laws". 😂

The backlash against Scobie is deservedly harsh. The more I read of the extracts, the clearer it is that he has a misogynist agenda to belittle, denigrate and humiliate Camilla and Kate. He claims to abhor tabloid coverage – as do his cowriters PH and MM – but is happy to repeat old gossip and slurs about them both and present it as fact.

The only saving grace is that this is him done.

On twitter (X) there seems to be extremist support for both Kate/William and conversely Harry/Meghan. You only have to follow mainstream Royal reporters for this stuff to come into your feed. Both sides are shockingly vitriolic in their hatred of each other. Some real nasty stuff on both sides.

This book seems to be taking the extreme hatred of Kate/William etc. and putting it out into the mainstream, via a respected publishing house.

Harry and Meghan really need to publicly distance themselves from this - as it is nothing short of the sort of online bullying and trolling that they have said they want to eliminate from the media/online world.

If they don't distance, people will assume they endorse. In a court they admitted they provided information for his first book. They regularly give Omid 'press releases' first - he announces a lot of their stuff first to the media (from their spokes people).

This is a spectacular own goal.

Think you can apply that to many of their pronouncements.

Harry: William saw I was in a bad way and got me into therapy which really helped.

Harry: Meghan's mental health but we had nowhere to go to get help.

Surely even Harry might have considered getting help for Meghan with his own therapist?

Reading the review in The Times, I don't think Scobie accuses Catherine of being the royal racist. He says that Charles in his letter to Meghan suggested she talk to Catherine which in the context I took as a suggestion that Catherine could provide advice and support.

I could be wrong though and I won't be reading the book, it sounds an excruciating read, for the prose style alone. The Times review called Scobie mean which is probably a good summary of the book going by his interviews.

If nothing else book reviewers are having fun today.

It’s all just so unedifying. It’s crass, spiteful and unkind. What kind of person enjoys writing such awful trash and then making money out of it?

His face gives me major uncanny valley. Younger photos of him show him looking significantly more mixed-race (his mother is Persian I think) but he's attempted to turn himself entirely caucasian looking. That in itself is very disturbing. There has to be so much (self) loathing and hate inside this individual to turn gossip and spite into a whole career.

And the fact that M&H willingly associate with someone like this speaks bounds.

The kind of person who doesn't give a toss about the people involved or the impact his writing will have but is wise to the fact that this has potentially given him a lifetime of publicity and the money that comes with it. When the current crop of older royal commentators drop off the media know they can call him up at the drop of a hat to say something that will be newsworthy or appeal to their demographic. It's like a band with a Xmas number 1.

I wonder how Catherine is feeling today ? To have so much spite thrown at her and unable to answer back . Thank goodness she has a strong marriage and family support.

Wonder if Scobie will be signed up for IACGMOOH ??

They need to do some serious work to repair the damage but are so dumb they think a disclaimer will work

I imagine she's relieved the book's spiteful narrative is being roundly trashed and people are defending her. But I also imagine she's deeply saddened to know the misogyny has been driven by the BIL she once adored.

It's hard to believe that after all his posturing about the way the tabloids treated his mum, he's wilfully incited the same kind of coverage to be aimed at Kate.

It seems like they cannot legitimately do that, their fingerprints are all over it.

So something I've just been reminded of is that Meghan allegedly leaked some court documents during her libel case against the Mail via OS. And the judge said that there is no other way OS could have got the docs. Citation is from the Sun, but it's just reporting what the judge said rather than opinion:

Mr Justice Warby today ruled the identities of Meghan’s friends must remain confidential “in the interests of justice” – saying the decision had been made “for the time being”.

However, in a judgment released today, he said there was evidence that Meghan's side had "briefed the press" about the initial application to stop her friends from being publicly named during the High Court case.

Mr Justice Warby said reporter Mr Scobie - who is set to release a biography about the couple next week - tweeted about the application just 58 minutes after they were filed.

In the 20-page document, Mr Justice Warby said the application to stop the naming of Meghan's five friends was filed at 8.32am, with Mr Scobie tweeting the file's cover page at 9.30am on July 9.

The tweet said: "Lawyers for Duchess Meghan have filed a court order to stop the Mail from printing the names of five confidential potential witnesses.
"A close source says, '[This] is only being done so the Mail can target five innocent women through the pages of its newspapers and its website'."

Mr Justice Warby said in his judgment: "The inference invited is that he had been provided with a copy by representatives of the claimant.
"This seems very likely."

I'm not sure why anyone thinks MM is not the main source material for Endgame.

Crikey! I mean, I don't think anyone doubts that MM is his main collaborator but to have a High Court judge say it is incredible.

Bloody hell ! that is so damaging, I never saw that at the time.

Just to be clear, @Bookworm1111 the book referred to in that extract is Finding Freedom, rather than Endgame. But it does indicate that OS and MM had/have a relationship, taking into account all thee incidences and his own words about her phoning him up to offer comfort.

So that is two separate instances, in court, she was found out to be collaborating with Omid ?.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. It does indicate a significant collaboration that may well be continuing.

There is a chance, though, that they've had to help him this time because he has them over a barrel. I bet he's kept every email/text/voice note and if they hadn't briefed him with the information he wanted, they know he could potentially use that info against them.

The blackmail threats resurfacing again 😦.

’Scobie also warns that there remains much of Meghan’s “full story” about her “grim experiences behind palace walls” to reveal if she chooses.

While the couple’s documentaries and books have already revealed a “shocking amount”, he writes: “There are still things the couple has not shared.”

The couple, he claims, retain the power to reveal more about the “dismal record” of the Royal family’s treatment of women who married in, whom they allegedly view as “ultimately disposable”.
