I'm not sure what is the correct etiquette for carrying on a thread, but here we are. Thanks to @BoxedandRibboned for the original thread.

Someone who is “coachable” is by definition self-reflecting, open to feedback and willing to grow and develop. The fact that Omid thinks of that as a term that belittles the Princess of Wales says an awful lot.

Serenster · 27/11/2023 18:59

I mean, even Novak Djokovich has a coach and he’s the most self-confident, high-achieving tennis player in the world. And he still believes he needs feedback to show him how he can become better.

megletthesecond · 27/11/2023 18:59

"Coachable" ie; smart enough to realise she has a lot to learn in her role. Unlike some people who apparently turned their nose up at guidance and look how that ended up.

Harry & Meghan are at the mercy of Scobie now. He's got the gossip he wants and will throw them under the bus. What a bloody mess.

tattychicken · 27/11/2023 18:59

And the "not like strong minded Diana" thing is a bit misleading. Diana gave years of service, turning up when required, opening ceremonies , hand shaking etc. There is no parallel between the years she gave and the 5 minutes that M and H served as a couple.

ArcaneWireless · 27/11/2023 19:01

Omid is nae mair than a gowk.

And a gowk that has gone too far with opinions that should never have reached his ears.

Some just can’t help themselves.

CormorantStrikesBack · 27/11/2023 19:01

Well either Harry and Meghan collaborated with Scobie on the book or he’s made a load of bullshit up. Otherwise where is he get his information from?

some stuff I think Harry has told him. Such as moaning that Charles has his toothpaste squeezed out for him. Other stuff I think Scobie has just made up. I don’t think Will has rung him up and told him Kate shudders if Megan’s name is mentioned and Kate will hardly have shuddered infront of Harry.

its nasty and toxic. Saying that Kate carries out so few engagements she’s part time. Well yes, she is bringing up 3 primary age kids. She’s allowed to be part time of she wants. It’s not exactly a Mon-Fri 9-5 job. Even the Queen took a few months off every summer to go to Balmoral.

If Scobie has gone rogue and made it all up I’m assuming Harry and Meghan will issue a statement distancing themselves from their former PR spokesperson? The current silence is deafening.

COMPLETELY off topic: Arcane can you please tell me what Gowk means?! I read a fantastic book series with a character called The Gowk ('twas set in an alternative Glasgow) and I know I was missing a lot of what I was supposed to think of him by not knowing what it means!

I remember about 1986/7 Diana coming to open a shopping centre in a town near me which can only be described as a shit hole. It was a miserable wet Tuesday. It was then I realised royal life was actually a bit boring and shit. I also remember thinking about her leaving her young dcs for such a crap job.

ArcaneWireless · 27/11/2023 19:09

I’m not sure it matters who said what or who made up what anymore.

You are the company you keep (or have kept) and will be guilty by association regardless.

Unfortunate at best.

That's what a lot of the job is about - opening a shopping centre in a shit hole on a wet Tuesday and smiling and shaking hands while you do because you know people have turned up and waited to see you do it. I used to look at the late Queen sometimes and wonder how often she'd rather be at home and reading the papers or watching the racing or just going to bed early with a cup of tea and a book, rather than getting glammed up to smile and shake hands with strangers.

Season 4 Troll GIF by Living Single

@GrouchyKiwi

Simply? A gowk is an utter fool.

Although when we were little many decades ago, we called troll dolls Gowks.

Fitting either way. 😏

Especially when describing perilous car journeys…

GrouchyKiwi · 27/11/2023 19:16

Thanks Arcane! That is definitely fitting - for both the book I was talking about and OS.

Regarding the funeral walkabout which was being discussed at the end of the last thread, I feel like that was when Meghan truly realised how badly she had messed up and that there was no way back. I'd imagine the stony reception they got from the family, coupled with how much genuine goodwill towards the queen and the rf there was from the public shocked her. I think they always thought they could go back once they got what they wanted and it was made clear to them then that that was never happening. They clearly aren't the brightest and seem to have no clue about how their behavior comes across

I agree with this .

Makemydaypunk · 27/11/2023 19:31

Either the whole book is a figment of Scobies’s imagination or he has collaborated with Harry and Meghan either directly or indirectly. If it is fictional then I fully expect H&M to release a formal statement that neither they or their associates and friends collaborated with OS and they will send in the lawyers and sue him. I don’t believe for a single second that they will, it’s got their spiteful, bullying paw prints all over it, all three of them are lowest of the low, what nasty people they are.

Maireas · 27/11/2023 19:33

The toothpaste on the toothbrush is an old story about Charles, related by Diana to Andrew Morton. It followed the polo accident when Charles broke his arm, and Diana felt that he was behaving just a bit too helplessly.
Whether someone told OS the story, or he imagines that it still applies, who knows. However, it shows that rigour has not been applied with his "research".

StartupRepair · 27/11/2023 19:37

This book is a massive own goal for Scobie and the Sussexes. It reveals so much spite and such blindness about the impact of their own actions.

Makemydaypunk · 27/11/2023 19:39

I wonder how poor Sophie and Edward feel now they have been branded “casually bigoted” they must be raging, what a horrendous thing for OS to say.

User14March · 27/11/2023 19:39

Why does Scobie use so many of M’s fave words, only excerpts so far but ‘coddled’, ‘rooted’ etc.

Gowk is also an old dialect word for a cuckoo.

Serenster · 27/11/2023 19:40

Yes, the toothpaste and shoelaces stories are the very definition of hackneyed tales being recycled for a new audience - here’s a link to Paul Burrell spreading them around in 2018 (and they go back further than that).

And they’ve been debunked, as people have said, but accuracy or fairness (or citations of sources!) are not this author’s strong suit.

Prince Charles has flunkeys iron his SHOELACES

Prince Charles, 69, demands have earned him the nickname of 'The Pampered Prince' by staff according to a forthcoming Amazon Prime documentary 'Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm.'

Yes, that struck me - how nasty and uncalled for.

mrsmingleton · 27/11/2023 19:41

There are so many articles " OS says this, OS says that " that it is actually boring. I cast an eye over them and don't even read them. There is nothing he says that is substantiated . He has made himself look like a fool and for H and M he has dragged up again all the mire from before. He has simply reminded everyone what a pair of Walter Mittys they are.

Maireas · 27/11/2023 19:42

@mrsmingleton - too true (plus love your gif)

googlejourney · 27/11/2023 19:43

Scobie has done H & M a dirty.

This vitriol will gain the Princess of Wales even more support, and paints H & M in a really bad light.

MrsFinkelstein · 27/11/2023 19:43

Vespanest · 27/11/2023 17:45

I honestly think Harry and Meghan naively confided too much in Scobie in the past and now he can basically write what he wants. How is this not triggering for Harry, watching the present Princess of Wales being dragged like his mother was. It so sad, if Kate was cold she was right to be so, otherwise what more would have been placed all over the papers.

I don't believe this is in anyway triggering for Harry.

He instigated most of this with the Oprah interview and his behaviour since this.

I'm not sure he is emotionally mature enough to appreciate anyone else's feelings other than his own (& Meghan's, but only as much as they affect him).
