I'm not sure what is the correct etiquette for carrying on a thread, but here we are. Thanks to @BoxedandRibboned for the original thread.

The couple, he claims, retain the power to reveal more about the “dismal record” of the Royal family’s treatment of women who married in, whom they allegedly view as “ultimately disposable”.

Thats a bit rich from someone who talks about Camilla “throwing her knickers on the table” and Kate only being capable of “standing and grinning” 🙄

That rather suggests that the British press / media were actually protecting her. Something they constantly complain happens to W&K.

Yeah, that's really interesting and if Harry was right and the British press is out to get him and Meghan and make them both look bad, it would've been really easy for them to broadcast that and publish articles the next day salivating about how the British public had turned on them. Remember they got booed when they were going into Prince Philip's memorial service too and that wasn't broadcast either.

As for Meghan looking looking like a deer caught in headlights during the walkabout in Windsor, for once I think she wasn't acting (which she does 100% of the time when in public normally). It's all very well slagging people off when 5,000 miles is separating you from them and their supporters, but it's a lot less comfortable when you're face to face.

themessygarden · 28/11/2023 09:18

I remember when Meghan was out of circulation for a while and someone asking where was Meghan, a poster replied 'helping Scobie write his book '😂 Maybe not too far from the truth. .🤔

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/11/2023 09:19

When you've already done Oprah, Netflix, various other interviews like the Cut, Finding Freedom, Spare and now Endgame then this just looks like bullying. Constantly threatening more "revelations" isn't a good look

The blackmail threats resurfacing again 😦.

’Scobie also warns that there remains much of Meghan’s “full story” about her “grim experiences behind palace walls” to reveal if she chooses.

While the couple’s documentaries and books have already revealed a “shocking amount”, he writes: “There are still things the couple has not shared.”

He does like to whip up drama, doesn't he? what a busy bee couple they were during their brief stint as royals, garnering all this evidence. 🙄

For someone who was a working member of the RF for 5 minutes before flouncing off , she has a lot to say . Allegedly.

How on earth would he know this, unless he is getting it from the horse's mouth?

And why would a future Netflix type deal be on the table, if execs can't guarantee that the story they are paying big money for is the full one?

Kay Burley was just discussing the book on Sky. Her guest said it was a PR piece for H and M. Erm hardly? It makes them look awful.

All these revelations are a bit like the reviews you see on the front of paperback novels that are the flavour of the month. You know the sort of thing - 'Unputdownable.' 'Will change your life.' 'People will be reading this in a hundred years' - from the likes of Stephen Fry and Graham Norton and the Times. Then you read the book and it's an OK read but nothing like the hyberbole. It's advertising. Like MM's 'plenty to say' and revelations of 'a shocking amount.' And with about as much substance.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 28/11/2023 09:38

There's a new Gail King (Oprah's bestie) talkshow starting today called King Charles (the co-anchor is called Charles Barclay, but seriously, what a crass name for the show). What's the betting OS will be the main interviewee, with questions primed from Montecito?

Anyone who collaborated with the writing of this book is unhinged with jealousy.

The misogyny is absolutely revolting.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/11/2023 09:47

Not sure they had the wisdom to realise that though. It does make them look awful - but it was probably written with the intention of making them look great.

Initially I think a lot of people believed H&M, and realistically some shit probably did happen. But the more the royals stay relatively quiet, and the more H&M attack, the more sympathy people will have for the main royals. You've got a situation where one side are provably and repeatedly lobbing grenades, and the other side are saying very little. H&M have gone too far IMO.

thebellagio · 28/11/2023 10:02

This almost sounds like blackmail to H&M as well. Its as if Scobie is saying, "remember the stuff you told me in anger 2 years ago that I've never published? I can write about that if you don't keep feeding me info...."

Quite frankly, she was in the inner circle for what, 4 years? But she's been out of it for 3 years, what else is there to say?

We get it. You had a culture shock and felt left alone, but its the fucking relentless nature of it being everyone elses fault other than your husbands that gets my goat.

As I've said repeatedly, all of this is on Harry. He knew his last girlfriend couldn't hack the pressure, so he married Meghan without explaining exactly what she was getting into. I genuinely don't blame her for finding the culture shock huge. But I do blame him and her for the way they've constantly moaned and complained viciously about the family knowing they can never answer back,.

sashagabadon · 28/11/2023 10:06

I agree it could be read as a threat to Meghan in particular.
I wonder if Scobie has signed an nda with m and h? I would think not as there is no precedent of a previously close royal correspondent going rogue so no reason 2 years ago to think scobie would or could write a book without their blessing.

thebellagio · 28/11/2023 10:09

The thing is, the longer the estrangement goes on, the less damage these so-called revelations can actually do.

If they leave it another 2, 3, 4 years and are still banging on about it, quite rightly the entire world will just say "FFS, shut up now". Most people are already at that point, so threatening these "revelations" just make OS look like a numpty

If whatever it is hasn't been revealed in the oprah interview, the Netflix series, the podcast, the interviews, the autobiography, the two OS books, it can't really be that important can it?

The misogyny is absolutely revolting.

It rather belies everything MM claims to stand for:

A feminist for who collaboration with other women to uplift them all is key;

A woman who claims motherhood and family is the most important thing in her life;

A mental health campaigner who is fighting online bullying;

Someone who claims to want to use her public platform for the good of everyone;

Someone who claims her gigs on things like Deal or No Deal (where she just needed to pose and look pretty) were humiliating and not the sum of who she was;

Someone who seeks "guidance" from the spirit of Princess Diana, who was, like Catherine, a quiet woman who was much more comfortable being with people than talking at them;

I agree, it is absolutely sickening.

There are some glorious typos/missing words In this from the Mail this morning under the headline "Meg didn't brief me"

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, the Sussexes' preferred royal reporter said that he had met Meghan on a number of occasions.
But he again denied being close to the former Suits star and her royal husband, repeatedly insisting that they helped him with the new book. He said: 'There's enough people around them and in their orbit who know the ins and outs of things', adding: 'If there's ever been a private encounter with Meghan, I've spoken about it'.

mrsmingleton · 28/11/2023 10:21

It's hard to believe that after all his posturing about the way the tabloids treated his mum, he's wilfully incited the same kind of coverage to be aimed at Kate.

That's a very good point @Bookworm1111 !

I can imagine that H&M have collaborated with it under the belief it will make them look good. They’re so clueless it’s untrue. They seem to think slagging off the royals and promoting their victim narrative will garner them sympathy.

They just can’t see that actually it comes across as nasty bullying. The very thing they’re supposedly against. Ironic.

which is why if they had nothing to do with this book they’d have said so by now. Scobie is a glorified ghost writer for the pair of them.

themessygarden · 28/11/2023 10:33

I guess the only positive for the Royals is that Endgame has buried all the discussions about the Duchys' shenanigans.

Edited

I guess. But as an avid watcher of 'Heir Hunters' when my twins were very young it's a bit of a surprise to me that others are so shocked by it.

I just can't get worked up about it, especially not by The Guardian's reporting slant on it, which is always hyperbolic when it comes to The Royals.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 28/11/2023 10:44

@themessygarden It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Guardian timed that investigation to coordinate with Endgame's release date - possibly in the hope of a 2 pronged attack on the RF.

I wonder if he is doing any promotional interviews with British shows this week, or is he only focused on the US? Would love to see him get a grilling about his lies.

thebellagio · 28/11/2023 10:49

he wouldn't dare do interviews in the UK. He knows that the British journalists will pull apart every lie and embellishment

I find it hilarious though that a professional writer has been reviewed as being "like a press release chucked through ChatGBT"

That's a scathing review that's gotta hurt
