Omid Scobie's new book

Heads up, Omid is back on the PR trail...

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/harry-meghan-author-omid-scobie-31362434

BTW, can anyone explain why he's Harper's Royal reporter when he only seems to have access to or report on Harry and Meghan? It's a bit strange.

Harry and Meghan's biographer calls King Charles 'unpopular' in scathing jibe

Omid Scobie's new 'explosive' book Endgame will be published on November 28 - and its description on Amazon says the author investigates the current state of the British monarchy

Just like posters who bang on about SF/ Charles/ Diana interviews from 30+ years ago . Or the ( alleged) million articles about MM in one day

And I'll keep mentioning that given there is such a contrast about how Meghan is treated in the media compared to others. The day I see 37 negative articles in 24 hours in one media outlet, on a member of the RF who isn't Meghan ... I'll stop. OK?!
Would you like a montage of them?! Just say if you do, happy to oblige! Grin

Indeed. Why has it come up yet again? Oh yes, Meghan and Harry’s unofficial spokesman is publishing yet another version of Meghan and Harry’s account of it….

and people seek it out , so that they can rehash it all over again,

pilates · 16/11/2023 16:36

Perhaps H & M need to keep OS as a friend rather than an enemy. I’m sure he could spill the beans - now that would be an interesting book 🤪

In fairness, just at the moment there is no need to seek it out it is being pushed in front of us everywhere,

I see it as some sort of pantomime version of Blackadder.

I was thinking more of a British Shrek. With an addition of donkey as the panto horse. Perhaps used for polo.

Serenster · 16/11/2023 17:16

Anyway, a couple of things occur to me from this published extract.

Firstly, Harry never seems to show he’s aware that it wasn’t just his grandmother who was dying, it was the Head of State of the UK and another 15 or so realms. This meant a lot of things had to be co-ordinated, and the interests of wider family members, even much-loved grandchildren was not paramount.

About the fact that the media announcement was put out before Harry’s plane landed, Omid writes: “Harry was crushed,” said a friend of the duke. “His relationship with the Queen was everything to him. She would have wanted him to know before it went out to the world. They could have waited just a little longer, it would have been nothing in the grand scheme of things, but no one respected that at all.”

The Queen died shortly after 3pm, Clearly the plan was that a co-ordinated announcement would be made at 6.30, with a statement being released, the BBC making the official announcement and the flag at the Queen’s palaces being lowered to half mast. That happened more or less as planned - some international media ran with the realest a couple of minutes early, and the Buckingham Palace was being lowered just before the BBC breaking news cut in, but it all was rolled out effectively.

Harry may well feel that they should have delayed the announcement until he had been told, but that would have meant holding up the whole global co-ordinated plan. So one of the seven grandchildren whose public status wasn’t going to be particularly impacted by this, could be told first? That seems very self-centred (and Omid writes they did hold it back a bit, but decided they couldn’t wait forever).

Serenster · 16/11/2023 17:16

The other point that occurs to me about the timing - The Queen died just after 3pm when William, Edward, Sophie and Andrew were all in the air flying up to Aberdeen. They were presumably told after landing in Aberdeen , around 3.50pm (that’s what Omid says, anyway, and it makes sense).

Harrys flight didn’t leave until 5.35pm, according to Omid. And Omid claims that Harry didn’t know that the Queen had actually died at that stage. More than an hour and a half after the other family members had been told. To me, that suggests that the rest of the family felt they couldn’t trust him at all. It looks quite likely that there was concern that if he was told the Queen had died, it would be leaked before they knew it and the co-ordinated media campaign rendered irrelevant.

Strange
i have only seen this book mentioned here

Do you not look at news sites @Samcro ? Lots to choose from.

JSMill · 16/11/2023 18:10

@Serenster very sensible posts. I think H a) thought he was the favourite grandchild and b) overestimated his status in the grand scheme of things.

The Independent, Times, Sun, and Mirror all have articles today about the book, mainly about the events of the day the Queen died. Every time a new bit of the book is released/leaked/teased the main stream press pick it up.

Samcro · 16/11/2023 18:40

Well I definitely don’t read the sun
but honestly I have not seen or heard about it, other than here.

pilates · 16/11/2023 18:43

I have a feeling the book will be an anticlimax for many. The same old rehashed tripe.

Harry wanted Meghan on the flight as well - he was told Meghan cannot come. He threw his toys out of the pram and an argument/negotiation ensured around this. This delayed the flight (which was filmed sat on tarmac waiting for over an hour waiting for departure). In the end they get fed up of waiting for Harry and leave.

Harry is apoplectic at this and organises his own later flight.

This was the reason given for the delay at the time, I seem to remember.
I can see that Meghan would have wanted to be there - opportunities for "last words" drama to be recounted later.

StartupRepair · 16/11/2023 20:10

What comes from every account of the day, including Harry 's own in Spare is that there was not one moment where he thought about what a huge and hard day this was for his father and how he could support him.
How many of us have had that relative at a family death who instantly made everything about themselves? Harry just seems like such hard work

pilates · 16/11/2023 20:17

Exactly right @StartupRepair

Very sad that even on his grandmother’s deathbed he was creating bad feeling amongst the family and making it about them. 😞

I think H a) thought he was the favourite grandchild and b) overestimated his status in the grand scheme of things.
He threw his toys out of the pram...
etc etc

Let me help y’all a bit with this narrative:

As we all know, and as has been said and implied countless times by reliable tabloid journalists and royal experts (so, definitely not Omid Scobie), Harry is a worthless, petulant, whiny, lying, self-centred juvenile with an IQ of 30 and the emotional maturity of a 6 year old.

Out of the blue, with no reason whatsoever, and in return for the extraordinary kindness his family has shown him all his life, including in the way his mother’s death was announced to him by KC, he lost the plot and started whining 24/7/365 to everyone that he had spent his life being hounded by the media, that his family had not defended his biracial wife when she was being attacked by hysterical racist tabloids, that they were briefing the press against him, that they were envious of his and his wife’s popularity, etc – all of which, as we all know, are VICIOUS LIES fabricated to bring down the royal family, and yet another sign that Harry is completely and utterly delusional!

That’s also why he:

  • survived two tours in Afghanistan, including raids on the enemy in the pilot seat of an Apache helicopter
  • founded Invictus and pulled off its latest hugely successful edition in September
  • is the author of one of the biggest-selling memoirs of the decade with >1m copies sold in the US alone
  • is the sponsor of dozens of non-profits supporting veteran issues (eg Scotty’s Little Soldiers) and others
  • has given countless public speeches and TV interviews where he has managed to sound thoughtful and eloquent
  • in the past 3 months, has engaged with dignitaries incl. Justin Trudeau, the President of Germany, the Head of NATO, the Second Husband of the United States, etc
  • survived a day and a half in the witness box in court without embarrassing himself, despite being cross-examined by a barrister the media had gleefully described as “a rottweiler”
  • is a happily-married husband, and father of two children who he is successfully keeping away from the media, with zero leaks

Oh wait, something doesn’t quite fit with the ‘ petulant man-child’ narrative*…

*(anyway, I read in GB News the other day that it’s not really Harry doing all this stuff, he uses an AI ventriloquist thingy, like a scammy humanoid ChatGPT, so, yeah, IRL he really is as thick as a plank)

Yes and before it stopped! How did she know that?

Isn't Invictus bust or a couple of execs and £30m down or something?

I haven’t heard anything like this.

Have you mixed up the Invictus Games with a gaming company called Invictus Gaming?

. CEO Invictus Gaming Debt

I hope it’s not the actual IGs. Having watched the documentary - I’ve come away thinking it’s a very very worthwhile organisation. And the Dept of Veteran Affairs in my country has joined with them officially in order to support and rehabilitate our veterans and support their families.

Reported on Yahoo entailment news >

CEO Peter Lawless and Chief Commercial Officer Bill Cooper were dismissed for no apparent reason," the insider revealed.

The departure of the CEO and Chief Commercial Officer has reportedly set tongues wagging internally as fears over the games' finances have also surfaced.

"As you can expect, the morale among the staff and volunteers is at an all-time low, and Prince Harry and his wife have become a significant distraction with all their troubles," the Volunteer noted.
^^
"As volunteers, we are concerned that these recent moves will again overshadow this incredible event for our veterans. Enough already," the source continued.

"This is a significant setback with just over a year to deliver the Games, which I'm told are well over budget, and no plan to close the gap even after securing $ 30 million in government support from the Province of British Columbia and the Canadian Federal government."

ALittleTeawithmilk · 16/11/2023 22:11

@CathyorClaire I posted too early. I found what you were referring to. Lots of discussion about problems in the article but right at the bottom denial that there are problems.

However, a spokesperson for the games noted that there are no issues with the budget and that the event will feature Winter Games editions like alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, and curling, per The Daily Mail.

"We can confirm that Peter Lawless and Bill Cooper are no longer employees of Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025," the spokesperson shared. "We would like to thank them for their efforts and support in helping bring the Games back to Canada for the first winter hybrid edition of the Invictus Games and in establishing the organizing structure over the past year."

I guess time will tell. But it’s very sad if the IG games are in danger of folding.
