Omid Scobie's new book

Heads up, Omid is back on the PR trail...

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/harry-meghan-author-omid-scobie-31362434

BTW, can anyone explain why he's Harper's Royal reporter when he only seems to have access to or report on Harry and Meghan? It's a bit strange.

Harry and Meghan's biographer calls King Charles 'unpopular' in scathing jibe

Omid Scobie's new 'explosive' book Endgame will be published on November 28 - and its description on Amazon says the author investigates the current state of the British monarchy

What are these “ darker truths “ anyway?
and I wonder what bridges are being burnt ( that have not already been burnt)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/11/2023 16:03

I happen to agree Kate's beautiful, sashagabadon, but it's just my personal view - "eye of the beholder" and all that, which is why I called it subjective

I also agree she's pretty good at some things apart from the actual role, but at the same time I'm mindful that all it takes is for any RF member to have a go at whatever-it-is for the more fervent admirers to go into overdrive, which all feeds into the image

Loved the "motherhood" thing though; it always reminds me of Kate's role as child-wrangler at Pippa's wedding where she made such a great job
Apologies for linking the Scum, but on googling I found some lovely images here:

Prince George bursts into tears at Pippa's wedding after getting a telling off from mum Kate outside church

PRINCE George was left in tears at his aunt Pippa Middleton’s lavish wedding today – after he got a stern scolding from his mum outside the church. The young prince, who was all smiles …

“We’re in the endgame.”

Unfortunately for me, this phrase just makes me think of a be-goateed Benedict Cumberpatch portentously raising one finger to Robert Downey Jnr - I can’t take it seriously. 🤣

Maireas · 26/11/2023 16:09

I do wonder if she's spending time with the children during their formative years in order to avoid problems later on. It does seem as if both she and William wisely want to focus on this while they can, to create a happy family life.
We don't know when they'll have to step up more, or when William's reign will begin, but until then, maybe it's wise to invest in a positive start for the children.

sashagabadon · 26/11/2023 16:16

kate dos spend a lot of time in london area and Windsor presumably to be present for the children after school, maybe to pick them up etc and I think that is fair enough while they are little. She can still reach millions of people in this catchment as majority of the uk’s population lives in the south east with almost double the population of Scotland living in London alone!
but she will need to branch out abit more as they get into teens.

JSMill · 26/11/2023 16:17

Even the title is stupid 'Endgame'. Firstly that's an American football term. Secondly and more importantly, we're talking about a thousand year old monarchy which has endured through many crises. H and M are not going to be the catalyst for the downfall of this institution.

This. Given the criticism of earlier generations for not focusing enough on the children and their needs it seems strange to criticise K&W for prioritising their children while young.

Just a hunch, but I suspect this book will turn out to be quite damaging and that Harry and Meghan will end up deeply regreting their association with Omid...

They have lumbered themselves with him.
If they ditch him, he will turn on them.

Well it’s more likely it’s referencing the final stage of a chess game than American football but I do agree it’s a bizarrely hyperbolic title.

I suspect part of the problem is that Scobie was assuming that the Monarchy was only being held up by affection for the Queen and that past poor public polling of Charles would mean the disintegration of the institution and a swiftly greater push to republicanism.

The problem is it took so long for his book to come out that we’ve seen how little push back to Charles there was, how his poll numbers and that of the royal family in general are still positive, and that the royal family have just continued doing their engagements and not courting any drama.

And he hasn’t really got any good insider gossip which would help the book sell. Well maybe he has as there have only been a few extracts so far.

But no one is buying this as some intellectual review of the role and future of the monarchy in the UK so he’d be better off marketing it as a fun, gossipy romp behind the scenes.

StartupRepair · 26/11/2023 17:42

Scobie's writing is such a mix of the grandiose and banal. Very much like Meghan. Her fingerprints are all over this book and I suspect she will come to regret it.

He's ridiculous isn't it. What a totally cringeworthy thing to have done.

Far better if he'd fan girled Catherine a bit and stuck in some very sneaky pa comments etc but his obvious Harryesque bitterness and resentment makes him look as spiteful as the Sussexes. Don't these people have staff, people to advise them?

Serenster · 26/11/2023 18:09

The quote I posted upthread (and have have reposted now) about Kate’s coverage being infantilised, and her not wanting to do anything but grinning photo ops comes from his interview in the Sunday Times today. I presume he’s not suggesting that has been misquoted?

AliceOlive · 26/11/2023 18:18

Is the twitter post trying to say he didn’t write those things about Kate?

Serenster · 26/11/2023 18:19

Redaing that extract that Mylovelygreendress posted above, I’m also wondering if this can really be the same Omid Scobie who extolled Meghan’s perfect packing skills, perfect warrior yoga pose and amazing willingness to wee in the bushes when on safari? And also wrote such gems as “Meghan’s willingness to help others and her drive to excel meant she often was deemed ‘fake’ by classmates at school who felt it was impossible for anyone to be that ‘perfect.

Who’s marvelling at someone’s ability to perform the simplest task there…?

That quote is quite a gem. I wonder where he got that information' from.

AliceOlive · 26/11/2023 18:23

Packing skills!!!

I wonder how he found out about that?

Makemydaypunk · 26/11/2023 18:28

Gosh that quote is full of spite and venom isn’t it, someone is really jealous of Kate for sure.

AliceOlive · 26/11/2023 18:29

WTAF

“Toni Morrison famously said, “If there's a book you really want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it.” So I did! It’s been the toughest work of my career but, finally, in four weeks, ENDGAME will cover the royal story like NEVER before.”

This guy… no words.

pilates · 26/11/2023 18:36

It’s the End Game alright but not for the monarchy but H & M & OS. How can anyone ever take them seriously? They are a laughing stock and there credibility is at an all time low. How can they come back from this? I hope H&M find peace and happiness but I don’t think they ever will. It must be a very toxic environment for a family to live in.

BalloonSlayer · 26/11/2023 18:42

sashagabadon · 26/11/2023 15:21

I think the hate directed to Kate is simply because she is just the perfect future queen. Jealousy plain and simple. She is beautiful and can seemingly turn her hand to most sports and activities in a competent manner , she can play the piano reasonably well, she is a great mother , has a normal family that like each other and get on. People like her , she is nice! The only thing we don’t know if she can do is sing but she can probably do that too!
I honestly think it’s just that as basic as that sounds. Meghan clearly wanted to become her friend originally and was surprised when Kate did not reciprocate ( wisely as it turns out)

I also think when this book was conceived by H/M/ omid, Marcus Anderson etc they imagined the royal family in disarray and the montecito duo riding high in public perception, living their best lives with their Hollywood friends. That hasn’t been the case, n fact the opposite has happened.
I think omid just backed the wrong royal horse and us pissed off about that fact!

Kate can sing @sashagabadon , there is a video out there of her playing Eliza Doolittle in a school production of My Fair Lady. She is about 11, looks exactly the same as she does now and is singing "Wouldn't it be lovely" in a very nice tuneful voice, very impressive.

This. The final nail in the coffin.

Scobie, H&M please take a bow Grin.

Whoops - their credibility!
