Buckingham Palace denies claims Charles ‘might offer Harry a royal home’ in UK

boxedandribboned · 25/09/2023 14:08

This story is curious. There are versions in the Telegraph, Daily Mail and Times as well. With Buckingham Palace emphatically denying it - Harry seems the likely source. Is he trying to force the RF to give him a permanent home in the UK?

Ordinarily, it would seem a reasonable enough thing to expect, but of course, things are no longer 'normal'. After Harry's disloyalty to both the family and the institution, it is a bit cheeky to expect to be given free home on royal property?

@Roussette
It's actually less unlikely than you think that many posters have relevant connections.

I'm not in the slightest bit important but one of my dc goes to school with royal-adjacent children and I attended a function on the weekend with a couple of people who have close links to some prominent royals, attended the coronation etc. I didn't ask them about Harry - but there must be thousands of people with close friends or relatives working in royal palaces, or going to school with royals, or attending the same gyms or whatever. People love to gossip.

I have from an impeccable source that upon his marriage Harry asked for Windsor Castle. All Windsor Castle. I guess the idea was a sort of dual court (or maybe a duel court…). Anyway, that was given short shrift.

there’s no accusation too nonsensical - apparently

I say leave them to it. The tone and nastiness of some of these messages reflect poorly on the royals. This is what they created. Let them take ownership of it.

It really didn’t have to be this way.

I'd agree with that. Harry supposedly wanted 'free' life away from the constraints of the RF, he could easily have had that, and retained his family connections. Instead, he embarked upon a pretty unseemly publicity campaign, which was designed to embarrass his closest relatives - presumably hoping to drag them down to his level.

They haven't fought back, they have certainly risen above the nastiness, but no-one can blame them for keeping H at arm's length in the future.

As said, they'll make arrangements for him to visit if given plenty of notice but his close family members are unlikely to ever trust him again, and many in the extended family will probably avoid him, if possible. I have an unpleasant family member myself so I can imagine how they feel.

You’ve rewritten history.
Go back and check the archives (both tabloid and broadcast footage and recordings), before Oprah, Netflix and Spare.

They haven't fought back, they have certainly risen above the nastiness

Strongly disagree.

I just Googled and found this from 2019, I don't remember reading it at the time but wasn't following the Harry and Meghan drama back then.

While Harry and Meghan have settled into family life at Frogmore Cottage with baby Archie, they initially had higher hopes. The couple are understood to have set their hearts at first on Windsor Castle, and are believed to have asked the Queen if living quarters could be made available after their marriage.
The Queen politely but firmly suggested Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate, which is said to be her favourite home. The cottage, which has five bedrooms, was then given a £2.4m makeover.
The Queen spends most weekends at Windsor and is in official residence there over Easter and in June. With about 1,000 rooms, including private and state apartments, it is the largest inhabited palace in the world.
Hugo Vickers, a royal author and a deputy lord lieutenant of Berkshire, said: “There are empty bedrooms and suites in the private apartments which the Sussexes may have had their eye on, or perhaps some former living quarters in the castle grounds converted into other things. But I can see how it might not be entirely appropriate to have a young family living there.”

Royal aides say Windsor is “a special place” for Harry and Meghan. They held a christening at the castle for Archie and were married in St George’s Chapel last year.

Not really. If I was cleverer I'm sure I could illustrate the potential numbers with some sort of quadratic equation 🤔

Of course Harry isn't the source, he's made very clear that he's washed his hands of the UK and will only make brief visits when he to.

Besides since they left, the leaks about Harry and Meghan's movements in the British press have come to a dead halt. Whereas before, everything they did and every private conversation they had would be leaked. Look how many times Harry has suddenly been photographed in the UK without the press even knowing he was in the country, much less having advanced warning. Look how many times Harry and Meghan have done stuff here and the press had no idea about it till afterwards.

That proves it was the Palace leaking, and not H&M. H&M run a tight ship now, that's why nothing leaks about them in the British press except when the Palace leaks stuff about them, which is never about their actual movements.

When H&M do leak stories it's exclusively to American media. It's beyond credulity that they're leaking stories which makes them look bad and entitled to the same British tabloids they despise. If a story is in the British press, it's either made up or leaked by the Palace. If it's in People or Page 6, it's leaked by H&M.

At one point it was daily. As I say, unbelievable. Do you honestly honestly think Meghan's nanny and hairdresser would come on here to slag her off?!

I think a most acceptable solution is to say, yes, you can stay in an apartment if you give us notice (for security/staff) but no permanent roost. As others have said, he could buy a place easily.

Weren’t you the one who said Netflix paid for Meghan’s clothes? (Apologies if I’m mistaken)

Yeah, I’m going to give your impeccable source a miss.

'scuse me if I take that with a lorry load pinch of salt!

On here we have had Meghan's nanny, a friend of Doria, and many posters close rellies who have worked at BP, Windsor castle, Kensington Palace, oh and M's hairdresser!

So much so, I am perplexed as to why MN doesn't have a Royal Warrant. A lot of the staff are connected to posters on here after all !

Thank you for the laughs 😆

CoughingMajoress · 26/09/2023 12:09

I have from an impeccable source that Harry demanded to be given the whole of Bedfordshire, plus the whole of Devon but on weekends only. This would legally have obligated anyone residing in Bedfordshire to provide him with room and board when requested, and they also would legally have had to wear t-shirts with his and Meghan's faces on them, and make any dog larger than 10kg available for Archie to practice Baby Polo.

He also demanded to be referred to as His Supreme Gingery Hotness at all times.

I know, because of my sources.

(The irony is I actually worked at the Natural History Museum, which Kate is Patron of, for eight years, and have met and had conversations with her half a dozen times. Knowing royals isn't really a big deal if you live in the UK.)

I think I read they wanted an apartment at Windsor castle. I also read Meghan thought fhey were getting Frogmore House which is quite grand and not Frogmore cottage. I must say I thought It was a bit of a dump considering what grand residences royal usually live in.

but didn't William and Kate live in Nottingham Cottage until after George was born? And then in a smallish house in Wales for a couple of years after that?

You forgot to quote Royal aides and experts. If you did that, it would have made it true, don’t you know.

CoughingMajoress · 26/09/2023 12:22

It's really hard to tell anything for sure about royals because so much is PR smoke and mirrors.

I mean Will and Kate recently advertised for a household CEO (which is supposedly unprecedented in terms of royal protocol) and the job ad revealed that they have more than 60 household staff just in one of their homes. Yet their addition of a new house in Windsor was trumpeted in the press as an example of how modest and humble they are because it doesn't have room for live-in staff (because it actually is so big it has separate staff quarters).

They have multiple homes, their apartment in KP is what most people would consider a vast mansion, some of the stuff around their Norfolk mansion is eye-watering (redoing the kitchen three times at vast expense, moving the tennis court a bit to the left).

Meanwhile the tabloids were making up stuff about Frogmore having gold bathtubs and yoga studios and acting outraged that it costs money to remove asbestos and install proper plumbing, when H&M paid for that themselves.

The royals have a very good and longrunning PR campaign aimed at portraying themselves as humble and down to earth unless they want to throw someone under a bus, then that person will suddenly have loads of articles about them spending. They did it to Margaret a lot, they've done it to Kate before, they did it to Meghan. In truth they all spend money like water. Why would anyone believe or expect that royals would be modest and humble?

I have from an impeccable source that Meghan demanded that the script for the pilot episode of Suits replace Macbeth as the standard GCSE English set text.

Royal aides declined to comment but told the Daily Mail off the record, "doesn't that sound exactly like something she'd do?"

I think that's a bit of a generational truism. Plenty of my grandmother's friends were frugal about the strangest things (rewashing and reusing plastic bags, carefully keeping spare bits of string, mending clothes) whilst living in big houses and having pots of money.

But gosh, now Meghan can’t go to the dentist, the Farmer’s Market, the drive through, the airport, shopping etc without a canny papparrazzi spotting her leaving her house and photographing her. And her “friends” are constantly talking about her plans. What is the common denominator, I wonder…?
