Buckingham Palace denies claims Charles ‘might offer Harry a royal home’ in UK

This story is curious. There are versions in the Telegraph, Daily Mail and Times as well. With Buckingham Palace emphatically denying it - Harry seems the likely source. Is he trying to force the RF to give him a permanent home in the UK?

Ordinarily, it would seem a reasonable enough thing to expect, but of course, things are no longer 'normal'. After Harry's disloyalty to both the family and the institution, it is a bit cheeky to expect to be given free home on royal property?

The story about Harry refusing a birthday invite which turned out to be false, was to distract people from the real story.

Serenster · 14/11/2023 11:44

What was the real story?

it seems Charles did have a private birthday party on Saturday night - the King and Queen of Norway were spotted flying into Heathrow on Saturday, presumably for it.

pilates · 14/11/2023 14:52

@callingeveryone has it summed up nicely

Serenster · 15/11/2023 09:28

I note Victoria Ward of the Telegraph (who has very close Sussex sources) has tweeted about how the King and Harry spoke on the phone yesterday, and Charles also spoke to Meghan and Archie and Lili sang him happy birthday. I presume we’re not now going to see that denied by the Sussexes? Or, I suppose, by the Palace?

Watchingpaintdrying · 15/11/2023 14:51

Obviously released by the Sussexes not Charles. More manipulation by them.

Serenster · 15/11/2023 15:36

I see it has now been “clarified” by sources close to the King that there was no call, as he was too busy (and the time zone differences would also have been tricky I presume ) but a pre-recorded message was sent.

Good luck anyone who wants to try and untangle the truth behind all the stories!

Estermay · 15/11/2023 15:41

He was too busy to have a 5 minute call with his own son?
I have family in the US, time differences are not that big a deal.
Sounds like they are simply not talking to each other at all.

It does sound that way.

PamelaAndreaGryglaszewska · 15/11/2023 15:54

Maybe Charles is wary of being recorded during a live conversation.

Estermay · 15/11/2023 15:57

The Sun and BBC are saying Harry phoned Chales, spoke to him, and wished him a happy birthday.
I will leave you all to this. I thought people here knew what was happening with the Royal family, but a quick Google throws up more up to date info than people are saying here.

Samcro · 15/11/2023 16:18

so Harry spoke to his dad and wished him a happy birthday.
why is this news??

whiteshutters · 15/11/2023 16:29

What does it have to do with the thread title? 😂

pilates · 15/11/2023 17:11

Yeah, I would stick to google much more informative

EdithWeston · 15/11/2023 22:48

Well, threads wander, and I suppose it's not wandered that far as it's still taking about KC and PH.

I noted that The Sun was overt in attributing its article to a source close to Prince Harry. Palace remaining silent, as always

whiteshutters · 15/11/2023 23:05

I was asking as we are constantly reminded here by some posters about sticking to the title topic and not "derailing"

Failing to provide a safe place to stay for Prince Archie and Princess Lili should they visit the UK...

This story isn't going to go down well... for King Charles and the Palace

They have parents who are responsible adults so it's up to them to sort out their accommodation and security for their DC. If H&M had not been do nasty about King Charles and Queen Camilla in his book I'm sure they wouldn't have their lease not renewed. Actions have consequences. A lesson Harry needs to learn.

Estermay · 16/11/2023 01:23

That sounds like you think it is fine for parents to punish their adult kids financially.
Thankfully the Queen did not take the same approach with Charles.

My view is it is fine for Harry to buy his own house in Britain. But I don't know any decent parents who would not give their adult child a bed for one night. That was mean of Charles.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 16/11/2023 04:30

The media generated drama over the phone call from Harry to Charles for C’s birthday has been that Harry will call, he did call, he didn’t call, he may have called, arrangements have been made for a call later in the week.

Considering Harry has no idea what the word discretion means and has no loyalty to his father or brother, why would they want him to stay in a Royal palace? I suppose the usual thing would be to offer Harry the use of an apartment at BP. I can’t imagine that would be a comfortable arrangement for anyone, least of all Harry. To have a house sitting empty all year apart from for a very occasional visit is bonkers. Harry isn’t a working Royal and he contributes nothing to the family . Why should he get all the perks? He has contempt for the ‘Institution’ and all it stands for so using properties which belong to the Crown to suit his convenience seems very self serving.

He can move back here and buy a house if that’s what he wants.

Samcro · 16/11/2023 07:28

why would he want to stay there? they have been throwing him under the bus for years.
unless its because its more secure

whywouldyousaythat · 16/11/2023 07:53

I guess staying there for his security is more about saving a few bucks on his own private security, benefiting from tax payer funding of the RF security and tax funded accommodation.. Another family living off tax payers backs.

Harry has contempt for not only the institution and but also for the British public.

Let him fund himself, he is an ex- RF 'employee' a multi millionaire, who can well afford to pay for his own place and security.

Maybe he likes to have a full English breakfast with one sausage less when he comes for free.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 16/11/2023 08:48

Harry manages to stay in places all over the world. Why would he want to stay alone in some old pile where he’s not got his own private quarters? His home is in California now.

Chances are he stayed with family or friends, or in a very nice hotel, like he does in all the other places he visits in the world.

Scobie’s book can’t come quick enough.

Since when has it been a punishment, when a DC chooses to leave the family firm that they no longer get the salary/perks?

Also, they're appear to be happy to offer him a place to stay - either with his father (wherever he his, this time Balmoral) or, with a bit of notice, somewhere in/near London (summer is prime time for maintenance, as family away, and not all staff are there; so not in constant readiness)

I think it's reasonable to check with hosts about convenience before inviting yourself (even when the hosts are you parents, who might not be there anyhow). I do think its a shame he didn't go to Balmoral - I'm sure the extra travelling time could have been managed somehow.

I think that may happen when the renovations are complete. The Edinburghs and the Princess Royal might have suites there too (as they used to).

And there will be suites for visitors (some heads of state, visiting royalty etc) and I think the Sussexes will be able to use those.

Not sure if KC will ever move in though - seems to prefer Clarence House
