Buckingham Palace denies claims Charles ‘might offer Harry a royal home’ in UK

This story is curious. There are versions in the Telegraph, Daily Mail and Times as well. With Buckingham Palace emphatically denying it - Harry seems the likely source. Is he trying to force the RF to give him a permanent home in the UK?

Ordinarily, it would seem a reasonable enough thing to expect, but of course, things are no longer 'normal'. After Harry's disloyalty to both the family and the institution, it is a bit cheeky to expect to be given free home on royal property?

Its quite obvious Harry gave this story to the press in an attempt again to highlight his 'victim' status.

Personally if I had family that moved abroad and had their own home and plenty of money, then proceeded to slag me and my family off for 3 years, they could sod off when it comes to staying with me.

Nagging his dad endlessly for a handout while negotiating to sell out the entire family for money, lying and supporting his wife's lies all the while? Doing all this while his grandmother was sick and his grandfather dying? There couldn't be a big enough fuck off on this planet to give to him.

While they have money, I mean huge amounts compared to most people, I don’t actually think they will have that much disposable cash…to spend the guts of at least a million on a small place in the Uk. Much easier for family to give him one.

colourwheelofortune · 26/09/2023 21:25

@AuroraCake Don't you shake your head at the entitlement? Harry demanding a home in the UK? Paid by the tax payers? Hasn't he heard of hotels?

Well everything was always provided for him. I think the shock of it has been mind blowing for him. Course he could buy a place but they have a huge mortgage…publicly available information in California and ai think it was Charles payment which paid the deposit.

but you absolutely don't know he asked for that, why would they? They don't want to be here.

EdithWeston · 26/09/2023 21:39

Well, if Harry couldn't possibly have done it. And there's no godly reason why anyone else would plant it, then perhaps one or more of the papers does have well informed but entirely unauthorised (by anyone) sources.

And that it's wrong to see every fart as deliberate planted propaganda

All the talk is him. So presumably alone but can’t imagine he would come much. I doubt Meghan or the children will. In fact I can’t imagine they would come maybe when they are older, late teens or something (if they are interested alone).

I think given the source article and who wrote it, we can be fairly confident that Harry wanted this story out there and would quite like a place to stay. I mean you would.

Mylovelygreendress · 26/09/2023 21:49

I simply can’t think of any circumstances where Meghan and the children will come over to the U.K. Maybe when the kids are older they will want to but who knows ?

I mean it’s mind blowing really. Your family is the one of the most famous families ever. Your grandfathers the King. Your Uncle will be King and your cousin and yet you don’t know them or, on the current road, will ever really have met them. Utterly bizarre. But time is a healer so may not always be like that. I mean Charles isn’t going to go to California. They would need to come to the UK.

Does it have something to do with COS status as well? I mean, the chances of him bring called on to act in that capacity are next to none (they seem to have put in contingencies to avoid both Harry and Andrew being anywhere near that role) but I guess it is advantageous to have people (Americans?) believe that he has a home in the UK and could theoretically take on such a role.

I think Charles/courtiers/RF made the correct decision here - open to Harry and his family visiting, and making accommodation available with sufficient notice, but not provide a permanent residence. Harry can always buy a UK home if he needs one.

I think for Harry though a lot of it is about the status that things like being a COS infer

This is nothing to do with H. Do you believe everything the gutter press say? They make it up for click bait.

Harry very clearly put out a statement when they left the U K that the British press would never again get cooperation for them

H is suing them. They hate him for it. The people who do the leaking are the RF staff

If you really looked into this, researched, watched the Netflix program, and read SPARE, you would know it's nothing to do with H & M.

Remember those same papers a few weeks ago were saying H had turned down the chance to stay at Balmoral. Now they are saying otherwise.

The tabloid trash is simply that backed up by lies and twisted truths mainly out of KP

ALittleTeawithmilk · 27/09/2023 02:20

I have from an impeccable source that upon his marriage Harry asked for Windsor Castle. All Windsor Castle.

‘All Windsor Castle’

Please tell you ‘impeccable source’ that I have a bridge…

But the Independent and the Sunday Times aren't really gutter press are they? I forget whether Harry has/is suing either of these publications, so can't comment on whether they might be acting in retaliation.

I think it's possible to watch Harry and Meghan's Netflix documentary and read Spare, and still believe that these articles might have something to do with Harry and/or someone close to him.

Harry would have a vested interest in having access to royal properties: it keeps the royal connections alive for an American audience; it gives credence to the idea that he could be called upon for COS responsibilities, no matter how unlikely that may appear to the rest of us; it provides free (to him) accommodation which might otherwise have to be paid for; it provides additional security, which is clearly important to him. It may also provide the way for the healing of damaged family relationships, which may be a motivation for him.

With all of these reasons for Harry to be interested in staying in royal properties, it is logical to think that he may put out 'feelers' via the press, especially if communication has broken down completely with the RF (as seems to be the case, particularly between him and William). Harry may not have many avenues to make his wishes known.

Unfortunately for Harry, it seems that the Palace have shut down his requests pretty quickly. (Although not brutally - he is still welcome to visit/stay, just with some notice).

ALittleTeawithmilk · 27/09/2023 05:40

But the Independent and the Sunday Times aren't really gutter press are they? I forget whether Harry has/is suing either of these publications, so can't comment on whether they might be acting in retaliation.

“The Sunday Times is a British Sunday newspaper whose circulation makes it the largest in Britain's quality press market category. It was founded in 1821 as The New Observer. It is published by Times Newspapers Ltd, a subsidiary of News UK(formerly News International), which is owned by News Corp. Times Newspapers also publishes The Times” (from wiki)

News Corp also owns it ie Murdoch. And Harry is suing Murdoch’s The Sun

I’m of the opinion that the Independent, now online only is not what it was.

Harry is pretty unequivocal about the British press. He did say in his book that he will not deal with the British press. And honestly? If he did, even through an intermediary, don’t you think the British media would sniff it out. They’d be delighted to be able to print that Harry has leaked to a newspaper. Given that he’s suing four media groups for illegal news gathering etc..

AuroraCake · 27/09/2023 06:14

And again, it’s a Telegraph article. The one he is known to ‘talk’ too. The others took it from there.

Also they have always said he has favourite journalists…the media that it. Nothing of this looks anything else than it is. Makes perfect sense. Victoria Ward is known along with Briony too write articles that sound very verbatim. The Times often has artificials on Charles, William, Camilla that you know have been sanctioned. The Times being the most middle ground of the broadsheets. If you want a newspaper that they are guaranteed not to to talk too it’s the Guardian as they have no skin in royal game.

Serenster · 27/09/2023 06:33

Not sure that’s true - remember it was the Guardian that “somehow” got hold of a copy of Spare the week before publication (despite no advance copies being sent out) so they could lead with the stories doubtless deemed most damaging to the family, starting with the dog bowl incident.

The Guardian got somewhat overshadowed by the whole Spanish bookseller selling a copy by mistake story, meaning the Mail went all in with extracts, but I thought it likely they had been handpicked to lead on the book’s contents.

Publishers maybe but doubt Harry himself would talk them…or maybe it’s the other way around and they wouldn’t talk to him. They went though a faze of calling them Mr and Mrs Mountbatten Windsor. I mean they literally don’t give two hoots.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 27/09/2023 06:56

I think they do probably give two hoots. Harry and Meghan bring more traffic to media than any other couple. Ahead of Beyonce and JayZ, who are ahead of William and Catherine. All bring in the advertising dollars big time but H&M the most.

There’s big money in publishing rolling stories about Harry and Meghan.

Serenster · 27/09/2023 07:02

Yes, the Guardian would have been expecting a heap of traffic from publishing the first extracts of Spare - they must have been fuming at the Spanish edition suddenly being out there.

Yeah, you might be right. Certainly Harry holds great swathes of the British media in contempt. But I tend to think that he wouldn't be above using the media where he thinks it might advance his cause, in this case permanent UK accommodation. This is rather cynical of course, but he might claim to have learned from the best!

Given that so many reporters and media outlets seem to lean on each other to a large degree, I'm not sure who would do the sniffing.

PrincessOfTigger · 27/09/2023 07:26

Harry is not suing the Independent or the Sunday Times. I have explained elsewhere but newspapers have their own editors and editorial lines. Nobody is waking up Rupert Murdoch every morning to ask what the editorial line on the new recycling policy or the new Waitrose opened in town or the latest celebrity divorce or Prince Harry should be. Someone suing a paper makes zero difference to the coverage in completely different papers unless it’s a disagreement about the specifics of the case.

Secondly, the Sunday Times and The Sun have completely different readerships. Newspapers are trying to reflect their readers. Therefore they have different editorial lines on different things. It is also completely normal for a paper to not have a “line” at all on a certain subject or to print views by people they don’t agree with (Bin Laden had a byline in the Guardian!)

Thirdly, you have to understand that newspapers are sued or threatened with legal action all the time. Most people are clueless about defamation law and some see red when their name is published. When I first started, I did a lot of court reporting. So I’d sit in court taking notes and then write it up (unless it was a big story, then I’d pass it on to the real journalists 😆). Not even joking I’ve been threatened with legal action for reporting what people have said with their own mouthes under oath!! The newspaper industry is not petty and doesn’t hold grudges, it’s brutal sometimes. The priority of journalists is getting to the truth and the priority of editors is selling newspapers. We did not have a chalkboard of enemies who had ever said mean words about us or threatened to sue and who our job was to ruin. If some idiot threatened to sue we’d continue reporting as if they hadn’t (which is also a matter of principle, people can’t change editorial lines by making threats).

And finally, you have to be wary of the precedent it sets. The whole point of news conglomerates is to maximise profits by having products that represent multiple views. It’s not for uniformity, it’s for diversity. And if you have a situation where the rich and powerful can evade any scrutiny from anywhere simply by generating a conflict with just one of them, it’s unsustainable.

Well to get a scope on a book like that is huge. Personally they don’t give two hoots and their actual opinion pieces on any of the royals are thin on the ground. Which itself is an asset as you would tend to read them then because it’s a relatively rare occurrence.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 27/09/2023 08:26

Nobody is waking up Rupert Murdoch every morning to ask what the editorial line on the new recycling policy or the new Waitrose opened in town or the latest celebrity divorce or Prince Harry should be.

No one wakes Rupert Murdoch up in the morning because he’s already set the tone for his newspapers. He’s the boss. He employs people to run his media who know what he wants.

Byline have done a whole series on Rupert Murdoch in the past few months. They’ve not done that because he’s an impartial and benign influence over his media empire.

boxedandribboned · 27/09/2023 08:58

Well, Occam's razor suggests the story can most likely be traced back to Harry's camp. I can well imagine the outrage he felt when told that he couldn't just swan into private accommodation at Windsor Palace for a last-minute stay (don't they know who I am?) and his inner circle of supporters/sycophants likely validated/ encouraged this outrage (how dare they! You're the King's son! It's outrageous!)
Perhaps emboldened by a combination of this private outrage and the relatively favorable Invictus PR, he brings his position to the attention of the usual trusted suspects at the Telegraph/Times.

What's quite interesting about some of the responses on this thread, however, is that even his supporters can see the folly of promoting his position - because most of them are insisting the story is made up!
