Buckingham Palace denies claims Charles ‘might offer Harry a royal home’ in UK

This story is curious. There are versions in the Telegraph, Daily Mail and Times as well. With Buckingham Palace emphatically denying it - Harry seems the likely source. Is he trying to force the RF to give him a permanent home in the UK?

Ordinarily, it would seem a reasonable enough thing to expect, but of course, things are no longer 'normal'. After Harry's disloyalty to both the family and the institution, it is a bit cheeky to expect to be given free home on royal property?

I think he was unreasonable regarding Windsor, I can't imagine that it's like a Premier Inn and you can just book a room the day before you arrive.

He should use a Premier Inn like the rest of us would for a work trip.

Yes, Harry’s “just like the rest of us”!

TallerSally · 28/09/2023 14:53

This is sooooooo funny!

Looks like even though King Charles (and Camilla) refused to take the high road and offer Harry overnight accommodation when he was last in London, Eugenie and Jack had no such qualms when both H&M visited them in Portugal after Invictus, until Sept 20, without the virulent British tabloids/Murdoch press even knowing!

They're only just finding out that "no mates" Harry and "desperate attention-seeker" Meghan managed to do an entire overseas trip under their noses without them noticing, but on top, H&M flew back to the US VIA THE UK on Sept 20, with a stopover at Heathrow! No pics (yet), no opportunities for the tabs to write pages and pages of articles rolling out their 'body language experts' and 'royal commentators' and 'lip readers' and faded celebs to opine on how Harry looks so mis and Meghan's carrying her luggage in a controlling manner. No clicks, no$$$, so sad!

How embarrassing for the H&M-hating press and their followers that these two continue to bust up their negative narratives (the Times recently had an article entitled "No-one wants to have Prince Harry to stay" - egg on faces there!)

on the front page of your favourite The Telegraph...

Tequila !

Okay. I hope they had a nice time. Tequila indeed.

Harry can stay in a hotel as he does in other countries surely.

He is yesterdays news already.

Clearly not, as we are all here talking about him.

TabithatheTabbycat · 07/11/2023 12:27

Another strange leak & counter-leak story.

First the Sunday Times reports that Harry has turned down an invite to Charles' party, now reports from Harry's spokespeople that he wasn't invited.

Who stood to gain anything from the initial story? Seemingly no-one.
It makes Charles look bad, it makes Harry look bad. As does the update.
It does cement the impression that some of these stories are just made-up by gossipy incidentals with no genuine information to impart.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 07/11/2023 13:12

I think it was a creation of the usual media suspects. They create the story that Charles has invited Harry to his birthday celebration, but Harry has turned him down - what a meanie Harry is!

And the follow-up story is how much Harry has hurt Charles by refusing the kind invitation - what a meanie Harry is!

Denial of an invite by Harry is another story! Is Charles being the meanie not inviting him, or is Harry lying when he says he’s received no such invite?

I wonder, is Charles even having a celebration for 75? He’s spent this year celebrating. How many members of the public would know, without looking it up, when Charles’ birthday is, and has his birthday ever really mattered to the public?

I think the tabloids are absolutely hanging out for Scobie’s book release. They really need some new material:

Viviennemary · 07/11/2023 14:17

Sounds like somebody isn't being honest about the invitation. I wonder who. Was he invited or not.

LimeCheesecake · 07/11/2023 18:27

The insinuation is the invite being turned down story was to have a new royal story for the Sunday Times to stop them writing another story about the Kenya visit (a negative one). So the paper was fed a nice “Harry being nasty to his poor dad” story of refusing to come to his party next week - advantage as well as heading off questions next week of “where’s Harry?” Get those stories out of the way now.

What they haven’t learned is Harry and Meghan genuinely won’t cross the road to make the monarchy look good, so would happily share that they weren’t invited.

Sooner or later, someone in the Palace needs to realise that the Harry stories need to stop. Just because they are popular and the papers will dump out anything else for them, doesn’t mean they can poke that couple and expect dignified silence.

Frankly I don't buy that at all - it doesn't make any sort of sense. This is obviously not the sort of story Charles would want in the media. How on earth would he benefit? If anything, he wants Harry to stay quietly in the US and out of the headlines.

Initially I assumed it was some randomer making up lies, but after your post I'm starting to think it was Harry's camp all along - trying to make him relevant by keeping him in the headlines and reminding people of his close links to the king.

thebellagio · 08/11/2023 14:22

Maybe Harrys camp leaked the original story about being invited purely so the same person could then provide a rebuttal a few days later and once again show that Harry is the hard-done by one who hasn't even been invited to his fathers birthday..... showing him to be the good one, and positioning his father as the mean one with the wicked stepmother

Honestly nothing would surprise me anymore.

I just wish they would all just either make up or shut up.

LimeCheesecake · 08/11/2023 17:57

I think it’s more likely that the palace briefed about Charles birthday celebrations to do a happy family story and we’re asked about Harry and Meghan going (because they will always be asked because photos /stories of those two get more press interest than any of the rest of the family) and a stupid white lie of “they can’t make it” has been blown up into a “Harry snubs the King” followed by Harry saying he was never asked.

they need to know they will be asked about him at any “family” event. The palace will be asked shortly if Harry is invited to spend Christmas. There will be a story in December either about Harry being snubbed by his Dad or Harry breaking his dads heart by refusing to spend Christmas with him. We already know he’ll be in America, but this will be presented as one side or the other being upset.

thebellagio · 09/11/2023 10:14

@LimeCheesecake yeah you're probably right. It was possibly an attempt to deflect attention, but then someone in Harry's camp (ahem, Scobie) has taken that as an opportunity to reignite the "Harry has been snubbed yet again" narrative.

I'd like to think that at some point soon everyone can just get on with their lives - its been nearly 4 years now since this all blew up. At some point IF there has been repeated olive branches (and we know the Queen invited them both to Christmas and Balmoral), then surely its time to move on and just live a happy healthy life, not this continual angry state of mind that doesn't help anyone.

To be fair to the RF, I don't think they are dragging Harry into anything - any leaks will be coming from outsiders or people adjacent to him.

The RF wants Harry and Meghan completely off the agenda.

EdithWeston · 09/11/2023 21:48

I think the likeliest explanation is that it's all invented bollocks.

Date of KC's birthday, and that it's 75th (sort of landmark) is of course public knowledge. So writing a speculative article would be dead easy to do

ALittleTeawithmilk · 09/11/2023 21:50

‘The RF wants Harry and Meghan completely off the agenda’, I think that’s right. But I don’t think this is coming from Harry. He’s moved on. He has a rich busy life. Without any of the constraints that come with being a member of the RF.

But articles on the RF members are read more often when the stories can be linked to Harry and Meghan in some way, in any way. That’s why we are seeing such ludicrous stories like the one about Charles’ birthday. Meghan and Harry generate more clicks and advertising dollars than the other RF members. (It was the same when Diana was alive). So the tabloid media will tie them into any story any which way they can.

Viviennemary · 09/11/2023 21:54

I think the RD does want Harry of the agenda. But he seems to be clinging on to trying to carry on with pseudo royal duties.

Exactly - the Family are in Scotland, and they are the weeks when heavy or intrusive maintenance is done, plus even-deeper-than-usual cleaning is done, and during which staff are encouraged to take their holidays.

He was offered a place to stay, with the Family, by visiting Balmoral. They could probably rustle up a driver too if necessary.

If he just wanted accommodation near London, then he needed to arrange that in advance. And there will probably be more guest suites available at Buckingham Palace once the refurb there is completed (though that's still 3+ years away). Until then, he'll just have to get used to asking to stay a little further in advance

ALittleTeawithmilk · 10/11/2023 07:25

When is Omid Scobie’s book being released again? The tabloids really really need some new material for the anti Harry and Meghan mob to obsess over.

callingeveryone · 25/09/2023 16:01

This is just a made-up story to re-ignite the Harry versus Charles camps. The media have nothing real to get everyone arguing over so have made this up.

Agree with this. They won’t ever live in the UK again.
