Heart of Invictus: Flop?

MamoruHisaishi · 06/09/2023 20:55

Heart of Invictus, another Prince Harry-produced project, missed the chart this week for its debut and did not get into any weekly Top 10 worldwide. It’s good that the former Royals are able to produce passion projects, but it would be even better for Netflix if somebody was to actually watch them.

In answer... You wish!

meercat23 · 06/09/2023 21:09

I am no great fan by any means but wishing a flop on him is a bit mean.

RoseAndRose · 06/09/2023 21:20

I don't think it's wishing a flop on them, rather than describing low viewing figures in that (crucial) first week.

There isn't much new content around at the moment (strikes) so it's a slightly easier environment to get good figures.

It's not about me wishing it, it's what the reports are saying. 🤷

I bet you are gloating about the so called flop.

I'm going to go and watch it, it seems really interesting.

MissElinorDashwood · 06/09/2023 23:00

It’s exactly as most of us said in the previous group. We wouldn’t expect record breaking numbers for a documentary about veterans. Not hitting the top ten doesn’t mean it’s a failure either.

One thing is for sure, it’s a success in that more people are now aware of the Invictus Games than not and due to this particular Netflix project, the Invictus Games Foundation has received significant funding as executive producers. Also, The Duke of Sussex and Archewell Productions are redirecting all compensation they would otherwise receive for this project to The Invictus Games Foundation, to support work with international wounded, injured and sick service personnel.

I personally think this has been a great project for Harry and the veterans. The Games are growing and more countries are participating , putting bids down to host future games and expanding in other ways beyond the Games.
This, as well as other significant projects, will end up being his legacy.

PR experts also agree not being in the top 10 doesn’t make it a flop.

I have watched a couple of episodes and found the veterans’ stories incredibly moving and it is quite humbling . I hope that the Games are a huge success .
Unfortunately Harry’s association has , in my opinion , tainted it . People are talking about him rather than the competitors. I still think it was a mistake and unbelievably self absorbed for him to yet again talk about his mother .

MissElinorDashwood · 06/09/2023 23:33

I’ve seen so much about the competitors from both the documentary and this years games. Social media is abuzz with regular updates, interviews, video footage etc from all countries apart from UK tabloids and broadcasters. They’ve given very little coverage to the veterans but that’s to be expected. Their vendetta takes priority. It is what it is.
That’s ok though, UK isn’t the only country in the world.

unbelievably self absorbed for him to yet again talk about his mother .

This comment disgusts me.

Gingerkittykat · 07/09/2023 01:30

I've just gone to find it on Netflix and it's trending even though it isn't in the top 10!

skullbabe · 07/09/2023 01:56

I looked quickly at the IMDB ratings, Common Sense media ratings and Google reviews - it is very apparent (as it has been on MN) from those ratings and reviews who actually watched the whole series and who watched a couple of episodes to find something to criticise specifically Harry. The positive/middle of the road reviews of the series are very informative and the negative reviews seem to veer along the lines of attacking Harry and following the media driven line that he was making everything about himself when it is very apparent from people who have actually watched it all that this is not the case.

Regardless of the Netflix charting , I was inspired by Yulia, Gabe, Keith, Tom, Na Hyeongyoon and the other soldiers’ stories and appreciate that they were given the forum to share.

Totally agree.

His previous media moans just overshadow the whole thing. People are interested in the vets but are sick to death of Harry.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 07/09/2023 07:44

Not making the Top 10 doesn't make this series or other programs, 'flops'. I feel sorry for people who would gloat about something like this. It must be a pretty unhappy life to wait and watch for someone to 'fail'. Worse to do so when it's an emotional and meaningful programme for those involved.
I do not expect everything they do to be number 1 hits and I certainly don't hope they're all failures.

I wish all the athletes the best of luck for the games and I hope it helps them overcome what they've been through.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 07/09/2023 07:47

*unbelievably self absorbed for him to yet again talk about his mother .

Me too. Wiliam talks about his mother all the time, his children wrote her a letter didn't they? Which he didn't need to tell the world.

If people don't want the focus to be on Harry for the series, theres an easy way to solve that. Don't focus on him. Talk about the athletes. You're literally blaming him for your own behaviour.

MissElinorDashwood · 07/09/2023 08:00

As I said - In My Opinion .

You don’t have to agree . Frankly I wouldn’t expect you to BUT I am entitled to my own opinion and it is one shared by many people .

Iwantcakeeveryday · 07/09/2023 08:14

There is only focus on Harrys few minutes on the documentary if you choose to focus on him. He's nowhere near the main story of the series so it's up to you where you focus your attention. You can;t complain he is the reason you're talking about him, you choose to. The athletes are the main focus and their stories are very moving. You decide what you talk about and focus on. Not Harry.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 07/09/2023 08:15

Nobody said you can;t have an opinion either, just that it doesn't make much sense to blame someone for the fact you choose to go on about them.

Mylovelygreendress · 07/09/2023 08:21

It’s not the length of time Harry is on screen , it’s what he said !

You obviously disagree , fair enough .

Iwantcakeeveryday · 07/09/2023 08:23

My point remains the same. You are still choosing to focus on him over the actual featured athletes. You don't need to, you choose to. That isn't his fault.

Samcro · 07/09/2023 08:24

agree the countless threads op and others start just to wish ill on someone they don't like. its obsessive behaviour.

longwayoff · 07/09/2023 08:29

How many people have lost Nflix access due to clampdown on sharing? Lots. No more free TV for old grannies like me and a subsequent drop in audience figures. This isnt, OP, Prince Harry's fault.

Angrycat2768 · 07/09/2023 08:32

The DM ( who don't have an agenda at all and are totally bias free...) have taken a miniscile part of the documentary and blown it up out of all proportion, then blamed Harry for taking the focus away from the veterans, when they are the ones who have done that, as well as all the obsessive Harry haters. Sadly, people arent that interested in veterans, and haven't been since the beginning of wartime. They get forgotten about almost as down as they come back home. Which is why there was a Need for Invictus and other veterans charities, why so many are homeless and unemployed and why so many have mental health problems. Without Harry, the doc wouldn't have been made on Netflix and wouldn't have been watched even as much as it has.

Totally agree. I was on my DDs but am not now. I am setting up my own but won't be doing it until the end of the month.
NFs subscribers have fallen so yes, there is a drop in audience figures.

Agree with @Samcro there is a desperation about finding something, anything, negative on Harry. And doing everything possible to get posters to agree. The thing is... with me, and I believe others, it makes me more firm, not less, on my support for Harry because the OTT criticism shows itself up.
