I'm really astounded there hasn't been a republican uprising.

colourwheelofortune · 26/09/2023 20:52

I'm pleased that the vindictive Sussex pair have done so little to dent the popularity with most people, and even their worldwide reputation has survived (see France/Germany/America). Their never complain never explain policy, was pretty near on the money, despite the provocation.

The republican faction do a good job shouting loudly and appearing to represent the majority. They don't. With C & C, and W & K, now stepping up for ever more public engagements, charity work, and global initiatives which raise their profile higher, the republicans are shouting in their own echo chamber.

colourwheelofortune · 26/09/2023 20:55

As for William not speaking Frence, spanish and probably german, what nonsense. The most intensive and expensive private education definitely gets you French, just as it did me in my very ordinary school, along with german, which I do speak fluently. French enough to get by. Languages are not difficult.

The stuff people make up to denigrate the RF is astonishing.

He says he doesn’t. Kate neither I don’t think.

Roussette · 26/09/2023 21:02

Does that mean William does speak other languages then?

My DCs are fluent in one other (state school) but one had the benefit of the fantastic Erasmus scheme and uses it regularly. One has working Portuguese and the other Chinese (what a slog that is!)

I would expect the Royals with their privileged schooling to be similar

Shrugs. Don’t know. Maybe he does have school French and I’ve definitely heard him speak a few words in Spanish.

upinaballoon · 26/09/2023 21:06

How many languages would Harry have learnt at his expensive school for the privileged?

3 posts in and we already have the utterly bizarre “who will we get instead, President Blair?” argument.

We will get who we VOTE for and Blair would be a million times better than Charles because when we don’t want him anymore we VOTE him out rather than just churning through the next mediocre entitled offspring.

🙄

What you will actually do is "VOTE" in the next "mediocre entitled" wanker that takes your fancy.

People are deluded if they believe that it will be any better. 🙄

No idea!

Don't really care given he's not representing the Monarchy on the world stage

The RF however are different and I'd like to think William has brushed up on his Welsh given his position as Prince of Wales

None apparently.

See above

While having the option to vote them out again even if political processes don't ditch them sooner.

If we're talking 'mediocre entitled wankers' it's worth considering that but for an accident of birth order Andrew would have been parking his lardy arse on the throne in May with nothing to be done about it until he turns his toes up.

Is that preferable?

colourwheelofortune · 26/09/2023 21:23

@AuroraCake Evidence he doesn't speak other languages or that he said this????

Google says otherwise and as he answered someone in Spanish recently I would not believe your statement without evidence.

Did they really stand a chance with that attitude?

Do you believe they have been ostracised from the family are you mad? Charles loves his family and all his grandchildren. That you can't take away from them is their family bond. The problem has always been the British people and the media. Charles embraces culture he is not ignorant and my partner has met him and he shook his hand. Out of all the royals C & C is his favourites.

Mylovelygreendress · 26/09/2023 21:38

I am sure that William speaks some Swahili.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 26/09/2023 21:41

I rather watch paint dry than listen to William or Kate.

Loomy · 26/09/2023 21:41

Unjust when they rest of us are struggling to make ends meet.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 26/09/2023 21:42

I agree @Loomy

LolaandChai · 26/09/2023 21:45

I think King Charles has done really well. I loved seeing the photos of the King and Queen in France, I never ever thought I’d open a paper and think Camilla looked glamorous!

I said he does speak a few words of Spanish and perhaps school French. But google does lie as he doesn’t speak Welsh. I would never say I could really speak French or Spanish. I’d probably say I could get by in a shop or restaurant and I definitely understand more than I speak but it’s in no way good. I have Belgian friends who basically speak Flemish and French as joint first languages. Learn English from the cradle by watching BBC. Learnt Spanish and German as adults. They wouldn’t say they were fluent in anything but their native languages but they are damn good in all those languages.

ThreeBearsPorridge · 26/09/2023 22:49

I do find it astonishing that given the amount of global interaction the Royals are expected to do that they don't make it an absolute priority to learn languages before anything else. Why on earth don't William and Harry speak fluent French and German, particularly as their family IS German? What exactly have they learned which has been useful at Eton I wonder. Charles can speak rudimentary French I think but that's about it. Same applies to him. It's not a great example abroad is it?

BadgerB · 27/09/2023 06:03

Carpediemmakeitcount · Yesterday 21:41

.... unless the alternative was listening to M & H . Well, actually Meghan when she has managed to grab a mic.

BadgerB · 27/09/2023 06:14
  1. A popular "voted in" President can do a lot of damage before s/he is "voted out".
  2. A president would not get the same high profile reception abroad, as did W in NY or C&C in France.

It seem the main Republican objection to the RF is that they are very rich. They'd still be rich if they became private citizens, and they'd no doubt protect their wealth using the same "loop holes" as the Dukes of Westminster etc.

DewinDwl · 27/09/2023 07:22

It seem [sic] the main Republican objection to the RF is that they are very rich.

If that is your take after everything people have posted on this thread, I have to conclude you are not posting in good faith. Nobody's reading comprehension can be that poor.
