The thing would be involved in some capacity (regent?) though at least until George comes of age.

King Harold?

Arf.

It's all academic. William is going to be king whether you like it or not

Not my king 😎

Well he's my king so that cancels it out.😎

Eh?

Has Charles turned his toes up?

They kept that quiet 😎

I'm alright with it.

I'm not really a monarchist, but I can see the positives and would not be in favour of abolishing them at this time.🤷‍♀️

A modern country does not need a monarchy- simple as that. I really resent any of my taxes going to support this outdated institution. It’s ridiculous that this family are meeting the most senior politicians and representing us abroad and have so much influence when they have not been elected to do so.

We can’t call ourselves a democracy while we still have a monarchy. Not to mention all the financial secrets/tax rules not applying to them etc. The most ridiculous thing was when William decided to raise awareness for homeless- perhaps donating a small part of an estate for social housing might actually have helped!

I have no objection to electing a president- we vote for a London mayor every few years - what’s the difference?

We live in a democracy - we are allowed to vote to abolish them. It may still happen. So no it’s not a given.

There is no difference but in a minute someone will come along and say “President Blair wha wha!” Happens every time.

It’s lost anything it did have. What it did have was respect for QE2. I’m 52 and not a royalist but she’d been there all my life. I cannot and will not give Charles and the consort any respect. They haven’t earned it or deserve it.

AngryLikeHades · 18/02/2026 13:56

Camilla has a nerve to take up that position and be so publicly visible given what she did to Diana.
Everybody knows what happened and I think she's quite audacious to take up the title and appear so regularly.
It's true that you can't help who you fall in love with, but I think the relationship should have been made less public and more muted, but I'm not suggesting they 'hide' it, but in all honestly, I don't think that she should have been permitted to become Queen Consort.

CurlewKate · 18/02/2026 15:16

People always we’ve got to have a Monarchy or we’ll automatically have a shit President. It’s almost as if they don’t know how things work. Actually, come to think of it, Blair would make a good President. He’s got good manners, he’s clever, knows how to behave in public, and understands foreign affairs. And, as President, he would have to be impartial and would have no actual power. William Hague would be good too.

Every time I hear on the news that The Queen has done something or other, I do a double take and then realise they are talking about the mistress. Sigh.

This is quite the worst pro-monarchy argument that I have ever read!
