The trailer for 'Heart of Invictus" has been released by Netflix, and it looks incredible, and so moving.

For those interested, please find it here.

That Bill was put forwards my one of the MPs for York.

I doubt the Sussexes were a consideration at all

Back to the Games - as Harry was one of the key players in moving the US Warrior Games concept into different countries, of course it's fine for him to be there and even to speak. But he really isn't involved much directly now, so I don't think he has a role now other than a bit of glad-handing.

I hope the rumours of Meghan speaking/hosting are wrong, as she doesn't have a role (it would be like Tim Lawrence speaking at an Olympic event - fine for him to be there as Princess Anne's +1, but not to have a role)

I dont think it's a big deal if Meghan does end up making a speech. Yes she may not be veteran herself but I didn't think you'd have to be one to be host/make a speech. It's just a show of support which is a good thing imo.

Hello everyone, we are getting quite a few reports about this thread being derailed so could we ask that we get this back on track now please. Posters who continue to derail the thread may have their accounts suspended which is something we would rather avoid.

Power couple?

Will the world’s media be following the Invictus Games because Harry and Meghan will be there? Why yes, they will.

Not sure that is the definition of power couple tbh. The media follow H now for all the wrong reasons, for his next sermon, for his next gaffe such as the alleged chase in NY.

It's a shame his name doesn't bring positive reporting. Rather IG is so full of brilliant people they are the stars and I think he hopes by association it may improve his profile.

skullbabe · 28/08/2023 12:23

These vets who have been through the mill, risen above it are a testament to the power of positive mental attitude. Nowadays when some seem to wallow, complain, blame and live with bitterness and resentment it really is great to see.

Interesting take - are the veterans who have PTSD, anxiety depression and suicidal ideation as have also been discussed in this thread the ones who are wallowing, complaining, blaming and living with bitterness and resentment because of their lack of a positive attitude? This is exactly what we are talking about when we say that some people’s zeal to attack one person you attack many.

Veteran Reacts to Prince Harry's 'Personal' Message on 'Car S.O.S.': 'He Has Done So Much'

Van Niekerk tells PEOPLE exclusively how much the message from Prince Harry meant to him.
"I'm one of those people that don't like to make a big deal about what's happened to me and what I do. I don't see myself as a hero but as just another person who's had a tough journey and now continuing to help others through my experience as part of my duty," he says. "But when I received that message from Prince Harry, it was so unexpected. I had no idea that was coming. He has such huge pressure on his shoulders and he has done so much in service of the veteran community and the country."

"For him to take the time to get to know my story and send that message saying all of those kind words and wishing me well for my future challenge was a huge honor," Van Niekerk added. "To hear appreciation from those around me is humbling but to hear it from a royal, who is also a fellow veteran, was very special. Also as this is all coming from someone who's also been through a lot and it wasn't just some generic message. It felt very personal and shows the mark of the man he really is. It made my sacrifice and effort feel appreciated."

Veteran Reacts to Prince Harry's 'Personal' Message on 'Car S.O.S.': 'He Has Done So Much'

Prince Harry made a surprise appearance on Car S.O.S. by sending a "personal" video to Lance Corporal Stephan Van Niekerk, a veteran who lost his legs during a 2009 tour in Afghanistan, who says the message meant so much

No, they are the ones accepting their limitations but finding solutions. Trying to keep pushing while able to talk openly about their ptsd and mh struggles. You don't see any blaming everyone else and living a life full of resentment and bitterness.

Yes let's ignore harry’s foibles and white wash his racist behaviour because of this upcoming documentary and games (the games he got by virtue of being a royal). Why, him saying that he saw the taliban as nothing more than chess pieces, compared killing to a video game, and then called someone a pki and rhead, oh and him getting special treatment by skipping a drug test, why it's all merely a misunderstanding and harry really truly is the hero/saviour that the veterans look up to. 🙄

Edited

I don't see how my post was "ignoring Harry's foibles and white washing his racism"? Did you mean to reply to another person's post by mistake?

I'm referring to the fact that many posters such as yourself have chosen to use the IG as another reason to cut him down, which is disgraceful, rather than focus on the veterans. Can't you comment on the Games, and the positivity of it all, without bashing Harry? Harry, who you say only "got it for being Royal" but at least he's created something successful. What has his brother – the future King – come up with that has been half as successful as this? Has William solved homelessness yet? Has Earthshot saved the world yet? Has he resolved the Middle East crisis? 😜 Or is he on yet another holiday? 😂 Yet, many veterans have said the IG have actually helped them an awful lot in terms of MH, self-esteem, and general coping with life after war and disability.

And you're not the only one who was offended by Harry's racism. I'm mixed race/Asian myself and found many of his incidents extremely offensive. I used to hate him as just another posh, twattish Hooray Henry. However he has addressed these in his book and in the Netflix document, he has admitted to his own ignorance and stupidity, he said it was his own fault that he didn't know basic things, such as "Pki" was not the same as "Aussie" or "Yank", and his own stupidity at not paying attention to school history lessons in relation to the Nazis. I think he was incredibly stupid, but I wonder what the other members of the family also say behind closed doors. After all, he is a product of his shuttered white, upper class background.

But I let that go because I believe he has lived and learned. Also I let it go because he has stood by his mixed race wife and continues to speak out and stand by her and their children. I actually love that about him. And I also let go of the fact that he now says it was unconscious bias (on behalf of his family at least - not the press) - this to me shows that he continues to learn and grow and has a more nuanced understanding of racism- the difference between UC and racism. I also stand by his efforts to bring the papers to court.
But carry on derailing this good thread if that's worth your while.

MamoruHisaishi · 28/08/2023 09:57

He has poor coping skills, how can you become the leader of a country if you can’t even handle flash photography? How can you be the leader of a country if you create enemies with the media? How can you become the leader of a country if you provoke the taliban by talking about having a kill count or comparing killings to playing chess or video games? Someone here sarcastically mentioned about the monarchy being based on meritocracy, and I wrote even if it were harry still wouldn't qualify for the role of King. Because he wouldn't.

This post has swerved off to a parallel universe.

He never will be, and was never expected to be “the leader of the country” or King.

Coping with things means finding a way to continue to live, hopefully well, with the condition. He seems to have achieved this.

Human to human we would do well to wish each other well.

queentim · 28/08/2023 13:54

MamoruHisaishi · 28/08/2023 05:50

Except the changes suggested wouldn't be based on meritocracy. Even if it was, given Harry’s lack of education and poor coping skills, he would still never be made king. 🤣🤣🤣

Remind us:

What level was Elizabeth's education again? 😂

Again, the belief that merit has anything to do with unearned privilege is hilarious for a monarchist.

Quite frankly, anymore derailing and I'll just report.

This thread is about the upcoming Invictus

MamoruHisaishi · 28/08/2023 02:17

That may be the case but other European royals have had their hrh/titles stripped from them so there is already precedence for this. It's ridiculous for children who didn't grow up/weren't born in the UK to still be in the line for monarchy, and to still be able to claim titles from a country they've hardly been exposed to.

Didn't the British government invite some German or Dutch royal to take the British throne centuries ago because they absolutely needed a protestant person on top and there was no suitable British-born person? Also I thought the Windsor family comes from Central Europe? What we now call Germany.

The British Royal family is such an entertaining beast.

The only “media” that “follow” PH is the rather nasty Murdock dynasty and the rather nasty Lord Rothemere (so?) of the Daily Mail also a good friend of Price Harry’s father. Tricky one that.

Reasonable publications who are bound by accountability report the news. When PH makes news, they report.

Be aware of the company you keep.

The global media follow Harold, awaiting his next tell all interview where he throws everybody under the bus and invades privacy. Not sure why you think It's just Evil Murdoch and the Evil Daily Mail.

Anyway, I'm sure he hopes he can claw back some credibility by mixing with the very inspirational vets at IG.

feellikeanalien · 28/08/2023 14:51

Surely, regardless of what you think of Harry, the fact that the documentary series is being made and publicising the games must be a good thing.

To be honest, if it wasn't for Harry's involvement how many people would really be aware of them.

No-one is a perfect person but I do get the impression that Harry cares about this project as he has had direct involvement with the armed services.

I don't like some of the things he has done but I think that his involvement with Invictus can only be a good thing for the games and also good for him to be involved in such a meaningful and positive event.

I am impatient waiting for this doc to come out tomorrow.

I am going through the process of being diagnosed with C-PTSD currently due to several (x10).traumas with my family since 2020.

I want to hear these peoples stories of how they overcome their mental health struggles hoping I can find something that clicks within me.

One of my C-PTSD triggers is the phone ringing, so I can see how the sound of cameras could trigger a person.

Anyway, I'm sure he hopes he can claw back some credibility by mixing with the very inspirational vets at IG.

‘Evil Murdoch’ is across 3 countries - total population of the three approx 450,000,00 - and in news media Murdoch covers print, online, tv. Many other crappy news sources just rehash Murdochs stuff. Same with the Daily Mail.

I didn’t know that the owner of the Faily Mail was a friend of Charles? A friend of Charles is owner of a paper that printed awful things about his daughter in law Meghan from the very first, snd Charles can’t do anything about it? Some friendship.

It’ll be interesting watching ‘Evil Murdoch’ et al try to balance tearing into Harry and Meghan while staying acceptably respectful of the Invictus Games. My bet is they’ll go after Meghan. Damned if I know how those journalist sleep at night. ‘Evil Murdoch’ can, no doubt. But the ordinary every day journos that work for him?

ALittleTeawithmilk · 28/08/2023 15:50
