'Not in the current climate. It would be seen by some parties as drawing attention away from Harry and attempting to take credit for his work'

It may be seen by Harry himself as drawing the limelight away from him and attempting to take credit. He doesn't seem keen to build bridges with his family, I'm not sure why you think he'd want any there

Maybe W&K will show up or release a 'we're so proud of our vets' statement, imagine the outrage on here if they did. How very dare they.

Why outrage? Why would anyone say that? I wouldn't. It's what they should be saying being the heir to the role of Commander in Chief. I would say "about time... you didn't acknowledge the last Invictus! Well done for that statement"

Yes, that would definitely happen.

MissElinorDashwood · 29/08/2023 19:54

I agree @Roussette .
I’m sure Harry and everyone on here would welcome any kind of public support for our veterans. They are deserving of the recognition. If it makes them feel appreciated and respected by those they have served, then that is all that matters.

@Janiie Will you be watching the Heart of Invictus series?

I think the relationship between Harry and William has completely broken down to the extent that it will be many years before they speak to each other again. Probably at their fathers funeral. They wont release a statement for Invictus.

MissElinorDashwood · 29/08/2023 20:21

A special appearance from the Duke.

my friend Harry had to
show up and crash the party.

“HELLO! understands that Netflix planned US screeners for this week that Archewell partnered on, and that the Duke wanted to surprise the audience and spend time with veterans in San Diego. Harry was given the most warm reception at the screening, with audience members screaming and cheering when he introduced the film as a surprise.
The father-of-two also spent time and took photographs with everyone who came up to him after the viewing to tell him how much they loved the documentary - and him.”

Edited

I'll have a look yes the participants are of course inspirational, living with and coping with illness and disability gives such a powerful message . I just hope it focuses on the service people and not Harry but hopefully even if knows the light should be not be shining on him so I'll give it a go.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 30/08/2023 08:57

I’m 2/3 of the way through the 1st episode of Heart of Invictus and it’s very good. It really is all about the vets and their families. Harry is his usual charming self.

(I had to turn off the tv and unplug it because an electrical storm has started. I nearly jumped right out of my skin. Damn thing is virtually overhead).

Iwantcakeeveryday · 30/08/2023 09:16

Oh no @ALittleTeawithmilk hope it settles down, I have a wasp nest on my house to deal with!

Its a very moving show so far. Some of these vets live in constant quite high levels of pain and their attitudes are still incredible. I am glad to see this isn't focused on physical disability only too. The entire team from Denmark suffers from PTSD. Part of the criteria for selection into the games, because most countries have more applicants than places, is who would benefit or needs it the most.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 30/08/2023 10:21

I just finished watching the end of the first episode. I was surprised to hear from the Korean vet that in Korea people with disabilities don’t go outside - they stay at home. Korean people are not used to seeing disabled people on the streets, and he’s changing that. It starts with him, he said. The American Vet who lives with constant pain is extraordinary. They all are. It’s also about the families.

And for those worrying that Harry would make it all about him, you’ll be pleased to know that Harry isn’t the focus - but it is nice whenever he appears onscreen. His empathy for his fellow vets is evident.

@Iwantcakeeverydayoh wasps! I’d rather an electrical storm than wasps! Be careful.

TallerSally · 30/08/2023 10:28

Really moving. Was in tears at some points. You just feel so sad for these people - to go from being at your peak and being seen as brave and heroic to pivoting into a world of pain, PTSD, pity, unemployment, family disruption and invisibility. Watched 2 episodes and learned a lot already about the world of army vets. Shocked to hear about the high suicide rate in the US.

But also inspired by the courage, of the vets but also their loved ones and the people dedicating themselves to supporting them.

Watching with my kids. A real teaching moment for them.

Thanks Harry and team, this is a hugely important initiative, rendered even more poignant by the war on our doorsteps in Ukraine.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 30/08/2023 10:30

I agree, Gabe has such a great sense of humour and is literally always in pain. I have had almost a decade of being unwell so he is a huge inspiration already.
I just want to give Tom a hug! He's still doing it and trying, but he looks so sad and still struggles to believe in himself. Its a tear jerker for sure!
For me Harry is a vet helping other veterans in this. I don't care that he's a British royal, but they know others will tune in because of that so he appears, but just now and then like other organisers.
Now I just wish all the applicants could take part! I'm feeling for them too, looks like a lot of people could do with being part of this, or something like this.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 30/08/2023 10:31

@ALittleTeawithmilk oh and yeah, thanks! we thought it was bees at first as one stung one of the animals, and I am allergic! But the volume suddenly increased so we got someone out yesterday. They went mad! It is crazy how many are around in general where we live.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 30/08/2023 10:38

Yes, this is what gets me the most. I wasn't anything like them but very active and sporty and being unwell and unable to be like that felt like someone took away a huge part of me. I cannot imagine how these men and women feel and watching them overcome so much is truly motivational. They're still in it too of course, which I appreciate them showing the reality. That it isn't, play sport and you'll be 100%. It's showing you how important hope and belief is, and how each day is a commitment to yourself.

This is such a good watch. The Ukraine war happening as they film it, makes you realise the impact so much more.

PrincessTigger · 30/08/2023 10:51

I’m not very far in but so far it’s everything I hoped it would be and not what I was worried it would be

Iwantcakeeveryday · 30/08/2023 10:55

get tissues for episode 3, this is fucking horrendous
