The trailer for 'Heart of Invictus" has been released by Netflix, and it looks incredible, and so moving.

For those interested, please find it here.

Because no one's said anything? Only a matter of time until some small comment will be misconstrued.

ALittleTea explains it well in what I quoted.

PrincessTigger · 29/08/2023 07:21

The whole reason the Invictus Games gets the coverage it does is because of Prince Harry. The media can’t cover every sport or every good cause. That may be a blessing at times and a curse at others. But expecting them to not mention that their patron has become controversial, viewers will think it’s weird.

Yes it's almost as if folk think he's there because he's just a bloke who did a tour of Afghanistan. No, he is patron because we was a working member of the rf, he has gone on to erm, i dont want to derail, but cast aspersions on the very institution and family causing hurt and ironically brought him more negative media attention.

To think the media won't question the participants on that is very naive. They are ex service men and women, they can handle the press fgs.

Roussette · 29/08/2023 07:33

Totally disagree. The Games are about inspiring people who have overcome adversity to show resilience against all odds. The fact Harry has fallen out with William is nothing to do with these brave people.

22 nations competing is incredible. These case studies are worth having a look at.

He hasn't just fallen out with William though has he. He has criticised, repeatedly, the very institution and family that these brave people represent.

It is fair to see if they have an opinion on that. They all seem to support him so that is good, no?

Roussette · 29/08/2023 07:44

Early days. They'll find someone eventually who makes a comment that can be built on to illustrate they all dislike him.

And what if they do, aren't these brave participants allowed a voice? If someone says 'well tbh I do get tired about the circus surrounding his presence' then so what?

I don't get it, I really don't. His staunch supporters will remain staunch and his critics will remain critics. The show will still go on.

Not to mention the lack of open support from the Royal family

Major support in the creation of the Games (Royal Foundation, other senior Royals and the senior military and therefore wider MoD, plus central government matching Harry's funding). Both the late HMQ and the then Prince Charles attended when it was in London in 2014 as did the Cambridges, and probably other royals too.

I don't remember any of the other royals travelling to Orlando, Toronto, Sydney, The Hague, Dusseldorf or Vancouver, nor any other senior British political figures travelling when not on their home soil (President Obama was at the Orlando games but I don't think any past or present presidents have travelled to Games outside their countries).

I think that the RF these days stay neutral about the Games because they no longer have a role. I think Harry has made it very clear that he was the founder, and since the splitting of the Royal Foundation there has been no admin or funding role. So I expect they would only comment on the Games if invited to. And there's been no suggestion that any have been invited and declined to go

(Though of course, PW even where he does have a role that means he damned well should attend something - like the first time in nearly 60 years an England team reaches the World Cup Final - he still chooses not to go. So perhaps Harry prefers to have more willing/committed people associated with the Games)

If I was KC (this is not me coming out, I’m not) then I do think this would’ve been an opportunity to deploy B&E or even Zara, a member of the family H doesn’t hate, to attend and show support. There are plenty of ways the RF supports veterans but this is a very high profile event and I’m sure the participants from the UK don’t want to feel like piggy in the middle between the patron of the games and their commander in chief.

An example of the british press being ugly was GMB asking Dave of Team UK if Harry and Meghan getting media attention was annoying. I thought it was a shame to ask that because ITV was there to focus on their training and anticipation for the games.

This was just in the past week.

GMB Interview

"Asked if H&m getting negative media attention was annoying " by the media who was at that precise moment giving them negative attention when they should have been concentrating on the games and the athletes!

beatan · 29/08/2023 08:29

Some incoming promotion for the Invictus Games.

Prince Harry will be a guest in the ZDF program "Aktuelles Sportstudio" September 9 joined by Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius (SPD) in the television program. The "Current Sports Studio" is moderated by Katrin Müller-Hohenstein and Sven Voss.

What a great idea.
Why on earth have they not done something like this

B is also now a counsellor of state I believe - so would’ve been quite a senior deployment

Janiie · 29/08/2023 09:01

'If I was KC (this is not me coming out, I’m not) then I do think this would’ve been an opportunity to deploy B&E or even Zara, a member of the family H doesn’t hate, to attend and show support'

I'd be like walking on eggshells, he quite possibly doesn't want their support, may well view it as interference or sticking oars in. It's his thing isn't it. They probably thing best to leave him to shine a light on it himself.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 29/08/2023 10:18

Of course they have a voice.

And the ‘circus’ that is surrounding Harry’s presence here, is the media circus.

It’s the Agenda of the press, that I have a problem with.

Roussette · 29/08/2023 08:54

Presumably because they haven't (IIRC) done so before (to Games overseas) and wouldn't start now unless invited.

Have they been invited?

Roussette · 29/08/2023 10:39

Have they been invited?

How would we know that!

I just think it would've been a great idea if there had been some presence from someone from the Monarchy. It's no good saying this is all Harry's show, no it isn't... it's about the brave participants from 22 nations.

AliceOlive · 29/08/2023 13:08

In my opinion it’s about the participants and it’s Harry’s time. Having RF there would be a distraction in the current climate. (Even here, on this thread some people want to talk about his relationship with the family more than the games.)

If Harry wanted wanted one of his cousins there he would ask and surely they would come.

onlylarkin · 29/08/2023 13:46

I agree with @AliceOlive .

Having a single memeber of the RF there would cause an even bigger media circus. Could ypu imagine the speculation articles?

Best they all stay away for this.

Whilst I agree with @AliceOlive and @onlylarkin it would still have been lovely for the Royals to support our veterans on home turf before and after the games. They failed to acknowledge them last year (not even a good luck message on their social media) and so far it’s the same this year. Such a shame! It makes the uniforms at ceremonies and the recent military titles seem rather performative.
They don’t have to be at the actual games to support them.
Another own goal 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyway, who will be watching early morning?
I hear it will be on at 8:00am GMT

Janiie · 29/08/2023 18:56

'If Harry wanted wanted one of his cousins there he would ask and surely they would come.'

They might you never know. The York girls seem lovely and able to rise above his mudslinging.

onlylarkin · 29/08/2023 18:56

I agree that it would be nice and that it is a glaring miscalculation on behalf of the RF to not support the veterans publicly. It does appear to be rather hypocritical. But I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. What can I say? I hope they didn't publicly support the troops because they know the media would be consumed with speculation and not because they don't give a shit. Charles, Andrew and William all are veterans, they care about the veterans (in my mind).

I hope it is because staying silent is a benefit to the veterans. They (RF and Harry) have shown they can act like adults in public when around each other, I cant image this is the RF being petty.

Edited

Not in the current climate. It would be seen by some parties as drawing attention away from Harry and attempting to take credit for his work.
