Harry and Meghan make surprise phone calls to young leaders in the US

I actually really liked this video, it’s them doing what they have always done best. I want to see more things like this, hope it marks a change in tactics.

It also has a very “royal” feel: e.g. there have been recent reports about a split but they’re not arguing in the gutter they’re rising above it and proving them wrong, they’re using their spotlight to shine onto other people, etc.

Only criticism: why are they filming people on the phone?! Makes me think of The Apprentice 😂 use Zoom!!

Contrary to your all knowing mind @Roussette I have read all about it and am entitled to post my opinion.

Everyone is entitled to post their opinion. I am glad you are well read on it.

It's a great initiative, a shame you don't think so. Anything that rewards those who fight against cyber bullying and making online presence less toxic for young people is brilliant in my opinion (see? I can post mine too!)

No need to be rude, nobody said you couldn't, but your post indicates you don't know anything about the initiative. Other people are also entitled to their opinions about your posts.

IMO there are loons on both sides.

I saw a comment from a W and K supporter (not here) that said that M and Hs children should be taken away from them because they left the UK and are not fit to raise their own children because they left.

Agreed - there are things on Twitter about how their H&M children are surrogate (at best) and how that their children shouldn't have any claim on the throne.

The thing is... OK we get it, H&M have their detractors. I just find it so frustrating to actually call a brilliant initiative 'something that is vague and tenuous' is so unfair. The kids loved the phone call, there is money being donated, responsible technology is needed and H&M brought exposure to it.

Post a load of insults about H&M if that's your thing, but don't drag the campaign to minimise cyber bullying into it.

Perhaps you need to take the time to read what Roussette said to me before you tag team?

"Do you actually know anything about it? Have you read up on it?
Obviously not."

Was she rude? Or was that just her opinion?

I don't know why people cannot post on here without this tag team attack on anyone who thinks differently and always reducing it to a personal level.

Roussette · 04/08/2023 09:02

What on earth is a tag team
I presume it means that if two people on a thread have a similar opinion, they are a tag team?

I was just taken aback at your post calling the initiative vague and tenuous. So I was sharp, I apologise if it came across as rude.

Sussurations · 04/08/2023 09:06

I like Meghan’s side parting.

The initiative seems good. It is fantastic for those involved that M&H’s/Archewell’s involvement brings them publicity. That’s worthwhile and arguably a good use of M&H’s time.

I thought the video was on the cringey side, and it was noticeable to me that Meghan appeared to be avoiding looking at Harry. I wasn’t looking for this, but I noticed it. Her smile (and mannerisms) tend to work in still photos but not so well on film.

I think the comparisons with the Royal Family are a bit silly. It’s part of their job to do public appearances. Having said that, although im sure M&H don’t mind being on the front of the Mail etc for this, other celebs/orgs could be doing such calls every day of the week and we might never hear about it - the attention on M&H is disproportionate.

Your initial post was a very dismissive of what most people would consider a really good initiative and the exposure it will now receive because H & M are involved. So her response was proportionate to your unkind one, IMO. Two posters agreeing is not a 'tag team'. Nobody is attacking you either, we are resounding to your multiple rude posts. I have never engaged with you ever before so not quite sure why you've entered the thread so aggressively.

Samcro · 04/08/2023 09:51

meghan really can't win. looks at harry, gets slated. doesn't look at him , omg divorce is on the cards.
maybe she was giving attention to the people they were talking to

Omg that stuff is batshit. All that stuff about her bump looking fake.

LaMarschallin · 04/08/2023 10:12

A minor point about the "agreeing and/or tag teaming" (which does happen, imo, on both sides) - it makes me yearn for a "Like" button.
At the moment, the "Quote" button is tiresomely overused, imo. Someone will make some massive post that others agree with, but instead of just saying they agree with it, some posters have to quote the whole lot it again, just to add "This!" or "Great post!" or just 👏.
I could understand if the post was a few hours before but it's often just after and you get three repetitions of it.
I know! Scroll on by. But my scrolling digit is getting blisters.

And, while I'm being irrelevant, I'm more and more glad that I'm not on Twitter (even if I felt I could waste more time on the internet). Fake bumps and surrogates sound deranged and I'm sure there's equally batshit stuff posted about W&K (there's certainly been a flavour of it here).
Anyway. At the very least, I'm sure the people who received the calls were thrilled and will probably return to what they're doing with even more enthusiasm.

I entered the thread aggressively because I gave my opinion on Harry and Meghan and their role in this? Now that's a new one... I am allowed to be dismissive of their role if I wish. I didn't say anything about their supporters being stupid because they love it.

As you have now pointed out you seem to think there are rules for one and rules for another on here in your eyes - it is OK for Roussette to make a "proportionate" reply when she said to me I obviously knew nothing about it because she disagreed with my opinion but I am not allowed to rate it with her? She in fact has apologised for it. You meanwhile are intent to carry this on. Perhaps you need to remember the MN comments on these kind of posts about targeting people with personal attacks. Anyway you have again shown how some posters on here treat people who do not agree with them.

KPops22 · 04/08/2023 10:20

raise it with her not rate it...

Roussette · 04/08/2023 10:44

KPops I apologised for being snappy but I set out very clearly what I felt was so wrong with your post at 08.53.
Why use a great initiative as a means to knock H&M?
Very unfair.
And that is why I said you obviously can't know anything about it. Because who would knock this... it's beyond me, so I imagined you can't know about it, and yes, I did disagree with your opinion and that hasn't changed. It was just an opportunity to knock H&M for no reason, it's been very well received elsewhere.

I wish we could have a proper discussion on this. They were a founding member of the Youth Technology Power Fund... yet you want to disparage their role in it? Why, just why? They did a vid congratulating some winners, they didn't use their titles, what is so wrong.

Sometimes on here, I am beyond perplexed.

When your opinion includes words like 'claptrap' and 'glib' about an initiative that involves protecting young people, I think you can expect to be challenged. @Roussette wasn't aggressive or attacking to you, she merely said, do you know anything about it. You were then rude and personal and were also rude to me, accusing us of 'tag teaming' and attacking because we felt your post was very unkind about what is a great thing for young people. I am very well aware of targeting people with personal attacks, and that's why neither @Roussette or I have engaged in that. On a forum people disagree all the time, the doesn't equate to a personal attack. However, your posts are very personal and accusatory. I think we should leave it there.

skullbabe · 04/08/2023 11:32

It's more of the same old claptrap - getting the limelight about something that is so vague and tenuous

The responsible technology movement is about:

  • Building, shaping, and stewarding our tech ecosystem to safeguard human rights
  • Leveraging technology platforms to address social, cultural, political, or environmental problems
  • Ensuring equitable access to the benefits of technology
  • Mitigating the harmful impacts of technology in communities

I understand you may not like H&M but this is hardly vague nor is it tenuous. The young people who were recipients described each of their initiatives clearly and it is really mean spirited to describe their efforts just because of their proximity to H&M as claptrap.

Samcro · 04/08/2023 11:33

another day and another poster targeting "hi profile" pro H&M posters. seems to happen to often to be a coincidence.

My references were to H and M not the young people. You misunderstood my post.

To be honest, knowing about the initiative makes it even worse! Because you are obviously only rubbishing it, because H&M are involved.
Which is unfair. And I said this in my previous posts.

Don't drag in a very worthy Tech Group that is trying to do good... just to knock H&M who were founder members and have donated money to it.

FloofCloud · 04/08/2023 13:32

Cyber bullying / tech issues etc is very topical and will no doubt grow and grow. My suspicions, yes perhaps like KPop is a 🙄 however they have form for elevating themselves off the back of others and doing very little ... I hope those children go a long way in their ideas and expertise, and I hope H&M don't just monetise off the back of these children.
