I came across some old threads in other forums and also articles where Catherine was being criticized for being lazy, dumb, overrated, a gold digger and called all sorts of names. There were even threads that questioned why people disliked her so much, and multiple pages of replies stating why she was so disliked. I am wondering why this seems to have now been forgotten, even if Meghan became the new media target, why is it hardly mentioned the amount of hate and vitriol that Catherine went through?

“Nasty” is such an ugly word. I also don’t think we should be judging any one woman’s experience against others.

I’m not sure why anyone would make a post like this anyway. It’s just wholly unpleasant and unkind to all women.

Why has an old thread been reactivated? , haven't we got enough of them for posters to slag of Kate?

I usually notice it because everything is fairly quiet here otherwise.

Also funny because the same posters will ignore me completely if I post anything supportive or defensive of Meghan. It’s not what they want to see. Very telling.

I very rarely mention m at all but still get jumped on and lumped in with other posters! 🤷‍♀️ , it is what it is sadly!

Does William (and Charles before him, and Georgebin the future) actually have much discretion over how the Duchy funds are used? I always understood that the fund was carefully controlled by trustees appointed by the Treasury or a branch of government. So this isn't William's money, but money for the benefit of his family, in a carefully cobtrolled trust. I doubt he could give surplus away.

The heir to the throne is given the revenue from the estate and can use it to fund their official work, private expenses and charitable work as they see fit.

The Duke of Cornwall is not allowed to do anything to the management of the estate which would significantly change the capital of the estate - so there is a system of government oversight for that - ie the Duke can’t sell off big chunks and keep the money for himself.

But he can choose how to spend the revenue. Charles was the first Duke to make the annual accounts public and easily accessible online - so it’s also possible to see ‘roughly’ how the money is being spent but not the smaller details.

So for example the accounts show that before Harry left the country that Charles was spending about six million supporting the households of William and Harry. But we can’t see exactly how that six million was divided between them and it’s not shown whether he was just giving them the money upfront or whether they were submitting invoices and getting reimbursed.

So as William can choose how to use the revenue as he sees fit, he can use any portion of it to fund charitable stuff.

And trying to wipe my brain clean of all the stuff I've read on here and elsewhere over the past few years, it's just a massive puzzle to me why or how anyone rational could 'hate' Kate (or Catherine, as we should call her). What on earth has that woman done? She smiles, she's friendly and professional, she doesn't rock the boat*, she's clearly a loving mother, she puts up with a hell of a lot of stuff which would break most of us etc etc. and actually may have impacted her mental and physical health for all we know (it certainly would mine!).

The only motivation I detect for the unpleasantness is from those who set her against Meghan - either in their own minds or in some actual situation - or those who feel she is an affront to their feminist principles just by quietly fulfilling her traditional role. Makes me so cross because some jobs are not about rocking boats and making it about you - and hers is one.

*I suspect that's partly what winds up some of MN's more militant members!

Catherine is said to have been bullied at school for being tidily dressed, well-behaved and achieving...and it seems many people still see those things as a good reason to give someone a kicking. How sad they are - but they do real damage, so shouldn't be excused or dismissed.

I really don’t get what all the fuss is about. So a picture was slightly changed. Big deal. Lots of famous people have their pictures doctored. The Press are upset because they see it as their job to manipulate the masses.

Thanks @LadyPenelopeForever for this. I was wondering about all the hate for Meghan on this site and the post from @AcesBaseballbat about the history on here is illuminating! Some will say anything to ‘blacken’ the Sussex family. I note that it was a few months ago that people were still contributing on this thread. I don’t see any rules either about not using it.
