Grifters indeed! Can we have a lift Joe?

H&M asked if they could have a lift home on AF1 after HMQs funeral.
Environmentally friendly sure, but makes them look grabby and entitled again. Makes for a good story though.

Here you go @Roussette

Interesting that you criticised those likening it to Wallis without knowing which outfit we were talking about 🤦‍♀️

I do know, I clicked link above. I criticised the idea

Good grief. The world's gone mad and how weird that this 'theory' was not done to death when posters were endlessly criticising her the day after. It was all about the collar and fit, no mention of Wallis!

I'll stick with my 'what a reach ' comment

It is very similar though, I don't know why she'd copy Wallis as Meghan is much more attractive and I thought her "version" was actually much better done that the Wallis version.

If I didn't have a life betcha I could Google Wallis outfits and fine v similar to something Kate eore

Roussette · 24/07/2023 11:24

Wore

Maireas · 24/07/2023 11:25

Plus, @Mylovelygreendress , when a working royal, Meghan never wore "bland colours" - I often thought that was a strange claim of hers. I really liked her style, loved the bright yellow dress she wore when recently married, the bright blue shirt dress, the cherry red top and skirt and the purple coat.

FloofCloud · 24/07/2023 11:36

One similarity to Wallis Simpson is probably fluke, fashions coming around etc... but there have been sooo many .. too many to think it's coincidental

well the designer who did her engagement dress said Wallis was her biggest inspiration. Whatever else we say about Wallis, plenty of people actually liked how she dressed. Elsewhere people bang on about the 'messages' Kate is sending by dressing Louis like Harry too. Its all crazy to me.

Ridemeginger · 24/07/2023 11:46

There’s a Wikipedia page on Kate’s blue engagement dress. The designer says the inspiration for that dress was a gown belonging to the designer’s grandmother.

skullbabe · 24/07/2023 11:48

The coat is indeed similar to the one Wallis wore. But then so are so many of the outfits that she has worn. But then she also wears similar things to what Diana has worn - and for that matter Kate too. I also noticed that she also wears/wore the same things Ivanka Trump did.

I wonder what that could all mean? Surely with her intelligence she should be able to find a completely orginal outfit for every occasion at all times and if she doesn't then she absolutely is sending a coded message everytime. Isn't she awful?

Maireas · 24/07/2023 11:49

Kate did Art History at St Andrews.
She's very visually literate. I find it hard to believe that on entering the royal family and marrying an heir, she would wear a dress with any link to Wallis Simpson.

Ridemeginger · 24/07/2023 11:54

That article is behind a paywall. Is it saying that the blue dress itself was inspired by WS (so the Wikipedia page is wrong), or that the designer in general is inspired by WS? Not that I am surprised, WS was a fashion icon, whatever her repulsive personal views. But there’s a difference between inspirational style (and Wallis would have been wearing high fashion styles of the era that many other women also wore, they just weren’t photographed as much), and deciding to dress almost identically to WS, in the presence of the woman towards whose mother and father WS contributed so much distress.

skullbabe · 24/07/2023 11:55

Good god! Seriously though, if anyone has an interpretation of Kate's motivation for the Wallis inspired dress that isn't to do with upsetting the Queen and/or diverting attention to solely herself I think many would be interested to hear it.😉

Exactly, up until the coat and gloves I'd have said coincidence.

But I can't work out the motivation.
Nor can I work out who first made the connection.

Ridemeginger · 24/07/2023 12:00

Remember The Tig blog at the time of Catherine’s wedding? Meghan said she’d rather be the rebel princess/She-Ra. Diana and Wallis were both rebellious against the RF. Diana in particular used her outfits to send messages. Wallis was a would be queen in exile, married to the public’s favourite prince.

Maireas · 24/07/2023 12:03

Good grief. She said that?

skullbabe · 24/07/2023 12:14

She actually said

"“Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about <a class="break-all" href="https://href.li/?en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She-Ra:_Princess_of_Power" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">She-Ra, Princess of Power. And grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate. So when my dear friend, Misan Harriman, introduced me to Princess Alia Al Senussi, I had a bit of a “pinch-myself-I’m-emailing-with-a-princess” moment. The Al Senussi family was exiled from Libya when Gaddhafi seized the throne in a coup d’état. But that hasn’t stopped Alia from flexing her respective royal muscle. Alia is on the Board of Trustees for <a class="break-all" href="https://href.li/?globalheritagefund.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Global Heritage Fund, where she concentrates on their activities in Libya.
So yeah, she’s cool. "

In an article about Princess Alia Al Senussi.

So no - she did not say she'd rather be a rebel princess - She-ra was literally a female He-man character - so not at all rebellious.

It’s also interesting to note that the head to toe Dior look Meghan wore to the service was said to come from Dior’s Spring 2022 couture collection, which featured a floor length belted trench coat in the same fabric. The style worn by Meghan was completely different to the runway look though, so she didn’t pick it from their look book, she had it made for her. Normally that would mean she chose the style (that’s the whole point of spending £££ on couture, you get exactly what you want as opposed to buying something off the peg).

myrtleWilson · 24/07/2023 12:15

@Ridemeginger The Issa designer Helayel named Wallis as her inspiration when previewing her Fall/Winter (2011/2012) collection at London Fashion Week in Feb 2011 - so not specifically related to the engagement dress

Maireas · 24/07/2023 12:16

Thanks, @skullbabe - definitely not a rebel princess.

Ridemeginger · 24/07/2023 12:23

Thanks @skullbabe for the correction. Princess of Power.

Thank you @myrtleWilson

As has been pointed out before not all criticisms of M stem from racism. It is the lies and bending of the truth that speak for her.

It was a character-revealing moment when Meghan publicly dismissed Kate’s experience with the press.

I suppose it is because I'm not interested in fashion but I always think she looks her best in a pair of jeans with a shirt. Maybe it is because she tends to look relaxed and happy in those pictures or maybe I just like jeans and shirts.
