Grifters indeed! Can we have a lift Joe?

H&M asked if they could have a lift home on AF1 after HMQs funeral.
Environmentally friendly sure, but makes them look grabby and entitled again. Makes for a good story though.

As has been pointed out before not all criticisms of M stem from racism. It is the lies and bending of the truth that speak for her.

I have never seen anyone on this board ever say that all criticism of Meghan stems from racism. Ever. Samcro was merely pointing out that the treatment in the press is different because of racism.

There is really no need every time racism is mentioned for people to jump in with 'thats not the reason for everything'. We know that. It just looks like you're minimising racism when you respond that way.

Maireas · 24/07/2023 09:37

You know that dreadful monkey picture wasn't "the press". I wouldn't defend the tabloids, but that was a SM image from Danny Baker which was widely, and rightly, condemned.

Samcro · 24/07/2023 09:22

i do find the "waity Katie " that is dragged up on these threads weird. she waited years to marry him, (posters use that as a way to bash H&M) as "insults" go its not up there with racism.

Or naked photos.

Do not jump in on me and accuse me of being racist or of minimising racism. That is a personal attack. Who do you think you are?

there was no such accusation in my post. It may not be your intention, but that is what it looks like to some poc when posters respond that way to any mention of racism.

This is what you said and if that is not personal then what is?

Yes, that's right, if you read the subsequent posts.
It wasn't about challenging the line of succession, however, the PM had to ensure 1. Bertie would take the Crown, not abdicate himself 2. The other brothers would not support Edward in the matters related to his abdication.
As pp have said, it was a Constitutional crisis, and new territory for everyone.

So you agree that when you said Among the deliberations were concerns about Bertie's ability, and discussions included his brothers Henry and George. In the end, for the sake of stability, they decided on Bertie you got it wrong? Because they didn't decide on Bertie, he was next in line and they had to get on with it.

I do apologise, as I said upthread when I clarified this originally, and we continued to talk about it.
Discussions were held. The situation needed to be settled that 1. Bertie would take the Crown as next in line 2. His brothers would support him and not Edward.

Maireas · 24/07/2023 09:57

He didn't actually have to get on with it, he felt it was his duty not to abdicate as well.

Maireas · 24/07/2023 09:59

@Iwantcakeeveryday - why accuse @Gingerboy22 of minimising racism? You don't know anything about that person or their life?

So when I say that M has told many lies or variations and that is how it appears to many people of ANY colour then that is your opportunity to listen and learn from that? Or not? Or is your viewpoint superior for some reason? Please don't continue to pull me into your preconceived ideas about what others say and do. Give to others the same respect that you like to have. You know nothing about me or my background.

I didn't say he had to get on with it, he could have abdicated, but his brothers had to just get on with it as they didn't have a choice. He was the King by right.

There is no need for you to add fuel. I explained it. It is what it looks like and feels like to me and other poc, whether that is the intention or not. You should always be willing to hear and listen to how something feels for someone from an oppressed or marginalised group. Reacting like tis a personal insult is an easy way, again, to dismiss the point.

I do not see how you can link racism and experiences of racism to 'opinions about people'.

and yet YOU jumped in to add the fuel on what I said to Samcro. Again is it rules for you but not for others?

Maireas · 24/07/2023 10:04

@Iwantcakeeveryday "you should always be willing to hear and listen".
I couldn't agree more.
Plus. I am allowed to comment. My comments are no more "fuel" than yours, or anyone else's.

pintery · 24/07/2023 10:05

Hey, now that people are back on the thread, does anyone have any thoughts about Meghan wearing the Wallis dress to the platinum jubilee service?

Iwantcakeeveryday · 24/07/2023 10:05

I won't be engaging further on this. I have made it clear what my comment meant and anyone who actually cares about racism can take that on board and try and understand it.

Maireas · 24/07/2023 10:06

Very, very interesting, @pintery .
Clothes and styling are most definitely a message, aren't they?

I probably give it as much thought as I do Kate and William dressing Louis and George in identical outfits to Harry at similar ages or Kate wearing outfits that look like Diana. I am guessing sometimes people wear things that have similar vibes to things other people wear and most of the time it has no real relevance.

But then don't you have an equal obligation to hear and listen from people who are telling you that the thoughts and feelings they're expressing are not about racism? Surely on these boards it's about mutual respect.

No.

Because I have no idea what you mean. She wore a dress. Likening it to Wallis Simpson is a daft reach. Shock

There was enough effing criticism about her outfit at the time. She looked great.

Exactly. I don't think there are enough colours, dresses and styles in the Universe not to look similarly dressed to someone else at some point. Only M&H detractors would link it to a disgraced Nazi sympathiser ex Royal's wife.

Yes. And she is very aware of appearances, as would those who dress her. She's an actress after all and has always had expensive PR support - added to the dress from the Oprah interview there is theme going. Whether it was a 'I can mess with the RF' message or a 'two American divorcees caused havoc in the RF' who knows.
