Are they considered close friends? And Gayle, Oprah's bestie, is she still on side H&M...she appears to have gone quiet.
Or has the now known lies from their Oprah interview changed their friendship I wonder?
It all seemed so pally but did it stand the test of time?

I wonder why the Oprah interview has been removed from the internet? Apart from a few clips recorded by others it's been erased. It seems strange that such a talked about and widely watched interview should have gone. I wonder if Oprah now regrets she gave so little thought to the content and was so restrained in her interviewing? I don't believe as many do it was a collaboration designed to destroy the monarchy but OW opting to believe blindly the lies she was fed. Surprised too she is not a godmother to one of the children as she has been a strong supporter like Tyler Perry. Very odd

Roussette · 07/07/2023 20:26

You can find the script of the interview easily

costacoughee · 07/07/2023 20:55

I said the interview not the script. The tv show would be such a money spinner for OW and her company as it was so widely viewed and so controversial. Maybe being a billionaire means she doesn't need to reproduce this for posterity?

Roussette · 07/07/2023 21:00

I have no idea! I look at the script, the words, because when it's misquoted as it often is, I can check ✅

It on YouTube 1hr24 mins

Roussette · 07/07/2023 21:01

Ignore the link. Sorry

But it appears to be there.

costacoughee · 07/07/2023 21:07

But why hasn't OW s company reproduced this officially? Surely this is a money spinner for her. That link isn't official

Did laugh at the comment underneath though. 2 millionaires interviewed by a billionaire 😂😂😂

No idea, it's not on my mind. It's there if you want to see it. Or a script everywhere if you want to read it. What does it matter?
It's not hidden.

Maybe ask Oprah?!

The US broadcaster (CBS?) had the rights to show it for a couple of weeks and then she said it wouldn't be shown again. I think her intention was just to let them air their grievances rather than it be a money-spinner. I wonder if she gave the profits to charity seeing as Harry took no money for it.

It always,seems money finds money.

costacoughee · 07/07/2023 21:56

It's very odd OW put the lid on it after such a short time I wonder if the backlash around the lies and criticism of her lack of robust interviewing was the reason? It exposed her as more of a sycophant than a critical thinker which was what her career was built on.

As this thread is about OW and H&M it is them I am interested in discussing rather than looking at the interview itself. It's been widely criticised and exposed for what it was. I'm more interested in the people and their motives and the fallout.

Gracewithoutend · 07/07/2023 22:00

She'd made that decision before it was shown. I don't think there was a backlash in the US.

Maybe she is Godmother to the children...I thought they kept the Godparents names super secret, for a reason that has no understanding.

It does seem to have disappeared, I looked to try and see if a memory of it was true (so easy to mis-remember) - that the subject of someone saying something about Archie's potential skin colour/prince title/security came up when Harry joined the interview. He started to say 'well...' and Meghan put her hand over his and he went quiet. My impression was he was about to clarify the situation, but Maghan headed him off.

I might be completely wrong, which is why I wanted to see the relevant part of the interview again. But I haven't been able to find it.

Clarification at that point could have been so helpful in understanding what exactly Harry and/or Meghan were alleging. But it's a long time between watching the interview and discussing it here, so I might be wrong

We are talking about Oprah Winfrey here -one of the biggest broadcasters of a generation in the world.

What other name has her reach?

She is female and she is black. Unbelieveable achievement.

If you are implying that the interview is not to be found because Oprah is embarrased then give your head a wobble.

Rights will be tightly controlled on an interview like this.

ffs

People are truly nuts.

@costacoughee you really do not understand anything about broadcasting.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/07/2023 08:06

The Oprah interview was never freely available "on the internet", so I am not sure where this misinformation is coming from that it has now been "scrubbed" off the internet.

CBS is a commercial station. It sold rights to ITV and other broadcasters around the world. In addition, snippets were aired to publicise the interview.

But Oprah did not record it for charity, it was for commerce, and you will not find it freely available on the internet. It is still available on the original channel CBS, if you are signed up to CBS, and is available on their app. So no, not scrubbed off the internet. Just not freely available outside the broadcast channel that aired it. You know, like how commercial broadcast works on the basis of licensing?

Some of you may wish to spend a little less time on all those free anti-Meghan YouTube Chanels, because they've given you the wrong idea about how normal commercial broadcast works!

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/07/2023 08:10

@IamSTARVING

Our posts crossed !!

It's comical that people here seem to think CBS and Oprah operate at the same level of "watch me for the clicks" and "press the bell to subscribe" -- like their favourite YouTube conspiracy theorists!!

Oprah is Oprah.

Leilani from Barbados she most definitely is not!!

costacoughee · 08/07/2023 08:31

@Milcar Yes I've managed to see that clip despite there being no reruns on CBS or anywhere official which makes it clear the backlash that started in the UK at screening has spread to the USA following Netflix and the book ...meaning their popularity has tanked in the country they chose as their home. Massive miscalculation on their part as they are ridiculed now no one is afraid of their PR.

The clip you mention is so laughable in it's calculated deception. Meghan twice leaves OW with the impression that multiple conversations took place with her when she was pg with Archie over his skin colour, his security and not getting a title if he was too dark. All lies. Only on the third time of asking does she admit it was said to Harry. Then harry comes in and attempts to set the record straight (it was said to him, once, before they were married, in a (poor taste) joke and the title and security were assured). She puts her hand over his and controls him into following her narrative.

I have seen it and it's a masterpiece in manipulation and deception. She would make a good politician

And of course it's odd Netflix are still running their docuseries and Oprah has opted for this shameful lie fest to be pulled. She doesn't need content or the money unlike Netflix. Oprah's reputation as a serious and honourable interviewer has crashed and burned now. She was friends with Harvey Weinstein so this interview was a similar lack of good judgement in my opinion.

Roussette · 08/07/2023 08:44

Oprah's reputation as a serious and honourable interviewer has crashed and burned now.

Believe me, it reallly hasn't. Much as you would like anyone who has even spoken to Meghan or associated with her to crash and burn, that is just not the case.

It is very odd to demonise anyone who speaks to Meghan but doesn't demean, insult or slag her off.

Ohpleeeease · 08/07/2023 09:05

OW was never a serious and honourable interviewer, she works in the entertainment industry, she’s not an investigative journalist. I’m not denigrating her achievements or her skills, which are impressive, but people expected more from that interview than she was ever going to deliver.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/07/2023 09:07

Yes, indeed, her reputation has crashed and burned, in the limited world of your imagination @costacoughee.

Just not in the real world, where she is still valued and appreciated. Just this week, she's been hanging out with VP Kamala Harris. Oprah is an American icon, a global inspiration, and an example to black girls and women everywhere of what you can achieve with hard work and ambition.

Her reputation is rock solid, in part because it was not built on one interview, but on a lifetime of work. I am willing bet you have not followed her career over the years, or watched one interview she did, beyond the one with Harry and Meghan.

As for the Harvey Weinstein slur: He has 81 Oscar wins to his name, including acting Oscars for:

Daniel Day Lewis
Michael Caine
Nicole Kidman
Brenda Fricker
Catherine Zeta Jones
Holly Hunter
Judi Dench

etc etc

Are you accusing all these people, including Camilla's pal Judi Dench , of bad judgement too, because they worked with or were friends with him before his harassment and sexual exploitation of women came to light?

Do you apply the same standards to Charles, with respect to his friendship with Jimmy Saville? Or even Andrew, who continued is association with Epstein AFTER he was indicted?

Or is it only Oprah you have in your sights, because she interviewed two people you clearly do not like?

costacoughee · 08/07/2023 09:11

Please don't insult me or my intelligence. The facts speak for themselves. Oprah has said very little in defence of her program or the couple. Her silence is deafening. She was played like a fiddle and manipulated on the world stage. That must hurt hence the silence.

A real friend would be out and loud defending the couple. She isn't.

Howsimplywonderful · 08/07/2023 09:18

The Oprah interview was frustrating as there were no specifics in the racism claims (who, when, where).

Oprah was happy to let them ‘speak their truth’ but not interrogate them. I presume this stance was agreed in advance with the couple (I did listen to the podcast about the Lance Armstrong interview which is interesting)

I do think Oprah is hugely talented.

Ohpleeeease · 08/07/2023 09:24

OW is a shrewd business woman, she knew what she was doing. She didn’t need to alienate the Sussexes by asking them difficult questions, her friendship with them is intact (though I suspect more distant than claimed) and she got paid.
