Are they considered close friends? And Gayle, Oprah's bestie, is she still on side H&M...she appears to have gone quiet.
Or has the now known lies from their Oprah interview changed their friendship I wonder?
It all seemed so pally but did it stand the test of time?

I am such a a fan of Angela Lansbury, she was such a talent. She moved to ireland to protect her kids when they got mixed up the the Manson crowd.

My brother used to type on his typewriter like she did in the intro of the show when the theme started and then slide to the piano to play the theme song - glorious fun.

Have you seen her in the black and white movie ‘Gaslight’? She was amazing.

Was that the film she got an Oscar for? She was still working in theatre well into her 90s. I think she was fab.

I loved The Waltons too but as an adult the thought of feeding, clothing and keeping track of a third of a school class brings me out in hives...

Ohpleeeease · 15/07/2023 11:22

We should do that here….🤣

I don’t think Oprah is a good judge of character, despite her enormous success and influence, she’s very easily led and falls for some real snake oil salesmen.

AliceOlive · 16/07/2023 20:14

I think we will never know exactly what Oprah thinks about anyone until she writes her memoirs. But what a brilliant business woman. A million little pieces? Not her fault.

CathyorClaire · 16/07/2023 21:10

I think Oprah is primarily led by Oprah's bank balance.

I understand it was the opposite, it was harry and Meghan who wanted to do Oprah, they approached her, well before the wedding, they wanted to do an interview and the palace said no. She was then invited to the wedding by harry and Meghan and even given a pre interview at their cottage, where they showed her just how small it was.

This is wrong, and has been contradicted at least twice, using direct words from all persons concerned. The only reason you know she visited their cottage is because you heard them say she did, so it is interesting that you chose not to believe the rest of what they, and Oprah, have put on record on this subject.

All three confirmed in the interview that yes, Oprah wanted to interview them. It was a huge story, an independent American mixed-race woman marrying into the very white royal family. For Oprah especially, it would have been a huge interview for the US market.

Harry and Meghan declined on palace advice, as they confirmed, and Oprah confirmed in the interview. But they established a warm relationship, with Oprah becoming close to Doria. Harry and Meghan then left and nothing prevented them from talking to a woman who, by this time was their neighbour, and their friend.

Oprah is really close to Tyler Perry, in fact, she is their link to TP. Black Twitter had much fun with memes around the fact that the grandson of the Queen had to be "rescued" by two black billionaires, who both grew up dirt poor but now "rescued" a prince and his wife.

oprah is a business woman first and foremost, of course she wanted to do it, what a coup. I think folks are forgetting the six part doc series they did next going even further, evidence of their desire tk do this.

Yes, Orah wanted to do it, which is why she approached them.

it’s not like they did Oprah, expressed regret and got on with doing other stuff. They doubled down on it and did Netflix then a book and harry did multiple interviews to flog it. And Meghan even accepted an award for battling racism in the royal family, and that battle was in part cemented in the Oprah interview.

Not sure why they should express regret? You forget that during the lockdown, the stories about them were absolutely crazy, even as they were doing nothing. You also forget that some in the press actually said "they can expect no mercy". They had every right to speak to counter the kind of disinformation you have given in this very post. It's curious that Jeremy Clarkson is defended for sharing his violent sexual fantasy about Meghan, but Meghan is excoriated for daring to speak about her own experiences. I guess free speech is not free to all!

Some more misinformation from you as Meghan did not accept an award for "batting racism in the royal family". That was the Daily Mail spin on it. You are welcome to read the actual citation yourself. It does not mention the Royal Family at all, in fact, the focus is less on racial justice than their work on mental health.

This

I gained a lot more respect for Oprah after that interview. H and M stood up for themselves and their family against a huge organisation built from a foundation of lies, corruption, hate, power, fear, greed. They survived it against all the odds. They are two of the bravest people in our world, Harry amazes me with the strength he has just like his beloved mother 😊

Must admit to losing respect for Oprah after the interview.
Maybe O regrets it?

@lapisamethyst

Why would Oprah regret it, that is her job as a TV host. She's definitely moderated more controversial shows than that.

@CathyorClaire

Why would you be so quick to disregard Oprah's amazing achievements, based on an interview she did with Harry and Meghan.

That is Oprah's job. She's a TV host. She, unlike many here, is not there to decide who to interview based on their character.

Sagharbor · 04/10/2023 22:21

7Worfs · 02/07/2023 08:34

H&M have the Midas touch in reverse (Sadim touch?) - everything/everyone they touch turns to shit.
That’s why you don’t see them in A-list, and increasingly, in B-list, circles.

As if Jeff Bezos and Tyler Perry are B-listers.

Why do you so wish for people that you do not know to fail?

Last I saw, they appear to be doing very well in Hollywood.

Sagharbor · 04/10/2023 22:24

LadyBird1973 · 02/07/2023 09:26

I used to have a lot of respect for Oprah, but less so after that interview - it really wasn't very robust at all and it reflects badly on her now.
I think she's distanced herself - H & M have thrown away the only thing that made them valuable to A list celebrities ( their connections with the RF ).
In saying and doing little publicly, the RF come out of the whole mess looking classy, while H&M really don't.

Again, why would you base your opinions about someone based on a job they were performing?

Oprah is a TV host. She interviews people. She's interviewed even Ku Klux Klan members.

Did you change your mind about her then?

Sagharbor · 04/10/2023 22:31

Highandlows · 02/07/2023 12:52

Oprah lost many fans after the interview. She is old enough to know the game very well. She knows better. However, it seems that Meghan leaves a path of destruction on her way. Meghan fooled many people and whoever did not buy into her fake mess was exposed and vilified. What a gem 💎

Anyone who only changed her mind about Oprah after her interview with Harry and Meghan is quite hypocritical.

As a host of one of the most successful talk shows ever, Oprah has interviewed some interesting characters, the Ku Klux Klan included.

Did you at the time change your views on Oprah? or did this happen only after she interviewed Harry and Meghan??

ALittleTeawithmilk · 05/10/2023 03:45

There is some common story telling on the internet and in tabloid media, that every famous person that interacts with Harry and Meghan, either personally or professionally, don’t like them, or end up regretting doing so, or are just general arseholes. In an effort to discredit H&M, some people need to discredit anyone H&M deal with - no matter what good things those people have done in life, and no matter how successful they’ve been career wise or wealth wise.

This, despite the positive things that H&M are doing. And despite the fact that the many images available in all the tabloids, and on the internet, indicate they are well liked and welcome in the circles in which they work and live.

LadyBird1973 · 05/10/2023 08:37

@Sagharbor I don't care who Oprah interviews, but I would expect her to actually interview them - you know, to ask questions that challenge the interviewees.
The 'interview' she did with H&M wasn't robust at all and was unworthy of her skills. Literally anyone could have done it.

LadyMuckingabout · 05/10/2023 09:58

I don’t think Oprah is “friends” with them in the way that we ordinaries understand friendship. It is transactional. When you are a celebrity, nay, ultra-famous like M&H you can’t be friends with many people because trust goes out of the window. You can get along with people you meet or work with, but your guard must be up.

In fact I suspect Oprah may be wary of M&H: if they dished the dirt on others then it’s no stretch to realise that if there’s a falling out they’ll do the same to her.

I doubt she would regret it

But it's not a career high point for her, as it's now better known for all the points she did not bottom out properly than for being accurately incisive

CathyorClaire · 05/10/2023 20:58

Because I watched both that rather cosy love-in and compared it with Emily Maitlis's masterful dismantling of Andrew. The two don't come close.

MissElinorDashwood · 05/10/2023 21:20

To be honest I don’t actually remember the Oprah interview., it was so long ago.

However, I think there’s a difference between a couple that left working for the Royal family and moved to the US, and Prince Andrew and his friendship with a convicted sex trafficker as well as the sexual assault allegations from Virginia Giuffre.

I can’t think why Oprah would feel the need to masterfully dismantle them. I would expect the tone and interview style to be completely different between the two.

🤷🏻‍♀️

MissElinorDashwood · 05/10/2023 21:23

That Maitlis interview though 👌🏼
