Are they considered close friends? And Gayle, Oprah's bestie, is she still on side H&M...she appears to have gone quiet.
Or has the now known lies from their Oprah interview changed their friendship I wonder?
It all seemed so pally but did it stand the test of time?

Because its their wedding they can invite whomever they like. 🙄 why does it matter to you if they are friends with the Clooneys or not?

What you wrote contradicts what Meghan said in her documentaty, that the palace dictated who Meghan could and couldn't invite, hence the reason why she wasn't able to invite her niece (who she was supposedly close to) to her wedding.

I don’t think they were ever friends. Oprah had been schmoozing them for a long long time. She’s a snake.

Oprah is not a snake, she's actually quite an amazing person. Do you know anything about her or her charities?

FloofCloud · 02/07/2023 06:53

There were certainly people they didn't know. MM's acting career was very low in the grand scheme of telly in America so she wouldn't have been known by huge Hollywood stars ... I guess inviting them to a royal wedding would help elevate her with those circles.
I think such occasions are very much based around inviting the 'right crowd' so your actual friends and family (not that any of MMS went) are quite limited

But this is her quote: How do we explain that this half-sister isn't invited to the wedding, but that the half-sister's daughter is?” Meghan asked. “And so with Ashleigh, the guidance at the time was to not have her come to our wedding.”

It didn't say the Palace dictated it said it gave her guidance.

Again who the fucks cares about who is invited. Who cares if they are friends with Clooney, Oprah etc. Why the hell does it even matter really...it doesn't. Just picking apart people for every minuscule thing.

It's difficult to know, but a lot of friendships in Hollywood are transactional. You will sometimes see a celeb 'close friend' defending another and it's because they share the same agent, rather than a close bond. It's a strange world, and I don't envy anyone living in it.

Transactional friendships Sad

7Worfs · 02/07/2023 08:34

H&M have the Midas touch in reverse (Sadim touch?) - everything/everyone they touch turns to shit.
That’s why you don’t see them in A-list, and increasingly, in B-list, circles.

Hopingforagreatescape · 02/07/2023 08:45

My respect for Oprah also dropped a notch after that interview, and Harry's volte face regarding the insinuations of racism that he then told Tom Bradby two years later had not been made by him/Meghan/Oprah, but merely by the press. She participated in a mud-slinging exercise and if she's not friends with them, then presumably her participation was driven by money and/or fame.

That was a vile remark from that poster.

Oprah is very much qualified and experienced. I have noticed that especially in the US, black celebrities in particular stand up for each other, as they know they are under more scrutiny and pressure. So they try to support each other like Tyler Perry, Oprah, Beyonce and others. They show solidarity and uplifting of the community , and some on here just view it as opportunistic - which I don't think is the case .

She is a super close friend of Harvey Weinstein - well he’s in prison now for his many sex crimes, so hopefully not any more - so I beg to differ on that opinion.

Helendegenerate · 02/07/2023 09:01

I found it interesting that one of the little bridesmaids at their wedding was the daughter of Robbie Williams. Just wondered how that came about but I didn't lose any sleep over it.

The A-listers were invited out of the blue, with no prior introductions. I think George & Amal said so in an interview years ago.

Scoobydoobywho · 02/07/2023 09:15

Didn't Reese Witherspoon get an invite to the wedding. She said why would she go to a wedding of people she had never met, or words to that affect.

They were not 'super close friends'. She knew him like other moguls knew him. The difference is that he had no agency over Oprah. He could not threaten to fire her nor was she the young up and coming actresses he would take advantage of like Gwyneth and others.

So many knew him and worked with him in Hollywood, no one ever calls, say Colin Firth/Meryl Streep (she once called him a god) and others a snake. Funny that .

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 16 additional years in prison for rape and criminal sexual assault. Here's how the disgraced producer built the Hollywood empire that ended up firing him.

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Thursday, which will be served in addition to a 23-year term he received in 2020.

Bojo' sister coming up with a rumour, does not make it so.

The same rags had to print the denial.

I used to have a lot of respect for Oprah, but less so after that interview - it really wasn't very robust at all and it reflects badly on her now.
I think she's distanced herself - H & M have thrown away the only thing that made them valuable to A list celebrities ( their connections with the RF ).
In saying and doing little publicly, the RF come out of the whole mess looking classy, while H&M really don't.

Is this a twist on how Reese wanted an invite for a royal wedding (I think K&W) a long time ago, or some confusion?

A link would be nice.

Who knows, I do think work friends in general friends for anyone are often different things. I was disappointed by the Oprah interview as I stupidly thought it would be H&M talking about their future aspirations and perhaps how they met etc instead of what they made it about and the fact lots turned out to be lies. Unless O knew these were lies (doubtful) I suspect any working relationship has melted away as it made her look unprofessional really.

MarcelProust · 02/07/2023 09:43

It was made clear that interview was there to clarify why they left and what took place in that process as there were so many stories.

Sugarplumfury · 02/07/2023 09:44

Justleaveitblankthen. I didn’t know it was Amal Clooney who said that . In that case she’s starting to pick up her husband’s style of faux unpleasant remarks, or it’s true and they don’t know H&M.

Looks like a pretty good friend here, no? She produced ivies with him too - they were not mere acquaintances. There’s some direct allegations from an actresses he abused that the fact that when she met him he and Oprah were so close to watch other that she felt he must be trustworthy. And Harvey initially said Oprah had been in touch to offer support to him (which she denied, but she would, wouldn’t she).

Let’s not badmouth Oprah. She’s a phenomenally successful woman who came from very poor circumstances and had tragic things happen to her as a girl. She is smart and has a great sense of humour and does a lot of very good things for people. And she credits her 4th grade teacher for encouraging her to believe in herself.

Serenster · 02/07/2023 10:09

She’s a human being who has demonstrated poor judgment as well as excellent business skills. I don’t see why she deserves a hagiographic approach. Plenty of people do both good things and bad, and get excoriated for the bad (on these very boards too!).

Morestrangerthings · 02/07/2023 10:09

Anything to discredit Meghan. I’ve noticed that people will to great lengths to discredit anyone who has anything to do with Meghan.

Oprah WAS a friend of Weinstein as were many others who were influenced by him
She has spoken out many times, spoken to his victims and condemned what he did. If you choose not to believe her then that's your choice.
Compare and contrast with:

Charles who was a close friend of a paedophile, Peter Ball and wrote defending him after Ball had received a police caution. This is what he wrote to Ball ' I wish I could do.more. I feel so desperately strongly about the monstrous wrongs that have been done to you and the way you have been treated ' He even bought him a house to live in. The report into Ball's, Bishop of Gloucester, despicable behaviour found that Charles's behaviour could have been interpreted as trying to lobby in Ball's favour. Well knock me down with a feather.

Andrew continued his friendship with Epstein after concerns had been raised about him.

Charles friendship and actions with Ball as with JimmyS is rarely mentioned and even more rarely discussed. Why would that be.?

Oh but Oprah.

Serenster · 02/07/2023 10:16

Thanks unbelievable22, you’ve just proved my point exactly 😀
