Are they considered close friends? And Gayle, Oprah's bestie, is she still on side H&M...she appears to have gone quiet.
Or has the now known lies from their Oprah interview changed their friendship I wonder?
It all seemed so pally but did it stand the test of time?

I watched Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail with dc’s in advance of the new film. Sean Connery had such a twinkle in his eye in that film.

Roussette · 12/07/2023 18:15

I love Indiana Jones, all of them, even the ones that weren't that good! If I feel ill and need to lie on the sofa, I put on one of them!

But not Sean Connery. Who said 'women deserve a good slap. That's what they're looking for, they want a good smack' And stood by his opinion 20 years later 🤮

I agree. Awful man. My mum loved him. 🤦 Even when I told her what he'd said and done, she just shrugged. Him and Robert Mitchum, her other crush, with his own issues too.
I reckon it was her wild fantasy side coming out from being with my dad who was the gentlest, straightest, most honourable man born.

Samcro · 12/07/2023 18:55

My mum’s favorite was rock Hudson, he had a popular tv show, can’t remember what it was called.
i had a crush on the dark haired guy in alias smith and jones. He died in a shooting accident I think, name like Pete duel

Oh yes.

And every last one of Back To The Future.

DS shocked me to the core when he said he'd never seen even one.

The kid is not my son 😏

Agree on Sean Connery too.

Vile thing.

CathyorClaire · 12/07/2023 21:06

The appeal passed me by but I can never see this without thinking of 'Alas Smith And Jones' with Griff and Rhys who made their names (among others) with the sublime Not The Nine O'Clock News.

Good times.

Are you perhaps mixing Rock Hudson with Richard Chamberlain, who was in Dr Kildare? Lots of mums of people of our generation fancied him. He went onto do the Thorn Birds in the 80s which IIRC was very racey!!

CathyorClaire · 12/07/2023 21:12

Griff and Rhys

Huh.

Mel Smith (RIP) and Griff Rhys Jones ofc.

Rock Hudson was in "McMillan and Wife": could that have been what your mother saw, Samcro?

Gosh, those husband and wife combos. Hart to Hart anyone?

LaMarschallin · 12/07/2023 22:21

This is my boss - Jonathan Hart.
He's a self-made millionaire.
This is his wife, Jennifer - she's gorgeous ("goy-jus").
I'm Max - I take care of 'em both. Which ain't easy, coz when they met - it was murder! ("moy-duuh!").

LaMarschallin · 12/07/2023 22:22

No, don't think I've seen that...🤔

I loved MacMillan and Wife. And the maid in it was brilliant. She used to appear in lots of the Doris Day movies with Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, etc.

Ben Murphy and Pete Duel. I'm pretty sure he committed suicide. His girlfriend said that he suffered from very bad depression. He got replace but the new guy was never as good. Oh, that sounds a bit heartless. Sorry.

No, not heartless, just how it was. I hated Westerns, but I loved that series. I wonder if it would stand the test of time or seem very dated? I always think I’d enjoy seeing some of those old series again but in reality the picture quality would almost certainly be unwatchable.

Howsimplywonderful · 12/07/2023 23:53

Many 80’s shows have aged really badly due to complete misogyny but Jonathan Hart treated his wife as an equal rather than an accessory which was the usual for the times

I loved Max and Freeway.

I had a friend whose surname was Power, she wanted to change it to Powers as we loved Stephanie Powers (Jennifer hart)

Ohpleeeease · 13/07/2023 07:41

Thinking about it, tv was all very much aimed at women viewers. Men got Dave Allen and Pot Black.

no it was Rock. my mum died when I was a teen, so wasn't there in the 80's
I do remember the thorn birds though.

The US shows all had a degree of glamour about them. Our UK equivalent offerings were a bit toe curlingly budget by comparison. Yes, Howard’s Way, I do mean you.

LaMarschallin · 13/07/2023 08:52

And "Triangle" - glamour, sex, intrigue!!

LadyMuckingabout · 13/07/2023 09:02

Hart to Hart 😁 - the pantsuits ! Of both of them! America seemed so glamorous in those days. Big cars, big hair, big houses…

Howsimplywonderful · 13/07/2023 09:04

Does anyone remember cover up.

It has Bobbie Tyler’s ‘holding out for a hero as the theme song’ and the male star shot himself by accident while filming and died.

Here is the blurb
Dani Reynolds is photographer. Her life changes after her husband dies. She learned that he was the mild mannered man he said he was but was in reality a government agent. When she found out that he was murdered, she recruited a former Vietnam Vet Mac Harper to help her find her husbands killers. After doing that, Henry Towner, her husband's boss, offered her her husband's job. Basically, she would continue being a photographer and Mac was one of her models. And Henry would send them anywhere in the world where there are Americans in trouble or criminals that need to be apprehended or enemies of the U.S. that had to be stopped, and they acted pretty much on their own. When Jon-Erik Hexum who played Mac died, Jack Striker joined the show as an actual agent who joined Dani's team as the new model.

Used to love this. I thought I was the only person left who remembers it 😁

Kate O'Mara on a freezing foredeck in a bikini trying to stop her towel being whipped away by a howling North Easterly gale. The glamour never ended 😁
