Are they considered close friends? And Gayle, Oprah's bestie, is she still on side H&M...she appears to have gone quiet.
Or has the now known lies from their Oprah interview changed their friendship I wonder?
It all seemed so pally but did it stand the test of time?

tbh I don't know where you would feel at home. or be satisfied with the people in power

Do we not all have an obligation not to be satisfied with the people in power?

Are you satisfied with Tory government in the UK, for instance?

Do you not believe that the people of the UK deserve better

Milcar · 08/07/2023 22:38

They would be the first to criticise if someone white told a POC what they should/should not find significant. So it's a bit odd they are criticising someone Scottish for having an opinion about a Scottish ceremony

I didn't vote for this government, and fundementally disagree with many of their policies. However, they were democratically elected, and I defend their right to pursue their policies, subject to judicial review

Milcar · 08/07/2023 22:43

That's the basis of democracy, after all.

Milcar · 08/07/2023 22:45

Maybe @MrsMaxDeWinter is not a supporter of democracy?

What a shame Suits didn't have any qualified female lawyers as aspirational characters

I thought Rachel was a paralegal that became an attorney? I haven’t watched it but intend to now. My mom was a huge fan and was delighted that MM was marrying Harry.

Milcar · 08/07/2023 22:56

I went by Google, and am happy to be corrected?!

Still curious about @MrsMaxDeWinter 's view of democracy...?

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/07/2023 22:57

@Milcar

I did not criticise a Scottish person for having a view about a Scottish event.

I am also not sure what I have said that means you question whether I support democracy. I fear the thread will get to a place of further ad hominem comments not related to the topic of the thread, and so I take my leave, and wish you all a good night.

I find the corruption index an interesting read

In the ranking of least corrupt countries the U.K. scores a very respectable 18 out of 170.

Tigger1895 · 08/07/2023 23:00

Why not just start the conversation with “I don’t like M&H”? It’s become a blood sport now and apparently acceptable

Milcar · 08/07/2023 23:05

Well, I'll leave it to readers to decide @MrsMaxDeWinter

With the very greatest of respect to you both, I am not compelled to enjoy something just because you did, or because it is Scottish or English for that matter. The world has moved on from the time when something being Scottish or English made it an inherently superior thing that we "inferior" people of the "darker races" were obliged to find spellbinding and lap up.

I found it as dull as the Coronation borefest in May, not least because the two people at the centre of it are, in my opinion, bland, dull and completely free of charisma.

You enjoyed it, good for you. I found it an interminable yawnfest.

It's called having different tastes.

Thank you.

Interesting because the royals who were clearly bored by the yawnfest sermon by the Episcopalian bishop at H and M’s wedding have been branded rude or even racist all over social media and here on MN.

Mylovelygreendress · 08/07/2023 22:02

Your exact words were “ darker races “. Why bring skin colour into it ? Yes, I am Scottish but you have no idea about my background or skin colour .
Your latest response is patronising.

Completely histrionic response. Wtaf? So no other ethnic or racial group are allowed to raise concerns or feel offended?

I actually only read it today in the Vanity Fair article someone posted or I wouldn’t have known. But here it is:

Rachel Zane

Rachel Elizabeth Zane, J.D. is an attorney and former associate and paralegal at Specter Litt, the daughter of Robert Zane and the wife of Mike Ross. Rachel grew up under the shadow of her father, Robert Zane, a skilled lawyer and name partner of Rand,...

It's obvious that the children would be light skin in most instances so why say something like that is beyond me.

Im no scientists, but am not sure that’s how genetics work .

@LaMarschallin

If it's not clear to you, no biggie. It's really all speculation at this point, aided by some pretty obvious breadcrumbs, at least they are obvious to me, but they may not be to you or others.

It will all come out soon enough.

It isn’t clear to me either. Just who was it? And can something be pretty obvious whilst also being speculation?

I'm not that keen over what the Tories are doing but Sunak's race has nothing to do it. So I wouldn't bring the colour of my skin or his into the criticism.
If you wanted to bore yourself to death watching the Scottish coronation, that's your privilege. But I don't understand why you're trying to make it into a racial issue.

upinaballoon · 09/07/2023 06:44

I didn't think being Scottish was a racial thing. I think it's about nationality. Having written that, it reminds me that I think Jackie Kay has a lovely voice. No, I don't think she was in 'Suits'.

Ohpleeeease · 09/07/2023 08:16

My experience from years on these RF threads is that some posters are here purely to shoehorn race into the discussion because that’s their hobby horse. It never goes well, best to scroll on and not engage.

I spent some idle minutes yesterday evening rereading some of the RF threads from a few years ago, including my own contributions, and those of regulars here. The tone was completely different, so much more friendly, people were able to express different views from both sides without being sneered at or shouted down. I honestly don’t know what’s happened to everyone.

Please don't worry about it.

It comes with the territory.

curious here. isn't saying "shoehorn race " up there with "race card" and not a good thing to say?

It was @MrsMaxDeWinter who brought skin colour into the discussion and has failed to explain why she talked about “ darker races” in the context of posts about the Scottish coronation.
It was irrelevant and inappropriate.

No it isn’t, @Samcro, stop trying to stir.

it was a question, simple as that. its not something I know about so asked.
